Summary
The more Arthur tried to learn the art of ruling from his father, the more bitterness and cruelty he inherited as well. Together, the Pendragon men created an arena where those accused of sorcery, once fed a potion that strips them of their abilities, fight to the death for the promise of freedom in a life of exile. When an unknown issue allows one of the imprisoned fighters to attack Arthur with magic, Merlin had no choice but to intervene with his own magic, effectively outing him as a sorcerer to all of those present, including Uther and Arthur Pendragon themselves. True to the private words of Kilgarrah, Balinor, and Gaius, the potion is unable to fully strip Merlin of his power, but he is sent into the arena anyway, afraid to let anyone else escape with hopes of revenge, and heartbroken to betray his own people through the magic they share.
