Chapter Text
Karkat has been fired roughly twelve times in the past year and a half, so far, he’s been working at 7/11 for a week.
He feels miserable waiting for Sollux to come in (he’s Karkat’s favorite least favorite customer).
The bell chimes and he smiles without thought, hell yes.
But it’s not Sollux. It’s a girl in a Chick-fil-A uniform that looks more miserable than Karkat does.
She wanders around and then walks up to the counter, placing a monster and some mint gum.
She was texting someone, and her phone case was bright blue like her nails and eyeshadow. Her hair was dyed midnight blue, and even her lipstick was blue.
Way too blue.
“That’ll be ten dollars,” He muttered.
“Hm? Oh yeah, here you go, keep the change,” She hummed, smirking as handed him three five-dollar bills.
“Okay, thank you ma’am, would you like to join our-”
“Oh no thank you, but if you round up for a charity go for it,” She interrupted, eyes glued to the floor.
“Okay, have a nice day ma’am,”
“Vriska,”
“Hm?”
“It’s my name, cutie,” She said smiling,
“Okay, uhm, have a nice day… Vriska,”
She nodded and walked out with her stuff.
‘What a weird fucking bitch!’ He thinks, shaking his head.
A good couple of hours later and he was close to having to work overtime, the girl who works the night shift (Terezi Pyrope) was nowhere to be found.
His phone buzzed, it was the staff group chat.
Terezi 「9:53PM」
Oh my gog 1m so sorry, 1m gonn4 b3 l4t3
My boyfr13nd’s c4r wouldn’t st4rt so 1 h4d to g3t 4 r1d3 from on3 of my fri3nds
Kanaya 「9:54PM」
Don’t Worry, Your Pay Won’t Be Docked. Also, Karkat, You’ll Get Some Overtime For This, I’m So Sorry!
Karkat 「9:54PM」
IT'S WHATEVER.
Karkat pockets his phone and perks up at the sound of the chime.
“Hey, Kitty!” Terezi greets, smiling and holding a hand out.
He sighs and shakes it, flushing, “I thought I asked you to stop calling me pet names,”
“Right, sorry, Karkat,” She hums, giving a softer smile than normal.
He sighs and walks to the front of the counter, “See you, I guess,”
“Of course,” Terezi exclaims.
So Karkat sat on the curb waiting for Kankri to pick him up.
About ten maybe fifteen minutes later and there his older brother (and also legal guardian) shows up. His red car is beat up but still nice, Kankri has stickers on the windows; mostly cats but there’s also a few stars.
He rolls down the window and Karkat can tell his piece of garbage boyfriend is in the passenger seat.
“Hey, kiddo!” Kankri says, tired as hell.
Karkat nods and gets into the car, refusing to speak.
He’s tired, angry (when is he not?), and feeling so odd.
Karkat 「10:00PM」
SOLLUX
HELP
Sollux「10:00PM」
What diid you do, KK?
Karkat 「10:02PM」
NOTHING.
I JUST AM VERY UPSET.
Sollux 「10:02PM」
What2 up then?
Karkat 「10:03PM」
YOU HATE KANKRIS BF TOO RIGHT?
Sollux「10:03PM」
Yeah, Cronu2 ii2 a douche
What about iit?
Karkat 「10:04PM」
I DON’T KNOW. BYE FOR NOW,
Cronus and Kankri are talking about something and Karkat feels terrible.
“Hey, Kat, how’re you doin’?” Cronus asks, suddenly.
“Huh?”
“Huh?” Cronus mimics, rolling his eyes.
“カンクリ、かれしにわたしをはなしておいてといってください!” Karkat hisses, hugging himself tight and biting his hand.
Kankri sighs, “Cronus, please play nice,”
“Man, okay, I was just teasin’.” He says it all smooth and sweet.
Karkat wants to puke.
Maybe his buddy TG is having a better day.

“I am going to full blown dive off of a cliff into a pile of sharks, June,” Dave shrieks, tugging on his frizzy ass hair.
“What?” June asks, looking up from her computer monitor. She just got off of her shift and now she’s trying to play some Overwatch.
“First my fucking car up and broke down so because of my stupid bitch ass Terezi was late-”
“It’s not your fault that-”
“No, no, shut up, I- Oh my god, and then I keep getting those weird spam calls,”
Dave’s crisis is interrupted when his phone goes off, “Hang on, sorry Juney,” He sighs.
“Don’t sweat it,” she mumbles.
He checks the notifications, it's PesterChum.

Dave groans and rolls his neck, it’s like twelve AM.
“Go to bed, Dave,” June calls, not tearing her eyes off her computer screen.
Dave groans again, louder.
“Serious!”
“Fine!”
Dave goes into his and June’s shared room, flinging himself onto the bed.
He wonders how Rose is doing right now…
-----------> Be Rose
Rose is exhausted, she’s just about to shut off the lights when she notices a customer is still inside, she sighs and walks over to the stranger.
“Hello, ma’am. Are you aware of the fact that this establishment is in fact- closed?” Rose asks, smiling wide and sharp.
The black haired girl does a double take, “Oh my heavens, I’m so sorry-” She starts, dropping the ribbon spool she was holding. She was wearing a 7/11 uniform and had dark green lipstick.
Rose softens, “It’s alright,”
“I’m so sorry, “
“Stop apologizing.” She says sharply, picking up the spool of ribbon.
“Okay, um I-”
“Just take it, I’m too tired to ring it up right now,” Rose huffs, crossing out the barcode with a sharpie and handing it to the girl.
“Th-thank you, um-”
“Rose. You’re welcome…”
“Kanaya,”
Rose nods, Kanaya smiles.
And then Kanaya’s phone rang, she flushes.
“I’m so sorry, I just need to take this really quick,” She laughs awkwardly, walking to the front of the store.
Rose unlocks the door and they both step out.
“Kat, what is it! I told you I’m busy,” she whisper-screams, flushing.
She sighs and tugs on her curls, it begins to rain.
Eventually she hangs up (and pretends not to notice Rose lingering).
“Need a ride home?” Kanaya asks, looking at the ground.
“At least buy me a drink first,” Rose teases, smiling wickedly, “My idiot brother should be here soon,”
Kanaya nods.
[ ectoBioligist 「EB」 began pestering tentacleTherapist 「TT」]
「EB」daves car broke down :B
「TT」What?
「EB」yeah :B sorry
「TT」June. I’m going to get a ride home from a stranger in 5 seconds if you don’t get Jade or Dirk to pick me up, I’m not joking.
「EB」wait no no dont get in a creepy dudes car
「TT」She’s an airhead 7/11 manager.
「EB」oooo is she cute?
「TT」die.
「EB」 so yes? Omg r you gonna marry her?
「TT」 I hate you. I’m going to get in her car and she’s going to kill me.
「EB」ooooooooooooo romantic!!!
“I actually do need a ride,”
“Oh, I’d love to- um- I mean… yeah!”
Rose stares at her, confused.
Kanaya just pulls out her keys and walks over to her car, Rose following.
“So, you work at 7/11?”
“Yeah, I’m a GM,”
“Cool,”
Kanaya nods, flushing. She opens the door of her green station wagon for Rose.
“My, what a lady. Thank you,” She hums, getting in. She held the pocket knife tight, concealed in her pocket.
She wouldn’t take any chances (though she didn’t exactly find Kanaya threatening).
“Is working at Joanne’s fun?” Kanaya asks, starting the car.
Rose looks up, startled.
“I suppose so,”
Kanaya nods.
“So uh, what’s your address?” She asks sheepishly, tucking a dark curl behind her ear.
“127 Seer Ave.” Rose replies blankly.
She wonders how June is doing.
-----------> Be June
“Fuck! We are getting our asses kicked,” June’s online friend, AG, hisses.
June laughs, “Yeah we are,”
She rolls her neck, “It’s getting late,”
“Yeah… are you calling it a night?” AG asks with disappointment lingering.
“I think so, sorry,” June says softly,
“Okay, goodnight then… see you?”
“Yeah, see you!”
June hangs up and takes off her headphones, sighing. Her ears were ringing slightly and she had a killer headache.
She got out of her chair and stumbled into her and Dave’s bedroom, “You awake?” She whispered.
No response.
Satisfied, she climbed into her bed. She has a twin-sized mattress and a shitty frame but it was better than the death trap Dave sleeps on.
It’s a twin-size also (no sheets though,) and he doesn’t have a bedframe.
Dave always was like that though, trying to avoid spending any of his money on himself. He’d go out of his way to avoid it; hell he doesn’t accept gifts from people until a good amount of wearing down!
It’s really frustrating.
June sighs and tries to put her thoughts to rest.
It’s dark outside, it’s bedtime!
