Chapter Text
INT. S.T.A.R. LABS - NIGHT, TWO YEARS LATER
A very caffeinated SUNNY JACKSON is working late in the lab. Metal music is playing.
She’s wearing her lab coat over a dirt-brown button up shirt.
Twice the back of a hand rubs at her tired eyes.
FLASHING:
EXT. 1951 TOKYO - DAY, AT THE SAME TIME
We only see her torso, a leather bound book clutched against her chest as she’s running down a street.
The Metal music is still in the background but dulled down. Equally dull are the sounds of her heavy breathing, almost like in slow motion.
INT. S.T.A.R. LABS - NIGHT
Over SUNNY’s shoulder her computer comes into view. The ping of a message arriving, audible just so over the loud music.
A pop-up shows the picture of her father JAX’ and next to it: “Hey Sunshine! When are you coming home today?”
FLASHING:
EXT. 1951 TOKYO - DAY
She is still running, now away from us. She throws a glance over her shoulder and through wild blonde strands - some dishwater blonde, some bleached - we see in a close-up: It’s INDIGO LANCE.
INT. S.T.A.R. LABS - NIGHT
SUNNY doesn’t even open the messenger app but types into the small pop-up window: “I’m sleeping at the lab”
Zooming in on the time displayed on the computer. It’s way past midnight.
CUT:
A very simple bunk bed, maybe two arm lengths from SUNNY’s workspace.
She falls onto it, still fully clothed, still music blasting in the background.
FADE OUT:
EXT. 1951 TOKYO - DAY
The book falls onto a dusty road.
Something between a gasp and a yelp escapes an unseen INDIGO.
Then: silence.
INT. WAVERIDER - MORNING
On a more solid, firmly built into the room, bed SUNNY is sprawled out, suddenly dressed in a baggy graphic tee that she apparently uses as a sleep shirt.
She stretches in her sleep, sighs with satisfaction at the crack of her limbs. Then she turns on her side and almost collides with the cold metal wall - which wakes her.
SUNNY bolts up, frantically looking around the - her! - room on the Waverider.
Close-up of her fist balling on the bed, crumpling up the sheets.
