Despite how much Phil represses it, he knew that there were still some of Phil’s avian instincts that snuck up one in a while but it wasn’t ever usually something super big. Once in a while Techno might find Phil awake at the crack of dawn perched on the bridge connecting their two houses and chirping some morning song like an actual bird or enthusiastically showing Techno random shiny objects that he found outside.
But the main and biggest thing that Phil does is make himself a nest rather than an actual bed. Techno only found out about this when he went over to Phil’s house one time shortly after he had finished building it.
A soft knock against the oak door is all Techno gives before gently opening it and peeking his head in. His house already looked pretty good and put together, and with the fireplace going warming up the place it definitely had a cozy feel to it. “Are you in here, Phil?” The Piglin hybrid calls out curiously.
“Up here!” His friend’s voice called down from the attic so Techno goes all the way in, taking off his wet snowy boots and leaving them by the front door before heading up the ladder. He knew how much Phil didn’t like people wearing shoes in his house.
Reaching the top of the ladder he pushes the spruce trapdoor open and climbs the rest of the way up before standing there in slight shock to see a giant circular looking nest made from a bunch of fluffy and soft pillows, blankets and duvets with a dark green bed canopy draping over all of it with small emeralds in it giving it a glittering effect.
It was a nest.
“Wow. This is certainly not what I was expecting.” Techno comments which gets Phil to stop his working for a moment and turn to him with a smile. “Well this is a LOT more comfy than a bed and it doesn’t cramp or hurt my wings!” Phil explains the use of it before going back to arranging the contents of the nest which Techno found pretty entertaining and endearing.
He could even see a few things of his own scattered around in the nest like some of his shirts and items he knows that he has already given up trying to get back. But it also had a few photographs of him and his son Wilbur scattered around too which made sense but still made the pink haired man feel bad for his friend.
After that day, Techno never questioned it once. So he forgot about it for a while as everything was just peaceful.
But then Wilbur was revived.
And everything had changed.
Ever since finding out that Wilbur was revived Phil hadn’t been getting any sleep, that much was evident in the deep bags that Techno would find under his eyes and sluggish movements. Techno even had to help him care for himself sometimes such as preening his wings or getting him to eat and drink something because there were some days where Phil just completely forgot or neglected to. But Techno knew that Phil was a grown up and he could handle himself, so he wasn't going to push him on the subject because he knows that Wilbur is a touchy subject for him.
But the man knew he had to step in when one day Phil collapsed from Exhaustion while the two of them were in the bee enclosure. Techno was just shearing and bottling up the honey from the hives when he looks over to one of the other homemade hives just in time to watch Phil's knees buckle under him and fall down to the grass and flowers below. "Phil!!" Techno shouts as he runs over and kneels down to the winged man, relieved to see that he was fine and just passed out. He scoops the smaller man up and rushes back to his own house and lays Phil in his nest. He figured he would let Phil rest because he desperately needs it.
He quickly heads back down and rummages through Phil's kitchen for a minute to gather some food and a bottle of water for when he wakes up and heads back up to the attic, quietly heading over to the side of his nest and placing the stuff down. He takes one last look over Phil and his nest to see that some new things had been added-things that had belonged to Wilbur.
Techno sighs quietly and is about to get back up when a hand quickly clutches his sleeve, grabbing his attention and he turns his head to look down at Phil who gazes back up at him. He looked so hurt and it just broke Techno's own heart to see his friend so sad.
"Please stay."
Just those two simple words are all Techno needs to lay down with Phil in his nest and stay with him, and he could see why Phil liked this so much better than a bed now! It was VERY comfy!

It was only supposed to be one day. One day in his nest.
But ever since then, at bedtime, Techno goes to Phil's house and sleeps in his nest with him.
If it makes Phil happy and gets him to sleep, then so be it.
