Work Text:
Aizawa was standing in front of the class looking exhausted as always. Class 1A was back in the USJ for more rescue training. "Alright, today's class you will be separated into groups of two one team will be those in need of rescue while the other will be the rescuers. Cementoss will be aiding us in the urban disaster zone. Points will be allocated for speed of finding the victims as well as safety of extraction. Are their any questions?" The silence coming from his class was his answer. Soon the lots were drawn to see who would be on what team and when the would be playing their part.
----------
Kyoka nodded at the screen showing her team up. She was with Midoriya, they would be first to be the rescuers and last to be the victims. Green had just walked over. "Okay, so what's the plan mop top?" She had gotten much more comfortable around the shy boy since the culture festival.
"Well pretty straight forward. You find them and then I can get them out with either black whip if they are in an area to do so or I can move any objects in the way" he stated. He had gotten a better hold on his stuttering she noted.
"Sounds good, Dude"
A few minutes later Earphone Jack stood with Deku at their starting point. When the buzzer to begin sounded she dug her jacks into the ground. Deku stayed quiet, confident that she would report when she found the victims. "Koda and Aoyama three buildings forward on the left, sounds like they are one floor below ground level", she reported to her partner.
Nodding, Deku let her get on his back and activated full cowling to get to the building quicker. Reaching the area they approached cautiously and found a hole in the ground floor. Peering in they saw Aoyama on his knees over a motionless Koda. "Hello down there, we're heroes here to rescue you" her partner called down.
"Can you tell us your condition?" She added helpfully.
"There was a tremor and the floor collapsed. I'm alright but my friend is unconscious" the blond provided.
"Possible head and neck injury" she whispered to Deku. He nodded in agreement.
"We are going to get you out then help your friend" the green haired hero said with one of his comforting smiles.
"I can't leave him." The other victim pleaded.
"We will be able to take care of him better if we know you are safe" Kyoka called down. The blonde reluctantly agreed. Deku then sent down two tendrils of black whip and gently lifted Aoyama from the hole.
"Please wait on the street where it is more stable and we will have your friend with us soon." He said. After the first victim walked outside he turned to her and said "you should comfort Aoyama while I stabilize Koda's neck. I will radio up when I'm ready." Earphone Jack nodded and went outside to comfort the first victim while Deku took some of their rescue supplies down with him into the hole. A few moments later and she was contacted. She had the blond wait where he was while she returned to the edge of the destroyed floor. Soon she saw their rocky headed classmate rise on a portable stretcher supported by half a dozen strands of black whip. He also had a a neck brace on. Taking hold of the stretcher the punk hero guided it to the floor and radioed her teammate that it was stable. Soon she was joined by her partner and they lifted the victim between them. They lead the other victim to the extraction point.
----------
"Well done you two" Aizawa stated. "Quick location of the targets decisive action while still noting the possible injuries, over all, a successful rescue."
Kyoka turned and high-fived her team mate.
"Come on Sensei, it was like the perfect team," Denki whined. " They have a sensory quirk and someone who can move a mountain!"
"It was random lots don't cry about it Charge-Dolt" the punk girl said while sticking her tongue out.
----------
The time flew by with most of the class doing a fair job in the training. Finally it was their turn to be the victims for the next group consisting of Mina and Tooru. Kyoka and Izuku met with Cementoss and the teacher lead them to the far side of the urban disaster zone.
"Alright, for this scenario you have been caught in a villain attack. A piece of rubble has toppled over you and are both unconscious." Their literature teacher explained. He then touched the ground and a large cement slab was lifted by a pillar he created. Under neath was a depression dug into the ground. "If you would please lay down in the dug out area, I will lower the slab back into place.
Kyoka gulped looking at the small space. "W-we have to lie in that tiny space?" She asked shakily.
"There will be sufficient flow of air. Is there a problem we should know about?" The concrete hero asked while appraising her.
"No I'm cool, just wondering" the rocker said, mostly convincingly.
However, her partner gently laid his hand on her shoulder and asked, "Are you sure Jirou?"
"I said I was fine Green." She stubbornly stated and laid down in the designated area. Shortly Izuku joined her leaving as much room between them as he could within the confines of the small hole. Cementoss then shrank the pillar laying the slab over them. Izuku noticed that there was a few small bits of cement that allowed for air flow and some light to trickle in. It wasn't the most spacious and he was a little uncomfortable being in such close proximity to a girl, but over all it was at least comfortable. Considering who was on the team to find them he sighed and settled in for a long wait.
Jirou for her part was not having a good time. No scratch that, she was having a horrible time. She couldn't decide whether she wanted to keep her eyes screwed shut or have them blown open looking for a way to escape. She swore she could hear he slab moving ready to crush them. It was way too hot. She pulled at the collar of her shirt. Her hands were shaking. Her heart beat was rapid. She couldn't breath. She undid her choker. She still couldn't breath. Her eyes flew open again. Oh God, she was going to die.
Suddenly her mind snapped and she was back to being a seven year old girl. She had been left alone for and hour as her parents couldn't find a baby sitter and they had an important meeting. She was usually a mature and well behaved girl so they thought it would be fine as long as she kept the doors locked. She had wandered into her parents home studio to look around. She had gone into the supply closet looking for an extra box of guitar picks to play around with the old acoustic that her parents let her practice on.
Suddenly, an amp that had been stacked next to the door had slipped and slammed the door shut. She had tried with all her slender might to get the door open but she couldn't budge it. By the time her parents had come home she was curled up in a ball sobbing. They hadn't been late but to poor little Kyoka it had felt like she had been trapped all day.
Coming back to the present she was in a full blown panic.
“Jirou”
Her eyes were blown open.
“Jirou!”
She was positive she was about to die!
“JIROU!”
Her head snapped to the side seeing the concerned look from her teammate. “Jirou you need to breath!”
“I CAN”T! GREEN I CAN'T BREATH!”
Knowing a thing or two about panic attacks Izuku new the best thing at the moment would be to distract her. However, for a moment he had no idea what to do. Then an idea came to him like a flash. He grabbed her jacks while unzipping the top of his hero uniform with the other hand. He fed the jacks into the top over his heart.
THUMP-THUMP
Jirou's eyes focused and she looked to where her jacks were currently. “Just listen to my heart and breath.” She was able to slowly get her panic under control. Closing her eyes and following Green's words. After a while she reopened her eyes and looked at her partner.
“Thank you” she replied embarrassed.
“Why didn't you tell anyone that you were claustrophobic?”
“It hadn't really ever been a problem, thought I would just power through it”
“You should say something to Aizawa-sensei after this”
“I really don't, want to” she admitted worriedly.
“Well for now just relax. We will worry about it later”
Nodding, she settled in. Listening to the continuing thump-thump of Midoriya's heart. Suddenly and without her being conscious of it, her eyelids grew heavy and closed.
Kyoka was floating in a warm sea. Just bobbing along, completely comfortable. A rhythmic thrum pulsing over her. It was oddly soothing to her often oversensitive hearing.
This had to be the most comfy she had been in quite a long time. But she was so cozy that she could really force herself to try and remember either.
“Jirou” a far away voice called to her.
She pointedly ignored it. Enjoying the warmth and thrum far too much.
“Jirou, please..”
The corners of her mouthed turned down from the gentle smile she had had. Please? Please what?
“Jirou, you have to wake up” the voice said in what she recognized as a panicked whisper.
Huh?
–
Kyoka grumbled, whoever had just woken her up from the best nap of her life better have a god excuse.
She cracked open one eye to find Green with a tomato red face...why was his face so close?
“Oh thank God you're awake.” He started, “I can here Pinky and Invisible Girl coming. I figured you didn't want to be found like this.” he finished rapidly.
It all came rushing back to her about the training. But what did he mean, like this? She looked down, oh. That's why his face was so close. In her sleep she apparently had snuggled up to him and has now wrapped around his fucking arm.
In alarm she threw herself across the small indent as far as she could “I am so fucking sorry Green” she whisper shouted.
“W-well it was better than having a panic attack. So no harm no foul.” he stated while scratching his cheek.
A short while later the other team had found them. Mina melting a strategic hole in the cement slab and Tooru hauling them out with a grumble about how Midoriya was heavier than what he looked. The pink girl had squinted at Kyoka suspiciously for a second before shrugging. In her head Kyoka thanked every entity she could think of that Ashido had not found them in the position she had woken up in. They would have never heard the end of it.
–
“An hour for that rescue is inexcusable” Aizawa stated looking at the rescue team.
“Come on, they were murder to find!” Mina complained. Tooru's gloves bobbing up in down in what seemed to be accent.
“That is precisely why we do these exercises” He replied flatly. “Go change and head back to the class. Midoriya, Jirou, hang back a moment.”
As the rest of the class went back to the locker rooms the two identified students cautiously approached there homeroom teacher.
“We monitor every team to make sure no mishaps occur. Care to tell me why you didn't inform the school about you apparent claustrophobia Jirou?” Aisawa wasted no time in breaching the subject at hand.
Jirou went stiff, “I...I didn't think it was going to be an issue. I haven't had an incident in a long time.” She replied dejectedly.
“That was irresponsible, if you had encountered a situation out in the field it could have cost you, a teammate or a civilian their lives.” The teacher pointed out sharply.
“Am...a-am I out of the Hero Course?” She asked, tears pricking at her eyes. She heard a gasp from Green.
Aizawa's eyebrows raised, “No, every hero winds up having some sort of trauma that needs to be dealt with at some time or another. The point is confronting it and overcoming it. As long as you cooperate with that, then there is no need to remove you from the course.” Jirou breathed a sigh of relief. “Midoriya, good job calming your teammate and keeping the situation under control. If you hadn't we would have been forced to stop the exercise.” Izuku simply nodded. “Jirou, I will be making you an appointment with Hound Dog. It likely won't be until the beginning of next week, considering the short notice. Will you be okay until then?”
“I'm fine. I got this!” She declared confidently.
–
She was not FINE! And she definitely didn't HAVE THIS!
It was the last school day of the week and she hadn't slept a wink since the rescue training. She was on edge and irritable. Purple bags had appeared under her blood shot eyes. She had even snapped at Momo, just because the polite girl had offered her some calming tea! She was going to have to apologize for that...after she got some sleep. Yeah, she certainly couldn't so it while she was still deprived of rest.
Just a few more nights and she would be able to see Hound Dog and finally, hopefully put this mess behind her. She tried to relax only to find her jacks leaning over to where Green sat, like some sort of traitors divining rod trying to hear his heart beat again. And wasn't THAT just another fine development. She grumbled as she tried to lock in for the rest of the day.
–
It was now Sunday evening. AND THIS WAS RIDUCULOUS! Tossing and turning in her bed, Jirou needed sleep but it was just out of reach. She exaggeratedly sprung from her bed. That's it! She needed sleep and she knew how to get it, embarrassment be damned.
She slammed her door and proceeded to stomp down the hall way. Anyone who saw her went fleeing before the might of Hurricane Jirou.
Izuku was working on touching up some of his notes, when a thunderous knocking frightened him out of his chair. Moving to open the door quickly. He was greeted by the pissed of face of one Kyoka Jirou, blood shot eyes and eye bags scowling. She forced herself into the room the faced him. Ear-jacks Poised like they were about to strike.
“Green?” She said sweetly, somehow.
“Y-yes?” Izuku wouldn't lie and say he wasn't scared right now.
A manic grin appeared on Jirous face. “I need your heart!”
...”EHHHHHHHHHH!?”
–
A few minutes and an actual explanation later.
“O-oh, that's what you meant. It's a little early for me to go to bed, but sure I can do that for you” The verdette beamed a smile at her.
“Thanks, Green. You have no idea what this means for me right now.”
Izuku laid out some extra bedding on the floor for his guest. Then they tapped one of Jirou's jacks over his heart with medical tape. If she wasn't so dog tired she would likely be blushing at him being shirtless. He certainly was.
THUMP-THUMP
Tears almost came to her eyes as a wave of relief flooded her. Kyoka quickly burrowed into the borrowed bedding. Falling asleep fast and finding herself back in the ocean. Not once wondering why she had immediately come to Green and hadn't tried the heart beat trick with one of the other girls.
Izuku stiffly got onto his bed and tried to relax into the mattress. Eventually despite the early time he managed to get to sleep.
–
In the Vestige Realm
Izuku opened his eyes to see the shit eating grins of Nana and Banjo. Deciding he didn't need this he closed his eyes again and noped out. He heard the laughter of Banjo as Nana distantly yelled “Get back here you coward and take your teasing like a man!”
–
In the morning Izuku opened his eyes. It was still dark out. He shifted and looked at his clock. Crap, it was early even for him. He should probably get up and stretch, but the soft breathing from beside him reminded him of his current roommate. Looking towards the bedding on the floor he saw Jirou's back.
He decided that he wasn't going to take her jack off his chest and make her get up yet. She needed some more rest anyway.
An hour later and his full bladder was now in control of the decision making. He tapped the fleshy part of the jack while softly calling out to Jirou.
The girl for her part had a difficult time push the heavy metaphorical blanket of sleep off of her. As she opened her eyes information came flooding back. She had just spent the night, alone with a boy her own age, unsupervised. Her blush went nuclear. Good thing her back was to the bed from her position on the floor.
'Why do I taste metal' she thought, 'Oh crap, I'm sucking on my jack! I haven't done that since I was a little girl!'
“W-What's up Green?”
“I, uh, have to go to the bathroom. I wanted to wake you up before I removed the tape”
“Oh, good call”
After removing the tape Izuku fled for the bathroom not looking back at the punk girl on his floor. Groaning she pushed herself from the bedding. That's when she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. “Damn, I slept hard” She had crust in the corners of her eyes. Her short purple hair was sicking straight up on the side she had slept on She had obviously drooled in her sleep as some still clung to her cheek. However, the bags were gone and her eyes were no longer bloodshot.
She shot herself finger guns in the mirror. “You're a looker” She snarked. Glad that Green hadn't looked back on his way out the room. 'Wait why am I glad about that?' It's not like she wanted him to think she was cute in the morning. She completely missed how her jacks wiggled happily at the intrusive thought.
Oh well, time to sneak back to her room and hopefully after seeing Hound Dog today. She can get over..whatever this is.
