Chapter Text
‘You remind me of the moon. Calming and comforting. Bright, yet not blinding. You light up the darkest of nights, outshining all the stars in the sky. You have different colours and forms, all I adore. All being beautiful. You never fail to be there, even when the blazing sun is out. Your boldness, your confidence, it amazes me. Even your dents and imperfections are gorgeous to me. I wait all day for your arrival, being full of joy when you show, and equally disappointed when you leave. You are the only light I need. If only I could tell you that..’ With a sigh, Optimus finishes writing and shuts the datapad off, hiding it away in a locked drawer.
It was another restless night for Optimus Prime, the worries of having to rebuild and lead Cybertron consuming him. It’s been over a year and a half since him and Megatron signed the peace treaty, and everything has just been utterly chaotic. Smothered with work and tormented by his personal life, the Prime can never seem to get a break. He would never let it show, but the former warlord has been the main topic of his thoughts. Optimus would never say it out loud, but he’s found himself starting to fall for Megatron all over again. And that’s why he’s found himself pouring his feelings out into a secret data pad whenever he has the time. Optimus can't bring himself to confess to Megatron. He can’t afford ruining everything they’ve built in this past year.
Sat at his desk in his personal quarters, Optimus groans. Fed up of not being able to sleep, he decides it’s best to go for a late night drive. Maybe that will help him clear his mind. Optimus stands up and makes his way out of his quarters, into the dim lit hallway of the newly built senate’s building. He tries his best to be quiet, knowing the other new leaders of Cybertron would most likely be in recharge. The Prime lightly steps his way to the elevator, having to travel down many stories to get to the ground floor. Once out of the elevator, Optimus heads for the exit of the building. The cool night air is like a slap in the face after leaving the warm tower he now calls home. He takes a moment to admire the dazzling night sky, the stars twinkling gorgeously. Optimus smiles appreciatively, utterly euphoric to be able to live on Cybertron in peace.
Finally, Optimus transforms into his alt mode upon getting onto the road. He begins to drive, already having a destination in mind. The Iaconian streets are quiet with no other drivers on them. The street lights luminate the dark road, helping Optimus find his way. Soon, he arrives at an Iaconian park, a rebuild of a park he frequently visited during his pre-war days as an archivist. He would often take Megatronus there.. Optimus is slightly taken aback from having that thought, wondering why he is suddenly remembering the old Megatron. He transforms back into his root mode before beginning to walk through the park. Optimus takes in the scenery, gazing at the flora. It’s dark and quiet, he hasn’t been able to feel such peace in conditions such as these in millions of years.
Optimus ventures off towards his favourite part of the park: a lonesome bench surrounded by some of his favourite flowers. But to his surprise, the bench is already occupied, “Megatron?” The Prime calls upon recognising the figure as his fellow senate member. Megatron’s helm snaps towards Optimus’ direction, his optics slightly widened from the unexpected encounter with his friend.
“Optimus,” The silver mech greets gently, moving over so the red and blue mech can join him on the bench. Optimus stalls for a second, looking at Megatron with a puzzled expression before silently taking a seat next to him, “Cannot recharge, old friend?” The Prime nods.
“I take it that you seem to have difficulties with recharging, as well,” Optimus understands as he gazes over at Megatron, whom he earns a hum of agreement from, “It.. has been a while,” Is all the red and blue mech says, leaving the other to ponder.
“What do you mean?” Megatron turns to face Optimus, giving him his full undivided attention.
“Since we have sat here together..,” his voice trails off as he speaks, shifting his gaze from the silver mech. The two fall into an awkward silence as they both remember the past.
Millions of years ago, in their place was a large, scuffed up gladiator from Tarn, hand-in-hand with a dainty Iaconian archivist. Megatronus and Orion Pax relished every moment with each other, as if it would be their last. In love, the two young bots were by each other’s side whenever they had the chance. The couple never thought what they had would end, until Megatronus, who changed his name to Megatron, and his Decepticon revolution went south. The former gladiator was corrupted by absolute power, and his relationship with Orion Pax diminished. Their last night together, the Decepticon leader and the archivist met at the same very spot now. Megatron was stunned to see that his little archivist looked completely different.
‘Orion.?’
‘No,’ he replied with a tone so scared and unsure, ‘Optimus, Optimus Prime..,’ The grey mech stumbled in shock, his optics and mouth wide. He stared at Orio- Optimus in bewilderment. He felt betrayed.
‘Prime?’ Megatron spat, ‘PRIME?’
‘Megatron, please-,”
‘No, save it! You became a Prime?!’ He was outraged. He thought Orion would join him and his Decepticons. But he then noticed the insignia on his chest. Autobot, ‘AND you’re an Autobot, now?! I thought you were going to join me, Orion!’
‘..I was, Megatron. I was so supportive of you, but you aren’t yourself anymore. You are going against your own word, so now my Autobots and I have to fight you and your Decepticons!’ The new Prime argued back as anger started to grow within him.
‘YOUR Autobots?!’
‘Yes, Megatron! MY Autobots!’
That night was the night they made it official that their relationship was no more. 'What about us, Orion.?’ Megatron sounded utterly crushed. Orion meant everything to him, but he betrayed him. And now he was called Optimus Prime. His sweet, little Orion Pax had been taken away from him.
‘There is no longer an ‘us’, Megatron.. I don’t even know who you are anymore,’ Optimus seemed to be equally as devastated. He loved Megatron with everything he had, but he turned into a bot he couldn’t recognise, ‘And please.. Call me Optimus Prime,’
Those were the words that sent the ex-gladiator over the edge. He was fuming. But instead of fighting back, Megatron stormed off, leaving Optimus Prime on his own in the dark.
