Work Text:
A quiet exhale is heard from besides Toya. He looks up from the mystery novel he was reading and sees an annoyed look on Akito’s face. Toya was already partially in bed as he sat swaddled by blankets. However his partner was sitting at his desk looking over their set list and other performing details. The time is 12:34 he notes as he glances at the clock by the bedside. Gingerly he takes out the bookmark on the back of the move and marks down what page he’s on before setting down the novel.
“Akito?” His voice snaps the ginger out of his own little world of overworking and music. Akito takes his headphones out. “What’s up?” Toya shuffles over on his bed, purposefully creating some opened room on the mattress. He pays the space besides him. “It’s getting late so let’s go to sleep.”
As if to further emphasize his point, Toya suddenly yawns and stretches as tears prick the corners of his eyes. Akito looks back and forth between the bed and whatever he was looking at on his phone. Finally he decides. “Give me a couple of minutes.. I just gotta finish something up.” Toya indignantly shakes his head. Both of them knew that a few minutes was probably another hour at the very least. “Akito.” This time was voice was more firm but with a slight pleasing edge to it.
A defeated sigh leaves Akito’s mouth as he turns off his phone and plugs it in to get charged. Toya openly holds his hands out as Akito walks over and tumbles into them as the two both crash down on the bed. Toya brushes some of Akito’s hair out of his face so he could kiss all over the ginger’s face. He gently hums Cinema—the first song that came to mind— as a way to try and coax Akito to sleep. At first his boyfriend attempts to struggle in embarrassment but to no avail. (Actually he really wasn’t trying all that much since both boys knew Akito was the stronger out of the two and if he really wanted to he probably would escaped Toya’s crushing hug.) Toya giggles as he sees Akito sinking furry beneath the blankets.
“Was something weighing on your mind?” He suddenly asks. Akito peaks out and shakes his head. His voice is slightly muffled. “Nah I just don’t like going to bed with unfinished work.” Well that certainly didn’t sound like a very health habit. “You need to prioritize your wellbeing first. Everything else can wait.” Further emphasizing his point, he snuggles down more into the blanket so he could be at eye level with Akito. His olive green eyes never failed to captivate him. The way they soften up whenever they’re alone, or the way they slightly squint when he’s especially groggy or tired. He wonders what Akito sees when he looks into his silver eyes? Do they see just how much Toya cherishes him? He hopes that’s what Akito sees.
“Dude I think I’m in love with you.” The statement catches him a bit off guard as he chuckles. “Akito, we’re dating.” A strangle noise of protest leaves the ginger’s throat. “I know that! I can still be in love with you. Like… a lot.” Hesitantly, Akito’s hands crawl up to hold Toya’s face. His hands are a lot warmer than he is. “Sometimes I love you so much it hurts. I don’t think I could live without you. And it’s so surreal too, the fact we’re dating.” He whispers quietly as his voice slightly cracks. “Like how could someone as perfect as you.. love me back?” Toya could tell where this conversation was going. So he cuts in. “I love you because you’ve given me so much.” Akito’s eyes widen in shock.
“There’s not a single part of you that I could hate. The way you always act so tough and protective on the outside, yet on the inside you have such a big kind heart.” Toya is leaning in even closer now and their noses are brushing. “You might not see it yourself, but in my eyes you’re perfect in every way possible. So perfect that it hurts me to hear you talk down on yourself like that.”
The distance between them is closed as their lips are sealed for a brief kiss. Toya pulls away despite wanting to just kiss until he’s completely out of breathe. “I just want you to know that no matter what, I’ll love you until the end of time itself.” Akito stares almost awestruck at him. Toya thinks there might be some tears bristling on the edge of his eyelids. “Toya—I—” Akito chokes on whatever he was going to say next as he buries his face into Toya’s chest. Toya pats Akito’s head.
“It’s alright. I know sappy words aren’t your strong suit. I already know that you love me just as much.” Akito clings onto him for a few more minutes as they both listen to the ups and downs of their breathing. Eventually Akito breaks the silence. “Toya. I love you.”
Toya feels his own breath hitch. It was just three simple words that he has heard over and over, yet it means so much every time. “I love you too Akito.”
The two boys eventually fall asleep both clinging on to each other’s warm embrace. Nothing in the world would change the love they have for on another.
