Work Text:

Monty let out a sigh, his eyes scanned over his surroundings.

He was currently in his room, and as he looked over the state of it he could safely say that he wasn't at all surprised with what he saw.

The green fluorescent lighting that was once used to decorate the space and make it appear cool and calming for the gator was now in pieces on the floor, cracked and destroyed.

The atmosphere now projected a much darker tone for the space. The only lights that remained were dim, flickering ominously as they were on the brink of going out.

That didn't surprise the gator.

The furniture and décor that used to fill the space nicely was now scattered all over. Everything in various states of ruin, like the vanity being cracked and half of the couch being torn to shreds. The number of things that weren't broken could be counted on one hand, even the walls were clawed and smashed.

It was as if some savage animal had been trapped inside the room and tried to get out through sheer violence alone.

This didn't surprise him either.

Nothing about the state of this room was surprising. Monty had been through this exact scenario plenty of times before, this wasn't new.

However, what wasn't new either but still surprises the gator every time, was the bear sitting in his lap.

Freddy was lounging comfortably in Monty's arms, his legs straddling the gator as they sat on what remained of Monty's couch while said gator lazily rubbed circles on his back.

Freddy and Monty have been dating for a year now and honestly Monty still couldn't believe the singer was with him.

And neither could everyone else. Aside from Chica and Roxy, everyone who knows about them being together have made it abundantly clear that they don't understand how that could be possible.

It's always the same thought; how on earth was the nicest, most innocent being alive, dating someone as rough and dangerous like Monty?

From the outside it appears absurd, and to an extent it is. But…

Monty's thoughts are cut off by Freddy's sudden movement. Freddy shifted in his lap slightly and adjusted his head on Monty's shoulder, somehow bringing himself closer to the gator.

"Hmm…"

Monty looked over and was met with the back of Freddy's head, "What are you thinkin' about honeypie?"

Freddy rubbed his face more into his shoulder, "You."

The gator huffed in amusement, "Oh really?"

"Mhmm, I feel so safe with you."

Monty frowned.

You shouldn't.

Nothing about him should make the bear feel safe.

He was a monster, a beast that leaves nothing but destruction in his path. How could Freddy feel safe when he's surrounded by all the damage Monty had caused? It should act as proof that he could easily tear the bear apart at any moment…

But he wouldn't, and Freddy knows that.

Despite what the gator is capable of, Freddy never has to fear if Monty would do something to him. It didn't matter the circumstance, he could be burning with absolute rage and aggression and Freddy could still safely poke and tease him if he so liked. Monty could tear the entire Pizzaplex to the ground and Freddy would be the only thing left without a single scratch…

Monty may never know why Freddy loves him, but he knows exactly why he loves Freddy.

He made him happier.

Freddy expressed nothing but pure kindness and compassion. He sees only the best in everyone, even when that means being blind to their flaws.

Monty feels both calm and exhilarated when he's with Freddy.

The fact of the matter is, Freddy made him want to be careful, more gentle. He made him want to be a better person. If not for himself, then for Freddy. Because his little singer deserved nothing but the best, and if Freddy loved some angry old gator, then by god was he gonna give him all the love in the world.

Monty leaned down to plant a kiss on Freddy's shoulder.

"I love you."

Freddy lifted himself up so he was now face to face with Monty, with a soft smile he responded. "I love you too."

The gator frowned. "No, you don't understand."

Monty moved his hands lower so they would be gripping at Freddy's waist. With a stern look he reiterates, "I LOVE you, so much."

The bear looks at him a bit surprised at first, but soon his expression changes back to a gentle smile. "And I feel the exact same way."
