Twice the Alive

Summary:

BIG SPOILERS!

Hawks doesn't kill Twice, and instead arrests him.

Work Text:

Twice got a text from Hawks. He hadn’t gotten one of those, in like, forever.

TheGoodBirdMan: Heyooo

TheGoodBirdMan:Wanna come over to the room today and talk bout the meeting coming up?

Me: YES

Me: of course not

Me: Why havent you been texting me lately?

TheGoodBirdMan: Ugh

TheGoodBirdMan: Hero stuff

TheGoodBirdMan: But I’m free now, so we can meet up :)

Me: meet you there in five

TheGoodBirdMan: Happy to hear

Twice smiled under his mask, and unlocked the door to his room. There was a real important meeting tonight, and he really needed a refresher. Everyone was gathering already, so he hoped Hawks would be really quick. He rushed down the hall, and pushed open the door to their regular meeting room.

“Hey, Buddy! How’ve you been doin-”

A hand hit him on his spine.

The last thing he felt and heard before he slipped into unconsciousness was the feeling of the hard wood floor under his cheek, Hawk’s boot on his back, and a voice. “...Bubbagaiwara taken care of. Hawks, over.”

The voice was echo-y and far away, but Twice knew it was him.

It was Hawks. The bastard.

Don’t call him that! This could be a whole misunderstanding. We’re probably gonna wake up, and it’ll all be okay.

Stop talking! If I’m stuck with you guys and unconscious, I just wanna..What was that last part about?

He’s betraying us. He was working with the heroes and you gave him all the info he needed. Great Job.

It’ll all be okay. I bet it’s-

SHUT UP. Let me. Be in peace. For ONE SECOND.

And then it stopped. All of it.

Oh. Shit.

Twice woke up.

He was in a white room, with an obvious one way glass behind him. There was one of those glasses that he’d seen so many times in jail.

On a white cot, with white blankets and a white pillow with tough foam.

In white clothes.

White, loose, clothes, to be exact.

His head felt like it was splitting open. But he also felt like he was trapped in concrete, or molasses, or-

Not the time. That bitch Hawks betrayed us. We failed. Again. By another Bird man, nonetheless.

…We’re still dreaming.

Then, the door opened. There was a man. He had black hair, and round thin-framed glasses. He was a tall and slender guy with a beige blazer and black pants. Oooh, sideburns. His eyes were a gray-ish blue, deeper than Twice’s, with mix-matched black and white pupils.

“So you’re the man of the hour, hmm? Twice, I take it? Or do you prefer Jin?” He said, holding out his palm. A camera lens appeared briefly, assaulting Twice’s eyes with a bright flash. He was dazed for a moment, but then responded. “Twice. Only my comrades can call me Jin. My enemies call me Bubbagaiwara. So you can call me that , if anything.

“You can call me Taneo. I am a reporter from Juzo news. Y’know. Here to report stuff.”

“I ain’t saying shit, if that’s what you’re asking. Happy to spill all my secrets!

“This isn’t an interrogation, Mr. Bubbagaiwara. It’s an interview .”

Twice’s breath caught in his throat. He hadn’t heard that name in forever.

Please Don’t call me Mr.Bubbagaiwara. That’s my old man. He’s dead. ” He didn’t want the please. They added that themselves. Jerks.

“..heh. Looks like I struck a nerve, huh? Well then, do tell me about your parents.” He said with a smirk. He swung a white plastic chair (that Twice had just noticed closer) and sat down on it. Twice himself tried standing up, but that sticky honey-molasses-concrete feeling forced him back down.

“Not gonna pull up a chair? Okay. Now..” Taneo took out a tape recorder. He pressed play, and placed it down on the small ledge that was between himself and Twice. “You mentioned your dad was dead, eh? What’s your family life like?”

“Are we talking about people who are related to me? Or people that care about me? ‘Cause those are completely different.

“Not a good relationship? Okay. We’ll start with blood relatives, then.”

“..Dad wasn’t there, most of the time. He was off doin’ work, leaving me and mom at home to pick up whatever mess he made.I think he had some kinda..gang or something. Mom was sure a person. Quirk that just made her lips not show. Just a mouth with teeth, obviously just married my dad to get protection. Better than my Dad, at least.”

Taneo scribbled something down, then asked. “Anybody else?”

Twice scoffed. “Don’t wanna talk about my brother.”

Taneo shifted his face. Hawks had talked about how easy it was to get Twice so spill stuff. He had planned for this. “Talk about who?”

The author of the journals, My Brother- Hey, wait! What the hell, man?! Not the time!” He said to himself.

Taneo broke out into a fit of howling laughter. “A gravity falls reference? Good Job, good job, Jin!” When he was finished, he wiped a tear from his eye. “Please, continue.”

“..My brother wasn’t around much. Wanted to be a hero, so, so bad. 11 years older than me. Got Dad’s quirk and Mom’s mutation. Clones. He could only clone himself, and 30 times at most. Dad could only make 10, and they were weak . He died in the same villain attack that my parents did. But they never found his body. Only his legs on the villain. Fuckin’ horrifying, seeing my older brother’s legs. Couldn’t even pay respects to his grave, man.

Taneo scribbled another thing down, then asked a question. “Never found his body? What if he was still alive? What’s his name?”

Can’t fucking remember, man. It was.. uh.. Ekutopurazumu, I think.” He mutters, putting a hand to his forehead scar.

Taneo flinches slightly, but quickly regains his composure. He makes a note, not on his pad, but in the back of his mind. To stay with this man for as long as possible, he asks another question. “What’s up with that scar on your head?”

“I tried to kill myself. Or.. uhm.. My clones tried to kill me. It’s a whole thing. Murder! Then we started talking to him! I started talking to myself. I didn’t know I was… me . I can’t control the clones I make, they just act like the person I cloned. So if I cloned a hero, they would act like that hero.”

“...Interesting. Well I-” A voice came over the speaker on his side. “Your time is over, Mr. Tokuda. Please make sure to pick up any and all materials you brought, then step outside for a contraband check.”

“I must be going now, Twice. Have a nice week. I’ll come whenever I can, okay?” Taneo gets up, scooting his chair back in. He walks out of the room, leaving Twice’s view.

“W-Wait! Don’t leave me with them!” Twice called. He finally figured out how to move, and he lurched forward. He slammed against the glass, and pounded on it. “W-Wait- Please!” His pleas were cut short as an electric shock made him drop to the floor.

Well, Shit.

He said he’s gonna come back!

But what if he doesn’t?

Like everyone else.

Shaddup. The League’s probably gonna come for us soon, so we just gotta wait it out.

But-

“Jin Bubbagaiwara, get back to your bed.” A voice echoed over the speakers. Twice begrudgingly got up, holding his head in his hand. He stumbled to his bed, flipping off the one-way glass.

This was gonna be rough.

The next day (or what Twice thought was the next day) was when he came.

Hawks walked in the room, holding himself assuredly. His wings were slightly burnt on the edges, but other than that, he looked as uninjured as normal. He walked up and sat down on the same plastic chair that Taneo had sat on.

“..Hey.” He said, quietly.

“I ain’t telling you shit, hero.” Twice said, on the brink of yelling. Lashing out. This man-

I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. ” Twice says, crossing his arms. “ Where’s my mask, you weirdo?!

“I just wanna-”

Leave. Fucking Bitch. I don’t wanna talk.”

Hawks took the message, and turned around.

The next day, or not, maybe the next hour, or minute. Twice didn’t know.

“Twice. As you may or may not know, you aren’t actually in Tartarus. This is because-”

“What?! Not in Tartarus? Doesn’t this mean it’s easier to escape? Not villainous enough to be with the big leagues, huh?

“It is as secure, or even more secure. You’re.. ‘As villainous’ as the villains in Tartarus, but also, we needed you to be quick and easy to grab just in case… what’s happening right now happened.” Hawks said, as he swiftly broke the glass. “We need to get out of here, now.”

Twice barely said “Wait what-” before Hawks scooped him up in his arms, and ran out the door.

It.

Was.

Chaos.

Inmates were everywhere, utter turmoil had broken out. Guards were dead, inmates killing them and other prisoners. What looked to be Shigaraki with white hair walked through the chaos, straight through everyone. Anyone who didn’t move died on the spot.

And there was Twice, soaring above them all in the arms of a hero. He was trying to thrash around and escape, but his head was pounding, and he still had that honey-molasses-concrete feeling. “Lemme.. Go!” He yelled repeatedly. “Shigaraki! It’s me-” His mouth was covered by a familiar leather glove.

“Shut up and stop struggling. We can’t use a freaking Hostage if you’re dead.”

“wAiT WhAt-”

Hawks hit him on the back of the head. “Can’t have Shigaraki noticing.”

They flew on through the night, across the small ocean. Twice fought with himself in his mind, but not out loud, fearing Hawks. At one point, he went to sleep, and awoke in a bed.

It was a nice room, with a nice bed and books on the wall. Twice realized that he was in Hawk’s house.

What.

The.

Fuck.

Frick.
