Work Text:
"Y/n, we're going home, let's go!" Your leader calls at you from the door of the dance studio.
"Ah, I'm going to run through the dance a few more times. I’ll be home soon.” You call from the counter, restarting restarting the song.
Your group members share a look before shrugging and leaving. You can hear your younger members giggling as the door closes.
They probably think you’re staying behind to spend some time with your boyfriend, Hyunjin. It wouldn't be the first time, when you two first started dating, you would find excuses to stay at the company building to spend some time together.
But today, you actually were staying late to run over your new dance routine again. You knew it like the back of your hand. You were confident that if you could perform the whole song in your sleep. It's literally your job as the main dancer of your group to be the most solid when it comes to dance performances. And you were with this new song, but you weren't perfect.
Despite your relationship being private, fans would still compare you with your boyfriend, who was the main dancer of his own group, simply because you were in the same company. The comments that people made didn't bother you much. In all ways, he was better than you. His facial expressions, his precision, his movements--all of it was perfect. It's expected, he debuted before you. What did worry you was whether or not he was also reading the comments. You were terrified that he realized you weren't on his level and leave you for someone who could match his skill level.
It was ridiculous, you knew that, but you two only got together because of your dancing. You both joined at the same time and would often train together. You always knew you were good, but never as good as him. But after practices and monthly evaluations, he would often come and find you and compliment you on your dancing. Eventually, you two would practice together, leaving each other in awe. But over time, while he improved it felt like while you hit the peak of your dancing capabilities. He no longer seemed impressed by you and your dancing. You felt like he was getting bored. So, with this comeback and your debut performance you spent extra time at the company studio running through the dance and your solos until your body felt like jelly.
You weren't sure how many times you ran through the song. You had your phone recording you and after each full run through you would go and monitor yourself, finding a new thing you did wrong every time. Your group was set to start filming the music video tomorrow and you needed to be perfect to impress Hyunjin.
Not giving yourself a break to monitor or drink water, you ran through the song three time consecutively, already realizing your mistakes while you were dancing. During your fourth consentive run through without a break you start feeling light headed. Your vision is slowly getting darker and the music more distant, before you know it, your body is dropping to the floor.

You wake up to something cold on your head. Your eyes flutter to reveal Hyunjin's distressed and confused face staring at you, the studio light above his head making him look like an angel, your angel. He's pressing something cold and heavy to your head.
"Oh thank god!" He sighs, putting his free hand on his chest and throwing his head back.
"What...?" You slowly sit up and stare at your boyfriend. He takes the thing on your head and hands it to you. It's a cold bottle of iced tea.
"I almost called an ambulance," He says, helping you up. It takes you a second to realize that you were resting on his lap.
"When did you get here?" You asked, taking the drink and holding it to the back of your neck, still feeling hot.
"I was watching you earlier and then I left to get you a drink and snack. When you came back I saw you swaying and ran to grab you before you fell. I was like spiderman." He runs his hand through his hair, trying to play off how worried he ways.
"You were watching me?" Your eyes turned away, embarrassed.
"Yeah! You know I love watching you dance I ran into your group members on their way out and they told me you were sticking behind. I told myself I would stop by if you were still here by the time I finished and take you home. I'm so glad I did." He grabs the drink and opens it for you, urging you to take a drink. You comply.
"Ah, how embarrassing. You saw all my mistakes."
"What mistakes?"
"Don't do that?"
"Do what?"
"Pretend that I did perfectly to stop from hurting my feelings."
"I'm not pretending. You danced amazingly."
"I need to be perfect. I need to impress you."
"I'm already your boyfriend, what do you mean impress me?" He gently pulls your face in his direction.
"I don't impress you anymore."
"Who said that?"
"I can tell."
"You can tell?" You nod your head, taking another sip.
"Baby, you impress me everyday. You're doing moves that I can only imagine doing. I am in awe of you. If you're staying late, overworking yourself, to impress me than consider your job done!" He says, quickly pulling you to your feet and dragging you out of the dance studio.
"Wait, my stuff!"
Hyunjin helps you clean up before taking your hand and leading you out of the studio.
"If you're worried that my eyes are going to wander because you don't impress me with your dancing I need you to remember that you and your dancing ability have a deathgrip on me and my heart, okay?"
