Summary
After the Battle of the Five Armies, there is much to be done in the restoration of Erebor, however with Thorin, Fili, and Kili gravely wounded after their encounter with Azog the Defiler the Dwarves or Erebor seem at a loss of who to follow. Many seem to think Dain should be the dwarf to step into the king's role while Thorin is indisposed, but by the prompting of the company (and some rumours that Nori seems to have started), the crown comes to rest on Bilbo's head while Thorin remains unconscious and unable to rule. Not knowing how to rule a dwarven kingdom bilbo receives support from his dear friend and advisor Balin and is taught court and royal duties customs by Ori and Dwalin.
though this work weighs heavily on him, his longing for Thorin is even heavier.
