storms and sirens

Summary:

In that little container of his, a tornado sweeping through would kill him.

So without second thought, he pulled on a coat and ran.

-

In other words, There’s a bad storm and tornado sirens go off. Chuuya rushes over to Dazai because he knows Dazai is afraid of storms and sirens.

Notes:

Projected because I wrote this as our tornado sirens went off. (Finished it this morning though.)

So yeah, the storm fear is explainable, but I have this weird fear of sirens/warning alarms or beeps. Don’t know why but I suspect it has something to do with how they go off for serious reasons, so my brain links those sounds with bad situations? I have the same fear with error messages. Like what are they so serious for.

Anyways, enjoy my silly projection onto Dazai but I have nobody to hold me and comfort me because I dumped my gf bc they were treating me goofily! Apologies for my bad titles too…

Work Text:

The sirens blared in his ears as he ran.

It had been pouring for hours now. Like pouring pouring. He intended to get over to Dazai’s but the roads were so bad be didn’t dare try even with his ability. It was just a storm, Dazai would be okay in his container, if not shaken up a little.

That was, until the tornado sirens came on.

Immediately he jumped up. He had been huddled in his room with blankets for warmth when they came on, and his immediately first thought was Dazai.

Dazai hated storms. Hated them. He was always so nervous and scared and it hurt to see him like that. But even the Demon Prodigy had fears, irrational ones. And another one of Dazai’s fears was sirens . They made him hyperventilate and shake to the point he’d puke and pull his hair out, sometimes even stratch his skin open.

Neither Dazai or him knew the cause, but he knew he had to get to Dazai in this moment. A storm and sirens. And in that little container of his, a tornado sweeping through would kill him.

So without second thought, he pulled on a coat and ran. And when he got outside, it was so goddamn windy. Rain everywhere, even hail, and God he wished he went to Dazai sooner because he didn’t realize how bad the storm was. In his little container it was sure to be 10x worse and Dazai hated loud noises.

Thunder boomed and lightning crackled as he ran as fast as he could to Dazai’s container. He ignored the hail and rain hitting his clothing, his ability preventing it from actually doing anything. He was right, a car or motorcycle in these conditions would be deadly.

He made it to Dazai’s in record time and swung the door open. He ignored the pang in his heart as Dazai screamed at his intrusion and instead pulled the door closed as hard as he could against the wind.

When he got situated he ran over to Dazai who was curled up on the floor in a ball hyperventilating. He knelt down next to him, grabbing his hands that were tangled in his hair gently but firmly.

“Dazai. I’m here Dazai. You’re okay. Dazai,” he said in a calming tone, but worry seeped into it. Seeing Dazai, so fragile and vulnerable, hurt.

He repeated Dazai’s name a few more times until his head shot up.

“C-Chuuya- Chuuya,” Dazai stuttered, removing his hands from Chuuya’s and instead climbing into his lap and fisting his shirt tightly.

Dazai gasped as more thunder boomed and rain hit the ceiling loudly. He buried his head in Chuuya’s neck and he shook tremendously. Chuuya whispered to him and brushed his hands through his hair as he also flinched slightly at the noise. Everything echoed in here, it was basically a tin can.

“Dazai, let me get up and get you some blankets and I’ll grab the radio. Okay?”

Dazai scooted off wordlessly, still hyperventilating and clenching his fists. Chuuya got up and grabbed the few blankets he had, wrapping them around Dazai. He grabbed a small radio Dazai had and turned it on, to hear updates on the storm, or really, tornado.

It was a mistake.

As soon as he clicked on, the warning alarm for a weather alert came on. Dazai screamed. Chuuya tried to get it off, but in both of their panics he couldn’t find the off switch. Eventually it ended, only for a different one to play. This time, Chuuya turned it off before it could finish.

Chuuya scooted over to Dazai again.

“Shit. I’m so sorry Samu. Sorry. I’m so sorry. C’mere. You’re okay. You're okay.” He cradled Dazai in his arms, rocking him back and forth as he continued to repeat that he was okay. He ran a hand through his hair again, Dazai gripping onto him like he was dying.

“I’m so sorry Samu. I didn’t mean to. You’re okay. We’re okay.”

They stayed there for a while as Dazai regained his breath, still hiccuping slightly and definitely still shaking.

“Better now?”

Dazai nodded slowly, still curling into Chuuya’s touch.

They sat there the rest of the night, Dazai eventually falling asleep in Chuuya’s arms. Chuuya willed himself to stay up, watching Dazai to make sure he didn’t have any nightmares and the storm didn’t get bad enough that Chuuya had to evacuate them.

Hours later, the storm cleared up, fading into light raindrops that echoed in the container, then to nothing at all. Dazai stayed up all night, curling up into Chuuya!s arm arms.

And the next morning, everything would be like nothing happened.
