Work Text:

"Thanks for tonight," Adora whispered to Catra, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead. "This has been the best birthday I've ever had."

Catra snuggled closer, her arms tightening around Adora. "I'm glad you had a good time. I just wanted to see you happy," she admitted, her voice tinged with vulnerability.

"You always make me happy, Catra," Adora replied sincerely, her eyes sparkling with honesty. "Having you here means everything to me."

Catra raised her head, locking eyes with Adora. Her gaze shimmered, reflecting the soft moonlight peeking through the curtains.

"Do you really mean that?" Catra asked, her voice soft and trembling.

"Absolutely," Adora affirmed, her fingers tracing a tender path along Catra's cheek. "I love you, Catra. You're the best present I ever got." She chuckled. "And I'm not just saying that because we met on my birthday."

Catra playfully shoved her. "You're the one who approached me on the playground to invite me to your birthday party when I didn't even know you."

"Yeah," Adora said with a soft smile, "but you're the one who came anyway."

Catra's eyes glistened, and she leaned in, capturing Adora's lips in a tender kiss. Their lips moved with a natural cadence, expressing the depth of their emotions without needing words. As the kiss deepened, the world around them faded, leaving only the two of them wrapped in an intimate cocoon of love and devotion. Their connection strengthened, a bond forged through shared experiences and unwavering support. Eventually, they pulled away, their breaths mingling, faces flushed with emotion. Foreheads touching, they gazed into each other's eyes.

"I love you too, Adora," Catra whispered, her voice laced with heartfelt emotion. "You are my everything."

Adora smiled, her heart brimming with warmth. "And you are mine," she replied, tenderly cupping Catra's face. "You always will be."

They remained in each other's embrace, softly conversing and sharing stories from their past. As the night wore on, their conversation gradually slowed, and they found comfort in the peaceful silence, eventually drifting off to sleep, still entwined in each other's loving embrace.

The next morning, Adora woke up to gentle sunlight filtering through the curtains, with only a light hangover. Catra slumbered soundly beside her, her breathing calm and tranquil. Adora couldn't help but smile as she watched her, feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude and love for the woman who had transformed her life in ways she never thought possible. Careful not to disturb her, Adora slipped out of bed and quietly made her way into the living room. Glimmer, Bow, and the others were already up, laughing and chatting as they finished tidying up after the joyful celebration.

"Hey, birthday girl!" Glimmer called out when she spotted Adora. "Did you sleep well?"

"Like a baby," Adora replied, her smile unwavering. "I want to thank you guys for last night. It was unforgettable."

"Of course! We had a blast," Bow chimed in, beaming with delight. "You deserved a big bash for your 21st after being stuck in quarantine last year."

They all shuddered, remembering her last birthday party attempt. They had tried putting everyone on Zoom and playing a drinking game together. Seahawk and Mermista got into a screaming match after drinking too much and left to have makeup sex. Scorpia and Perfuma indulged in some edibles at the beginning and had to leave after Scorpia started panicking that she'd "greened out". The night finally ended halfway through the movie when the call crashed unexpectedly. Glimmer spent twenty minutes drunkenly trying to make it work again before conceding defeat.

Adora chuckled. "I know. Thanks so much! You guys are amazing," she said warmly. "I've got to get back to Catra before she wakes up. You know how grumpy she gets in the morning."

Her two friends teased her light-heartedly before she returned to her bedroom to find Catra sleeping soundly in a nest of blankets. A pillow had replaced her as little spoon, clutched tightly in Catra's naked arms. Adora looked at her girlfriend in awe. This was the woman who made her heart beat faster than anything else. She tugged the pillow from her grasp (earning a muffled "hey!") before taking its place. Catra snuggled closer without waking up.

The day after the party was all about recuperation for the two couples. Glimmer kindly grabbed breakfast burritos for everyone from their favorite local diner. Feeling a bit worn out from the previous night's festivities, the couples opted to eat in their respective rooms, cherishing some quiet time alone. Adora decided to hit the gym for an intense workout session, leaving Catra with loving kisses and a promise to return soon. While Adora was away, Catra took a relaxing shower and focused on her engineering homework. When Adora came back, she surprised Catra with pizza, and together they cuddled up on the couch, watching Netflix until late into the night. The cozy evening was a perfect way for them to unwind and enjoy each other's company after a long day of recovery.

As they settled into bed that night, Adora and Catra engaged in an intimate conversation about their future. Bathed in the soft moonlight, their faces illuminated, they spoke of dreams and aspirations.

"I can hardly believe how far we've come," Adora whispered, her fingers gently tracing patterns on Catra's arm. "From our past in the Horde to this moment, envisioning our future together."

Catra smiled, her eyes gleaming with affection. "It's been quite the journey," she admitted, her voice carrying the weight of memories and growth. "But I wouldn't trade any of it. Being with you has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined."

Adora's heart swelled with love. "You changed my life too, Catra," she confessed, her voice soft and heartfelt. "You showed me a different path, a path illuminated by love and compassion."

They basked in a comfortable silence, reveling in each other's presence. The unspoken words hung in the air, understood deeply by both. Together, they knew they were destined to walk this path side by side, to build a life filled with love and happiness.

"You know," Catra began tentatively, "I've been thinking a lot about our future lately."

Adora turned to her, intrigued. "What do you mean?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

Catra blushed, but her gaze remained steadfast. "I mean, I can see us getting married one day," she admitted, her voice a tender whisper. "I want us to make it official, to have a future that the world recognizes."

A surge of joy swept over Adora, and she pulled Catra into a loving embrace. "I want that too," she said, her heart dancing with excitement. "I want to marry you, Catra. To commit my life to you, to love you for all the days ahead."

Tears welled in Catra's eyes, and she nestled closer, her face buried against Adora's neck. "You have no idea how much that means to me," she murmured, her voice quivering with emotion. "I love you more than words can express."

"I love you too, Catra," Adora replied, her voice filled with tenderness. "And I can't wait to marry you."

They lingered in each other's arms, their minds drifting to another shared dream, one that had been growing in their hearts. Catra was the first to broach the topic.

"You know, one day, I think I'd like to have kids," she said, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Adora smiled, her heart swelling with affection. "I think you'd make an amazing parent," she said, her voice soothing and supportive. "And I'd love nothing more than to have a family with you, Catra. I can already imagine little Greyskulls and D'riluths running around."

Catra's eyes shimmered with tears of joy. "Really?" she whispered, her voice catching with emotion.

"Really," Adora affirmed, her thumb tenderly wiping away a tear from Catra's cheek. "I can't imagine a more beautiful life than the one I get to have with you."

The two lovers continued talking late into the night, sharing dreams and hopes for the future. With each shared aspiration, their love deepened, and the path ahead glowed brighter and more promising.
