Work Text:
“Are you not tired?”
Toya hears Akito’s cute, lethargic voice echo next to him, words unintentionally slurring together. He folds the corner of his book — currently halfway completed — and closes it, giving his full attention to his half-awake boyfriend. Akito’s olive eyes are half-lidded, his orange hair messily ruffled when he woke up from his nap and his clothes crumpled from his awkward sitting position. It’s such an endearing sight, and Toya wants to kiss him.
They’re currently on the train, on the way back to their home after a long show. Maybe it was a less populated area, or maybe they were the main characters in this world, but the train was almost empty when they had entered, save for a few students going home from school. Akito had almost immediately fallen asleep after sitting down, eyes too heavy to stay open and head plopping onto Toya’s shoulder. Toya, on the other hand, opted to admire the city’s scenery for a while, taking in the warm sight of the sunset over the buildings.
Beautiful hues of orange and yellow illuminated the train, and they shone at the sleeping Akito, highlighting his already bright orange locks. The empty train made the sight before him even more breathtaking, the silence accompanied by Akito’s slow breathing.
Ah, I was supposed to admire the scenery.
It was only a while later when Toya could finally rip his eyes away from his boyfriend and start reading his book instead—
“Toya? You there?” Akito’s voice snaps him out of his reverie, making him realise he’d been lost in his own thoughts for a while now. What was I thinking about? Train, view, book, cute sleeping boyfriend, cute awake boyfriend, kissing said boyfriend.
Right.
“Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts for a moment there.” He flashes a smile at Akito, knowing he’ll forgive him easily. He’s right, because he sees Akito’s face colour itself pink, and his boyfriend quietly stutters a small, “I-it’s fine.”
Akito clears his throat and asks, “Wanna nap for a while? There’s still a while before we reach our station, and you seem a little tired with all that reading— daydreaming and all.” The orange-haired boy giggles at Toya, and he feels like his ears have just been blessed.
Toya laughs a little as well, fond of his boyfriend’s teasing. “Are you sure? You can sleep again if you want to, Akito.”
“Nah, I’m pretty awake now. We’ve had a long show today, you should rest a little too.” Akito grins at him, attempting to guide Toya’s head to his shoulder. Toya feels his body melting at Akito’s touch, eyes suddenly threatening to close shut and limbs losing strength.
Well, who am I to deny my boyfriend’s request?
He lets Akito gently shift his head to his shoulder, Akito repositioning himself so Toya doesn’t have to lean too far down to rest on his shorter partner. While Akito is adjusting, Toya takes this opportunity to move his head up, leaving a small kiss on Akito’s lips. He feels Akito stammer in shock at his action, body frozen in contrast to his soft, warm lips. Toya pulls back, silently laughing at Akito’s blushing state. He’s so cute.
“Toya! Y— you can’t just do that! I wasn’t ready for that at all— how are you so bold sometimes? I shouldn’t have taught you about surprise kisses, how am I going to recover from this?—“
Toya leans his head back on Akito’s shoulder, ignoring Akito’s constant blabbering about the kiss. His head is now stuck in a half-awake daze, the golden hour reflecting in the train only making him more sleepy. “Akito, can you sing a little for me?” He asks.
Akito stops, the simple request from Toya seemingly clearing all thoughts from his head. “Sure, anything for you.” Toya can’t see Akito’s face, but he can hear the fond smile laced in his words.
Akito starts humming their songs, the gentle tune giving Toya comfort as his eyes give in to sleep. If he was awake, he’d feel Akito idly caressing his two-toned hair, a soft kiss placed on his forehead, and a whisper, “Good night, Toya.”
They miss their stop, both inevitably falling asleep in each other’s warm embrace. It’s funny, but it’s a small moment they’ll treasure for the rest of their lives.
