“Yeah, that’s– that’s fine,” Taehyun managed to say, though his words came out barely stronger than a whisper. The officer bowed his head, and then Taehyun closed the door. His hands were shaking so badly that he couldn’t lock it, and he barely made it out of the entryway before his knees gave out. He slid to the floor, unfeeling.
Taehyun. Taehyun, wake up.
Huh? Is everything okay?
It’s fine, I just– I wanted to tell you goodbye. I’ll be back later, probably around dinnertime.
Okay. Bye, hyung.
That was all he had said. No “goodbye,” no “be safe,” no “I love you.” Just bye. Too tired to even open his eyes and see Beomgyu’s face one last time. What was the reason?
