Chapter Text
In Taehyun’s 20 years of breathing, he’d never been in a relationship. I guess you could say no one was right for him. He’s had a couple people confess to him, mostly in highschool, But he rejected all of them. And the reason for that would be a certain boy.
Taehyun would be lying if he said he’d never fallen in love. Because he has, and it all started in the middle of 2nd grade. The teacher introduced a new student joining them, coming from Daegu. And Taehyun was flabbergasted at how much energy this boy had. If taehyun was a new student, especially in Beomgyu’s position where he doesn’t know anyone, he would be panicking like crazy. He’s seen out-going people before, but never this hyper.
Even on early Monday mornings, Beomgyu would show up to school with a bright smile, and lots of energy. This would brighten up everyone’s mood, even the teachers.
Beomgyu found this boy incredibly interesting, some days he was out-of-this-world intelligent, and others he would get stuck on basic problems. Some days he caused trouble, and other days he followed the rules (in a hyper way). On top of how interesting he is, he was also unconditionally cute, cute enough to make taehyun smile.
Taehyun would find himself just staring at the little troublemaker, observing him. The only person he told about this interesting lad was his older sister.
“Aww, does little taehyun have a crush?” She teased when Taehyun told her.
Taehyun and his sister have a shared room. He decides to tell her all of this late and night laying in bed, because he couldn’t sleep, thinking about a certain boy.
“Whats a crush?” Taehyun asked, tilting his head with curious eyes.
“You’re the smartest in your class, and you don’t know what a crush is?” She chuckled.
“Well have you talked to him yet?”
“No”
“Why not?”
“I’m nervous”
She let out another huff of laughter.
“Your really cute when your shy.”
Taehyun shifted his lips into a frown at that.
“Hey! It was a compliment!”
She pinched taehyun’s cheeks, thankfully not as hard as he usually does.
“He goes on my bus”
“Really? Then you should talk to him”
“Noooooo”
Taehyun whines as he shoves his head into his pillow. He can hear his sister laughing in the background, but tried to ignore it.

In middle school, taehyun realized that he liked Beomgyu, but still didn’t have the guts to talk to him. In 8th grade he kind of fell out of love, but that didn’t last long.
On the first day of 9th grade, he saw Beomgyu again. The change from the last day of 8th grade, and the first day of 9th grade almost made taehyun’s jaw drop. It made taehyun fall in love all over again. It also made him realized that he never out of love in the first place.
And since then, he’s been crushing in Beomgyu. But their was a problem, Beomgyu didn’t even know that Taehyun existed. Mostly because taehyun would never (ever) talk to him.
Now, they were in collage, and maybe, taehyun’s appearance changed, but his love for beomgyu remained. Even now, when he was sitting at his favorite cafe on campus, (it was only his favorite because it was Beomgyu’s favorite)he was admiring beomgyu from afar.
Beomgyu is extremely popular, always with a large group of friends. His best friends were Choi Yeonjun, and Choi Soobin. Girls would fall for Beomgyu left and right, only to be rejected by Beomgyu when they confessed. Beomgyu wasn’t the type to get into fights, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, there were always fights on the rooftop of there school. Taehyun was anything but popular, most people didn’t even know he existed, or referred to him as ‘a nerd’.
Taehyun was drinking his caramel macchiato while pretending to do homework on his laptop. In reality, he was just admiring Beomgyu, who was drinking his Iced Americano while typing something on his laptop. Beomgyu was sitting near a window, and taehyun was not too far away from him, but far enough so that was not visible to Beomgyu.
Sitting across from taehyun was his best friend, HueningKai. Who was eating a chocolate ship cookie and enjoying a vanilla latte. Taehyun didn’t know when he met kai, he just remembered one random day in middle school, kai appeared and they were friends. Kai was another person in taehyun’s life, along with his sister, who constantly forces taehyun to go talk to beomgyu instead of silently gazing at him from afar. Obviously, taehyun always refused.
“Taehyunie, are you gonna talk to me, or just stare?”
“Sorry, Beomgyu just took my breath away, for the 6th time today,”
“Seriously? How long are you gonna keep this up? You need to talk to him before it’s too late,”
“I know, i know,”
“Clearly you don’t. You’ve been crushing on him since when?”
“I don’t even remember,” taehyun chuckles.
“Well, I heard Mr. Park, your music professor, is assigning group work soon, hopefully he pairs you both together.”
“This isn’t some sort of K-Drama, Hyuka,”
“I know but i’m still keeping my hopes up for you,”
“Thanks?”
_____
“Did you study for the test?”
Yes, Beomgyu was smart, but he never studies, which leaves people wondering how he always aces every test. Even random pop quizzes that are half your grade for some reason. So, Beomgyu wonders what went on in his best friend, soobin’s mind when he asked this question.
Beomgyu tilts his head slightly and replies “you already know I didn’t,”
“Yah, you need to start showing some effort, or else you’ll fail your classes”
Soobin scolds Beomgyu, knowing he was gonna pass the test whether he studied or not. All Beomgyu could do was nod and pretend like he was listen to soobin.
“okay hyung, whatever you say,”
***
Beomgyu ended up passing that test (who’s surprised?) with little effort, while soobin was next to him whining about his score. They both walk out of their class, and into the main campus, and sit down on a bench next to a huge bush of roses.
It was really a shame Beomgyu was not allowed to to take any roses from the bush, but at the same time, he understands why. If they were allowed to take roses, the bush would be empty because of all the students constantly snatching roses every time they see one.
“Yeonjun invited us to his dorm for the night! you coming?” Soobin said his eyes still glued to his phone.
“No thanks, i’d rather not third wheel for the whole night,”
“Third wheel?”
Soobin’s eyes were now finally off his phone.
“Yeah, i’ll let you two love birds have some time alone,”
“Love birds?”
“Gosh hyung, you really are clueless, aren’t you?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Just go have fun, yeonjun hyung’s probably waiting for you.”
“okay, okay,”
He gets up and starts walking backwards, still facing Beomgyu to say bye.
“Don’t worry about dinner, theres food in the fridge,” soobin said, waving.
“okay, don’t worry. I’ll take care!
Soobin finally turns around around and starts skipping to his destination. Cute.
beomgyu sat back down bringing his attention to his phone, checking his notifications when he hears a gruff voice directed to him.
“Yah!”
Beomgyu knew exactly who it was and exactly why they were here, but beomgyu was not in the mood to deal with him.
Choi San.
He was known for making people’s lives a living hell and beating students up. He once sent someone to the hospital, last year.
“You think I was gonna forget about what you did the other day?”
San and Beomgyu were never really on good terms. It all started a long time ago, they had a petty fight over something Beomgyu couldn’t quite remember, but he knew it was way worse then it needed to be.
Ever since then, there’s been many incidents between them, some small, and some escalating into harsh arguments and a couple fights.
But now was not the time for one of those incidents.
No. Not now. Not him. Beomgyu’s head was saying.
“YAH!” San yelled, catching the attention of many students passing by.
“Say something, asshole!”
He reaches down to where beomgyu was sitting on the bench to grab his shirt collar, dragging beomgyu up to his feet.
“Listen, im not in the mood to do this right now. Go pick on someone else,”
“Do you think I care about your mood?”
“San-“
“-you’re really pathetic.”
The grip on Beomgyu’s shirt tightens
“And so are your your friends. Especially that Soobin kid. Who the hell does he think he-“
San never got to finish his sentence because beomgyu broke out of his hold and landed a punch straight on his jaw, making him fall on impact.
Beomgyu didn’t realize it right at that moment but, he was mad when San talked negatively about Soobin, or in that case, any of his friends. It’s okay to criticize Beomgyu, but when it comes to his loved ones, he really gets angry.
He was about get out of there but before he could move, beomgyu himself was tackled to the ground from behind.
