Chapter Text

Los Angeles 30 September 2019.

It had been five hours since the tsunami and two hours since Buck had lost Christopher after he had fallen into the water and by this time night had fallen and Buck was still looking for the 7 year old boy who he promised to look after and keep safe.

"CHRISTOPHER, CHRISTOPHER CALL OUT BUDDY" Buck shouts.

After a few minutes Buck shouts again "CHRISTOPHER CAN YOU HEAR ME? I NEED YOU TO CALL OUT SUPERMAN?" Buck doesn't hear anything so he continues to walk the streets looking for his best friend's son.

Buck was determined to find Chris and to make sure the boy was safe and that Eddie wouldn't have to bury his son who he completely adores and is his whole world.

Buck had passed a few people and they were all heading in a different direction from him but he managed to ask them if they saw Christopher and Buck showed them the photos he had from when they were in the photo booth from earlier and they all said no and gave Buck a sad look.

Buck didn't let that stop him and he kept going but the more he moved the more his body was starting to hurt and Buck noticed that he was bleeding but he wouldn't give up until he did everything to find Chris.

Buck never thought today would go this way and a small part of him blamed Eddie for just coming into his apartment and dumping his son on him just because he had to work and didn't even think that maybe Buck would just want to be left alone and mope as he had the right to do so but no Eddie thought he knew better and Buck's not angry with Chris he would never be angry or upset with his number one Diaz but he just needed time to himself and look at what other jobs there were or look at going to a new firehouse.

The more Buck walked the dark streets of L.A. the more he started to feel dizzy and he was getting tired more quickly but he kept saying "I need to find Chris" and he would continue and just focus on his goal of finding him.

Buck had passed a few more people but he didn't stop for long after he asked them if they saw Chris and got told no so he moved on and he ignored them when they told him he needed to get medical attention.

Buck's body was starting to take its toll now and Buck just kept going and kept saying "I need to find Chris, I need to find Chris" but his body was not agreeing with him and when Buck walked past an alleyway he just completely fell to the floor and when he tried to get up he couldn't and his eyes started to feel heavy and all the adrenaline was now fading and the last thought he had was that he failed to save Chris.

Carlisle and Esme Cullen were celebrating their wedding anniversary and decided to head to L.A. and they were enjoying it and to anybody they looked like a normal married couple.

Carlisle was happy and he had always wanted to go to L.A. and he knew that they would have to come out at night time only but they had booked into the most expensive hotel and they told the staff not to disturb them and the amount they paid made the staff follow their instructions.

Esme was completely in love with L.A. and all though she was only seeing most of it at night time it didn't bother her as she still loved the gift her mate gave to her and she would never change her life as she gets to be a mother to three boys and two girls.

"What are you thinking about my dear?" Carlisle asks.

"Just how happy I am," Esme says.

Carlisle pulls his wife closer and gives her a kiss and thinks how lucky he is to have her.

Just as the couple are kissing they stop and look at each other they can smell something metallic and they know it's blood and they both run of in search of the cause and when they come to a dark alley they see a blond man with scratches on his face and his clothes are all dirty and wet and as they approach the smell becomes stronger and they know this is the source of the smell and when get close enough the two Cullens see how bad he looks and they can tell he is close to death.

"Carlisle" Esme says.

"I know my dear," Carlisle says.

"I will phone Alice and get her to set up a room and tell her to get the others ready" Esme says, pulling out her phone.

"He doesn't have long to just tell them that we are heading back home," Carlisle says.

"Are you gonna change him here and then travel back?" Esme asks.

"I have to, it's the only way," Carlisle says.

Ok be quick though I don't trust us being exposed like this" Esme says.

Carlisle agrees with his wife but he won't let this poor man die in some dark alley like he is nothing and for some reason Carlisle feels like he is meant to save him but he will speak to Alice maybe she had a vision and didn't tell them.

Carlisle bites into the man and once he feels the man's heart start to slow down he stops and knows that he is going to be OK.

Esme calls the hotel and tells them that one of her kids is in hospital so they have to leave immediately and can they send their things to Forks and to just take the full payment for their stay.

After phoning the hotel Esme phones Alice and only waits five seconds.

"Esme what's going on? Why are you calling?" Alice asks.

"Me and Carlisle are coming back, we will tell you everything but you need to get a room ready" Esme tells her daughter.

"Do I need to get the others?" Alice asks.

"Yes you will just tell them that once we are back it will be clearer" Esme says.

"Ok" Alice hangs up.

"Let's go," Esme says to Carlisle.

Forks, Washington, Cullen Residence.

After Alice got off the phone with her mother she did as Esme asked her and went and got the others and got a room ready for whoever they were bringing back.

"Edward,Bella,Jasper Emmett and Rosalie" Alice calls out.

All five of her siblings come rushing to her as Alice is in one of the spear rooms and getting things sorted.

"Alice what's going on?" Rosalie asks.

"Esme phoned and she and Carlisle are on their way back" Alice says.

"Ok. Why are you getting a room ready?" Emmett asks, confused.

"They're bringing someone back with them aren't they?" Edward asks, reading his sister's thoughts.

"You know I really hate it when you do that Edward" Alice says.

Edward just laughs at his sister because she does the exact same thing when she gets her visions.

"I don't know for sure but I am confident that they are but I didn't get a vision of anything happening or Esme and Carlisle making a decision to do something like that" Alice says.

"Could this person be immune to your vision like the Quileutes are?" Jasper and Bella ask together.

"They could be and that would explain why I didn't see anything but I won't know for sure" Alice says.

"Well you won't have long to wait. I can hear Carlisle and Esme coming" Edward says.

Right after Edward said it Esme and Carlisle come through the door and the siblings see Carlisle carrying a male with blond curly-hair and he has blue eyes and looks to be the same height and weight as Emmett.

The Cullen's rush to Esme and Carlisle and they take in the scene and Rosalie for some strange reason feels like she has seen him somewhere as she feels a connection to him but not in a romantic way.

"We will explain in a bit but first let's get this guy into a bed so he can rest before the transformation takes over" Carlisle says.

Once placing the stranger in the bed and making sure he was comfortable for when he transferred from human to vampire Carlisle left the room to go speak to his family.

"Alice didn't get a vision about the guy" Esme says as her husband enters the living room.

"What about me making the decision to turn him into a vampire?" Carlisle asks.

"Nothing," Alice says.

"We reckon he could be immune to her visions like the Quileutes are" Jasper says.

"Would explain why you didn't get a vision or see me making a decision to turn him" Carlisle says.

"Where did you find him?" Rosalie asks.

"In a dark alleyway" Esme says.

"So like me then" Rosalie says.

"Rosalie I know how hard this is for you and I know you have struggled with what I did to you but I won't apologize for saving this man like I saved you" Carlisle says.

"And what happens when he wakes up and he finds out what has happened to him? What about the family he might have and how they have to mourn him or wonder where he has gone? Sometimes Carlisle you saving us is not a good thing" Rosalie says and walks off.

"I'll go talk to her and get her to say sorry" Emmett says.

"No it's fine Emmett she has the right to say those things and I think it's been coming for a long time" Carlisle says.

"So what do we do?" Edward asks.

"When the guy wakes up we talk to him and be honest and then he makes a choice to stay here and be one of us or to leave as I won't force anyone to stay against their will" Carlisle says.

"Do we offer him a place to stay if he wants to come back?" Jasper asks.

"Yes we do as we have all gone through the rebellious stage and I won't turn my back on someone who needs help and I didn't raise you all to do the same" Esme says and walks away to get changed.

The entire family just look at each other and even though Esme never gave physical birth to them she has been a mother to them since they became vampires.

Back in the spear room Buck is starting the transformation and thank god he is already unconscious as if he was awake he would be screaming out in agony.

The transformation gives you the feeling of being burned alive even with An injection of Morphine it will cause paralysis that makes Buck feel like he is trapped in his own body.

Eventually, Buck copes with the pain and starts to ignore it. The morphine paralysis eventually wears off, but Buck remains completely still throughout the process to keep from hurting himself.

Near the end of the three days he feels his heart being destroyed and his life flashes before him and he sees images of Eddie and Chris, Bobby and Athena,Hen and Karen and he sees images of his parents and Maddie and Chimney but he sees them in a new light.

Buck feels his heart beat for one last time and thud. He opened his eyes and was amazed by his new senses.

Buck is completely still and he is afraid to move as he is feeling completely confused as he doesn't know where he is but that's not the strange part all of a sudden Buck is feeling very thirsty and is not a normal way he used to feel this is different and it's painful.

Buck sits up after a while and he starts to look around and the first thing he notices is his eyesight is better, laying his new eyes first on a light on the ceiling, claiming to see an "eighth" color emanating from it—UV light. Shortly after his creation Buck hears the door open and in walks a man who Buck has never met and Buck is completely frozen as Buck noticed a few things about this strange person.

Buck notices that this strange man was young,he had blond hair… and he was handsomer than any movie star I'd ever seen. He was pale, though, and tired-looking with circles under his eyes.

"Hello my name is Carlisle Cullen and may I ask your name?" Carlisle asks.

Chapter Text

Three days earlier.

Eddie and the rest of the 118 were helping people and trying to locate any survivors from the tsunami and take them to the makeshift hospital.

When the 118 came across firefighters from the 128 they took them there and because Eddie has medical training he got asked to stay and Bobby agreed to it.

Eddie was completely rushed off his feet at the hospital and he just hoped that Christopher and Buck were OK but he couldn't help but have this feeling that something was wrong.

Eddie got told that a bus with more people was arriving and they had better be ready.

By that time Bobby,Hen,and Chimney were at the camp and helping as much as they could.

When the bus pulled up everyone was getting off and saw a woman carrying a little boy wrapped up in a red coat and he had blonde curly-hair and the little boy looks like he is struggling to walk so Eddie goes over to them and when he comes face to face with them he is completely shocked as he comes face to face with his son.

"Christopher" Eddie says and picks him up.

"Daddy" Christopher says and hugs him really tight.

"Are you Buck?" The woman asks.

"No, I'm Eddie, his dad," Eddie says.

"He kept saying I need to find my Buck," the woman says.

"Buck fell into the water and we need to find him as he saved me and protected me" Chis says.

"We will don't worry," Eddie says.

"Thank you" Eddie says to the woman and she walks away.

Bobby,Hen and Chimney rush over to Eddie.

"Eddie, let's get Christopher checked out," Bobby says.

"No we need to find Buck he needs our help" Christopher says getting upset that no-one was looking for his Bucky.

"Christopher sweetie we need to check to see if you are ok" Hen says.

"No, we need to find Buck" Christopher says.

"Christopher, lo encontraremos, hijo. Prometo" Eddie says to Christopher.

(Christopher, we will find him, son. I promise)

Christopher pulls out his pinky and holds it out to Eddie.

"Pink promise" Chis says.

Eddie laughs of course Buck would teach him the Buckley pinky promise and Eddie does just that.

When they get Christopher looked at they are so glad he is OK and Christopher agrees to go and stay with Eddie's Tia Peppa and Abuela so Eddie can look for Buck.

Eddie takes Christopher to his Abuela and Tia Peppa and gives them a quick rundown of what happened and they both tell him to bring Evanito back to them.

After promising Christopher again Eddie gets in the truck and drives off to meet the others.

Chimney had told Maddie that Buck was missing and she was devastated but said she will stay at dispatch and look for him that way and to keep her informed if they find him.

Athena was heartbroken as she thought of Buck like a son and she prayed to god that he was alive and phoned Michael to look after May and Harry.

It took four hours to try and find Buck but they had to stop as it had become so dark that they were struggling to see anything but everyone agreed to try the next day.

The Next day there were more people looking for Buck as Bobby had been informed that Buck had saved over a hundred people when the tsunami had first hit and it made Bobby feel guilty for lying to Buck and keeping him in the dark about the real reason he wasn't allowed back on the team.

When the Chief's of the LAFD found out that Buck was missing they all joined the search too.

2 days later and Buck was still not found and everyone agreed that it was time to give up and Eddie said no it's not time but Maddie said that it was.

When Eddie told Christopher the boy screamed at him and told him that he was just giving up and went to his room and slammed the door.

It broke Eddie as he was already blaming himself and when Chris blamed him too it completely broke Eddie but his Abuela and Tia were there to keep him up and said for him to take some time off from work.

The day after they gave up on looking for Buck Eddie sat Chris down and told him he won't give up on Buck and that he was taking some time away from the 118 and he will speak to Bobby about going to another house.

Chris was glad that his dad was keeping his promise and he was angry that the rest gave up on Buck, especially Buck's sister.

When Eddie went into the station he got changed and he went straight to Bobby's office.

Bobby was deep in paperwork and trying to figure out how he was going to replace Buck when there was a knock on his office door.

"Come in," Bobby says.

Eddie walks in and sees Bobby is busy but he needs to do this now or he won't do it.

"Whatever you need Eddie, can it wait?" Bobby asks.

"No it can't" Eddie says.

"What's up Eddie?" Bobby asks.

"I want to put in for a transfer to another house?" Eddie asks.

Bobby is shocked and he doesn't know what to say.

"Eddie, are you sure?" Bobby asks.

"Yes I am" Eddie says.

"Can I ask why?" Bobby asks.

"Bobby you know why and quite frankly I am disgusted how you all have given up on Buck" Eddie says.

"Eddie Maddie made the decision as his sister" Bobby begins to say but Eddie interrupts him she hasn't seen Buck since he was eighteen so I'm sorry but she had no right and I am his power of attorney and medical proxy so in fact it was down to me" Eddie says.

"Eddie, I'm not sure you're thinking right" Bobby says.

"Look Captain Nash either accept my transfer request or put me on medical leave it's your choice" Eddie says.

"I'll start your transfer request. You may need to be a floater for a while until a space comes available at a firehouse" Bobby says.

"That's fine with me" Eddie says and leaves Bobby's office.

When everyone found out that Eddie was leaving the 118 they tried to get him to change his mind but Eddie was adamant.

Eddie got home and told Chris that he asked for a transfer and Chris was happy and he asked if they could spend less time with the 118 as he doesn't like how they gave up on Buck and Eddie agreed thinking the same thing especially Maddie and how she didn't fight like hell for her brother.

Cullen Residence Three days later.

Buck stood there completely in shock he didn't know how to answer it like his brain had just suddenly stopped working.

"Buck my friends call me Buck" Buck says to the stranger who called himself Carlisle Cullen.

"Well it's nice to meet you Buck" Carlisle says.

"Can I ask where I am?" Buck asks.

"You are in Forks Washington" Carlisle answers.

"How did I get here?" Buck asks.

"Buck I carried you" Carlisle says.

Buck looks at the man and thinks it's impossible and the man is lying to him.

"Buck I know it sounds impossible but I need you to listen to me as what I'm about to tell you may seem completely bonkers but every word is true" Carlisle says.

The only thing Buck could do was nod.

Carlisle sits next to Buck and tells him everything from finding him in the dark alley in L.A. to turning him into a vampire to bringing him to his home in forks to him going through the transition of becoming a vampire and him waking up three days later where he is a newborn vampire.

Buck looks at the man and thinks he has gone completely insane and what this guy is saying can't be true.

"There's no way any of this is true, you're lying to me?" Buck asks.

"Buck what I am saying is completely true and deep down you know it's true" Carlisle says.

Buck knows the man is right as a part of him knows that he has changed and looking at himself the things Carlisle has told him do add up.

"Buck I'm not expecting you to stay here but I want you to know that me and my family would be happy for you to stay but first things first we are going to need to go hunting as you are no doubt thirsty" Carlisle says.

"I must admit I am feeling a tad thirsty," Buck says while smiling.

"Well let's go hunting" Carlisle says.

Buck follows Carlisle to the window and Carlisle tells him to just copy him but to trust his intrinsics and they both jump out the window and land on the floor and Carlisle runs off and Buck is amazed for only a minute before he does it himself and and the next thing he knows he has caught up with the older Cullen and Buck feels completely free and he loves this new sense of feeling.

Buck managed to capture a deer and he drank its blood and once the animal's blood touched his lips his throat seemed to become less painful and more bearable and Buck found that he enjoyed the taste of the animal's blood.

2 hours later Buck and Carlisle are walking back to the Cullen Residence and Buck opens up to the man and he feels like he can trust him and tells him about his old life and Carlisle said it will take him time to adjust and get used to this new life but the good thing is that when he became a vampire that his body heal completely and any injuries were no longer going to impact him.

When Carlisle and Buck enter the house they go towards the living room and there already is the rest of the Cullen family.

"Buck this is my wife and mate Esme" Carlisle says introducing the woman.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Buck," Esme says, giving him a warm smile.

"It's very nice to meet you Esme," Buck says, returning the warm smile.

"Buck these are my three sons Emmett,Edward and Jasper and these are My three daughters Alice,Rosalie and Bella" Carlisle says introducing the three men and three women.

"Actually I'm Carlisle's daughter in law" Bella says.

"You are still a daughter to me Bella" Carlisle says.

Buck takes on the appearance and they all look the same as they have the same pale skin,the same golden eye color and the same bags under their eyes it's only their hair color that tells them apart.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all," Buck says.

Buck looks at them and they look like a normal family and his heart breaks as his own family will be thinking he has died and his thoughts turn to Christopher and how the boy has lost someone else after only losing his mother so soon.

Edward can hear Buck's thoughts and he knows how the young man must feel but when Buck thinks about someone called Christopher, Edward suddenly finds that he can't hear the man's thoughts.

"May I ask who Christopher is?" Edward asks Buck.

Buck looks at him and wonders if he said it outloud but he knows he didn't.

"That's none of your business" Buck says.

Edward tries to see if he can read Buck's mind by only focusing on him and just as he is about to hear a memory Edward suddenly hears his family's thoughts like they are attacking him and Edward falls to the ground.

"Edward, are you ok?" Esme asks her son.

Edward gets up and takes a few minutes to gather his strength.

"I'm fine. I just suddenly heard all of your thoughts and it was like they were attacking me" Edward says.

"What were you doing?" Carlisle says.

"I was focusing on Buck but as I got close to hearing a memory all of a sudden I got blocked and then I heard all of you" Edward says.

The Cullens are shocked that Buck managed to project all of their thoughts back at Edward and Carlisle starts to think that maybe this would explain why Alice didn't get a vision.

Carlisle has an idea and he hopes it works out.

"Buck when people become vampires some of them have special abilities and as they surface after their transformation and some of us have had these abilities from when we are human but they have stayed dormant but once you become a vampire they start to surface and I have a feeling you have had an ability that is now manifesting" Carlisle says.

"So you all have special abilities?" Buck asks.

"Only Edward,Alice,Jasper and Bella" Carlisle says.

Buck should be surprised by this new piece of information but he isn't.

"So you think that I may have a special ability?" Buck asks.

"I do acutely and I want to see if I'm correct so I'm going to get Jasper to use his ability on you and see what happens?" Carlisle says.

"Only if that's OK with you Buck as you don't have to feel pressured into saying yes?" Esme asks Buck.

Buck thinks about what Esme says and he appreciates her looking out for him.

"Thank you Esme I appreciate you looking out for me and before I say yes I would like to know what ability Jasper has?" Buck asks.

"Jasper has the ability to control other people's emotions," Carlisle says.

"Ok I'm ready" Buck says.

Jasper moves so he is in the center and he can focus on Buck and as he is projecting he can feel Buck's emotions very from nervousness to excitement to worried and Jasper latches on to that feeling and tries to calm him down but as he is doing so he suddenly gets his with a range of emotions and he can't seem to handle them and he collapses to the floor.

Buck can feel Jasper using his ability and his emotions are all over the place and he is feeling nervous, excited and worried and he can feel Jasper latch on to that and try and calm him down but suddenly Buck is starting to feel like his emotions are getting to calm and he feels like they aren't his so he fights back the feeling of Jasper's ability.

After checking that Jasper is OK and making sure Buck is OK Carlisle knows what is going on.

"So I have figured out what has happened to both Edward and Jasper when they use their abilities on Buck" Carlisle says.

"What's the verdict?" Everyone asks at the same time.

"So from witnessing what has happened to both Jasper and Edward Buck does have an ability and it's an ability that is very powerful" Carlisle says.

"What ability do I have?" Buck asks Carlisle.

"Buck you have an ability that's called reality warping and hex power that means you are able to turn people's minds to a scenario that suits you and are also able to turn other people's ability against them and that is a very powerful ability" Carlisle says.

Everyone takes in the information that Carlisle has given them and the pieces start to form and it makes sense to Buck as every situation he has been involved in he has been able to turn them to his advantage.

"So how do we get Buck to control his ability and we know he can ever see Eddie and Christopher" Edward says.

Buck feels angry at how Edward so casually brings up his Diaz boys and he knows that he can't see them, he is not stupid.

Edward lets out a grunt like he is in pain and they turn and look at Buck and they can tell he has already got control over his abilities.

"Don't you ever read my mind again and never mention those two names as well as I won't be responsible for my actions" Buck says.

"Edward apologizes now" Both Esme and Carlisle say.

"I'm sorry Buck I had no right" Edward says.

"I accept your apology but that doesn't mean I have to forgive you" Buck says.

Carlisle shows Buck where can stay until he knows what to do.

It had been 6 months since Buck had first met the Cullen family and he had managed to fit in with them and he was able to get his ability under control in only a week and Carlisle was impressed and when he asked Alice if she had any visions about Buck she told him that Buck was keeping her out and she couldn't see anything when it came to him.

Carlisle could tell it frustrated Alice that Buck was able to turn her ability against her and in some way he thought it was good as they relied too much on Alice's visions.

Buck practiced his abilities on a daily basis and at first he found being a vampire weird and he kept reminding himself that his old life was over but it got a bit better.

At times Buck would think about Eddie and wonder how he was doing and he hoped that they found Christopher.

One night Buck is sitting in his room and he is reading a book and his thoughts go towards Los Angeles and he thinks about how he could check to see if Christopher is alive and how he was doing.

Before Buck knows it he is packing a bag and looking at flights to L.A and he knows he needs to keep out of sight.

Alice is talking to Bella and Rosalie and they are having a laugh and Alice suddenly goes quiet and She gets that look on her face and her sisters know she is having a vision but of what they don't know.

“Carlisle come quick” Bella calls out.

Carlisle was in his study and when he heard Bella call him he ran straight to her.

“What's wrong?” Carlisle asks.

“Alice had a vision,” Rosalie says.

“Alice what did you see? Carlisle asks.

“A decision has been made,” Alice says.

“By who and what decision?” Bella asks.

“By Buck” Alice says.

Rosalie And Bella are confused as they thought Alice couldn't see any decisions Buck made as he has been keeping everyone out of his mind and his feelings so this shocks them.

Carlisle understands what his daughter is saying and he wondered when the young man would make the decision but it looks like he made it without knowing as he knows Alice would get a vision but he is going to talk to him and make sure he knows to keep his distance and Buck can stay in the hotel that him and Esme went to as they have a permanent room there as they pay a lot of money.

Buck finished packing his bag when there was a knock at his door so he went and opened it and Carlisle was standing there.

Buck stepped aside and Carlisle entered his room and he saw that Buck was already packed.

“Let me guess Alice had a vision?” Buck asked.

“Yes it seems that you finally allowed her to see what decisions you make,” Carlisle said.

Buck knew he had been keeping Alice at arms length and it wasn't just her but the rest of the Cullen family but Buck was still getting used to this new life and he wasn't sure if he wanted to stay so he thought it was best to not get close to them.

“Buck I know that you don't trust us yet and that's OK and when you're ready to open up to us we will be here no matter what” Carlisle says.

“I know I haven't been opening up to you guys but the truth is I may not be sticking around and I do appreciate you saving my life but I miss my old life and at times I wonder if maybe things could be different that's all” Buck says.

“Buck we understand and please don't think we are mad at you and we know that you are adjusting so I want you to meet me and Esme in my study before you leave?” Carlisle asks.

Buck looks at the man and he wonders what is going on and why he wants to talk to him in his study and with Esme there as well but Buck nods and Carlisle says be there in 10 minutes and the older Cullen leaves.

Carlisle finds Esme in their bedroom and he tells her his plan that he came up with about how he would like to give Buck some of their money as they have loads and Esme says he won't take it as she can tell he is a very proud man and Carlisle says what about if we pay for him to have an education again and Esme thinks that's a good idea but what could he study and they decide to ask Buck.

10 minutes later Buck knocks on the door of Carlisle's study and when the man tells Buck he can enter Buck opens the door and goes inside.

Buck greets Esme and takes a seat and he wonders what this is about.

“Buck me and Esme spoke and we understand that you want to head back to L.A but we are worried that by doing this your going to be hurting yourself and I know you don't trust us yet but we feel like you are a son to us and we are not stopping you and we support you all the way but we have an offer for you” Carlisle says.

“What's the offer? Buck asks.

“Well me and Carlisle have both agreed to give you money as we are very rich and we know you won't take a penny off us so how about the money we give you goes to you going back to university?” Esme asks.

Buck is very shocked at what he is hearing and he knows the Cullen family are rich and he doesn't care about the money and to be honest it would be nice to do something different.

“Are you sure?” Buck asks.

“Buck we are more than sure and we want to do this so how about we come to L.A with you and we can help you look at universities and I know a few people” Carlisle says.

Buck says thank you to both Esme and Carlisle and he tells them he leaves in half an hour and they say we will be ready in 5 minutes and Buck laughs at that and leaves.

Once Esme and Carlisle are packed they tell the rest of the family what's going on and Rosalie asks if she can come along as her and Buck have spoken more to each other in the past 6 months as she knows how the man feels and Carlisle says its down to Buck and when the man comes into the living room he says it's fine and Buck can see the hurt on some of the family members faces but right now he just wants to focus on going to L.A and making sure Christopher survived.

The group say their goodbyes and tell them they will be back in a few days and they leave for the airport.

The flight to L.A didn't take long and when they landed they got their bags and when they stepped out of the airport they were met with rain and dark clouds.

Buck is surprised as normally it's sunny and warm but it seems that's not the case.

“This is completely different from the last time we were here,” Esme says.

“Normally it's sunny and hot,” Buck says.

The Cullens get a taxi to the hotel and once there they head to reception and book in and they find out its been like this for 6 months some days the weather is so bad that they have had to turn people away and other days it's been fine and the group wonder what's been going on but they just say that they are only here for a few weeks.

Once they are in the room that Esme and Carlisle have they put their bags in the rooms they have and take a seat at the table and think about what is going on and it does make meeting people more safer as with the sun being blocked than they won't be exposed and they can use it to their advantage.

Buck feels weird being back in L.A but he gets his emotions under control and thinks things through.

Rosalie can tell Buck is feeling nervous about being back and she understands as just like him she he wasn't given a choice and there was so much she wanted to do with her life but that was taken from her and that's why she never really understood why Bella would chose this life but she is starting to get on with her sister in law.

Esme looks at Buck and can tell he is thinking did he make the right choice to come back here but he has her and Carlisle and the rest of the family and she knows that he needs to see this boy Christopher to make sure he survived the tsunami.

Carlisle goes in to the room he and Esme will share and gets out his phone and he looks through his contacts and thinks about who would be the best person to phone and what university Buck could go to.

“Trying to figure out what to tell people about Buck?” Esme asks from the door.

Carlisle looks up and sees his wife standing at the door and he isn't surprised that she can tell what he is thinking.

“I am but I don't know what I should tell people with the other kids it's fine but Buck is no teenager” Carlisle says.

“I know but how about saying he is your nephew and he is looking for a fresh start in life” Esme says.

“That could work but what does he want to study? That's the question they will ask” Carlisle asks.

“How about medicine?” Buck asks.

Both Esme and Carlisle look around and there is Buck standing in the doorway.

“I'm sorry but I was feeling really nervous so I thought I could talk to you both” Buck apologies.

“Buck it's fine and we're glad you wanted to speak to us” Esme says going over to hug the man.

“What would you want to study in medicine?” Carlisle asks.

“I think maybe a doctor or a nurse,” Buck says.

“That's nice and are you sure?” Esme asks.

“Esme is right you can pick anything you want Buck honestly?” Carlisle asks.

“I appreciate you guys caring and I'm sure about this and it would be nice to try a different career and I would still be helping people” Buck says.

“Ok then I will phone a few contacts of mine and tell them that you're my nephew and your looking to try a different career after you lost faith in your previous job” Carlisle says.

“What if they ask about my old career? I mean the truck bombing was on national television?” Buck asks.

“Well you don't actually look like you anymore and I doubt anyone would say you look like the guy who was involved in the truck bombing so your safe” Carlisle says.

“Look Buck we understand that your worried but it's going to be fine and we have done this before” Esme says.

“And if things do go sideways you could always use your ability to make things turn to your advantage” Carlisle says.

“Carlisle that is not an option” Esme says, hitting his arm and giving him a disapproving look.

Buck laughs at that and Carlisle gives him a wink.

Buck leaves Esme and Carlisle's room and goes to his own and sits on the bed and he can't believe how close he is to both Eddie and Christopher and he wants to run straight to them but he keeps his emotions in check and thinks about what he is going to do now that he has new opportunities.

Chapter Text

Rodeo Drive Beverly Hills, California

A year has gone by and Buck had completed his first year as a resident and as he looked in the mirror that hung up in his bedroom closet Buck could tell he had changed and things are now better for him.

Buck and the Cullens are building a relationship and Buck has opened up to them and both Carlisle and Esme have given Buck advice.

Rosalie and Emmett have spent some time with Buck and the three of them have grown close.

The only people Buck hasn't grown close to is Alice,Jasper,Edward and Bella and he is still keeping them at arm's length.

Edward has tried to get to know Buck but it always involves Edward using his telepathy abilities on Buck and Edward has been reminded that Buck doesn't like it when Edward disregards his boundaries.

Buck has been doing nights as Carlisle said it would be better for him and he wouldn't be exposed and no one would figure out his secret.

After getting changed into his civilian clothes, he gets his duffle bag and heads off to work.

Buck gets into his car and drives off to work and it doesn't take that long to get to the hospital and once there he parks his car and gets out.

Some of the doctor's know Buck and quite a few of them have flirted with the former firefighter and Buck just tells them that he has recently gotten out of a relationship.

After Buck heads into the locker room and gets changed he goes and looks for his attending and finds out what he will be doing.

Once Buck finds his attending he gets told to go and check on the patients in bed 4 and 5 and once he has done that the patient in bed 6 needs to be looked at.

Buck does as he is told and he gets to work and he has finished with seeing two patients and he is just starting on the patient in bed 6 when he sees the doors open and he sees two paramedics pulling a gurney and the person is wearing a firefighters uniform and Buck hopes the firefighter is going to be ok.

As the gurney gets pulled by Buck looks at the person on the gurney and he is shocked that it's Eddie and he is bleeding out and he can smell there is something different about it and Buck drops what he is doing and follows the paramedics.

Buck attending looks at him and Buck tells the doctor he used to know him and the doctor said that he needs to prepare himself for the worst.

The doctor's wheel Eddie into surgery and Buck waits outside and he knows he should get back to work but he doesn't want to miss anything.

Back in the OR the doctors are doing everything they can to save Eddie and the more they try and save him the more they are losing him.

No matter what the doctor's do they can't seem to find the problem and when Eddie codes they try and resuscitate him but after 5 attempts they give up and they all agree to call the time of death.

Buck's attending finds him outside and tells him that he is sorry but they couldn't save him.

Buck asks if he can see Eddie and his attending allows to give him some privacy so Buck goes into the room and he can see Eddie lying on the table and he goes over to him and he looks at the man he hasn't seen in over a year and he still looks as handsome as ever and Buck thinks about Chris and how he has lost two parents now.

While Buck is lost in his thoughts he hears Eddie’s heartbeat and the man is still alive but Buck can tell he is nearing death.

This is the first time Buck has ever come across this and he doesn't know what to do.

Buck pulls his phone out from his doctor's coat and he phones Carlisle and the man answers.

“Buck what's up?” Carlisle asks.

“It's Eddie he has been shot and the doctors think he is dead but his heart is still beating but it sounds like he is close to dying and I don't know what to do” Buck says.

“Ok take a deep breath and I'll talk you through on what to do” Carlisle says.

After Buck takes the breath he listens to what Carlisle says and he does as he is told and he finds some adrenaline and he injects Eddie and then he bites him on the shoulder where the bullet wound was.

Buck knows the process so he leaves Eddie and when he gets out of the room his attending doesn't comment on how long he took.

10 minutes later and Buck comes back from him being away and he has pulled himself together and he gets back to work and he goes and sees the patient in bed 6 and the guy looks like he is going to kick off and for the first time Buck uses his ability to control the situation and the guy just accepts Buck's apology.

Buck finished with the patient and they found out he needs an operation so Buck books him in for that when he hears a familiar voice and he turns around and he sees it's Bobby and the rest of the 118.

“Excuse me, we're here to see Eddie Diaz?” Bobby asks the woman who is at reception.

“Let me find his doctor,” The receptionist says.

Buck is so glad he has changed and that no one knows him.

Buck decides to get away from the 118 as he feels this is a moment he shouldn't be involved in and as he is walking past he bumps into Bobby and his former captain nearly falls over.

Buck catches him and both Hen and Chimney come up behind him so Bobby doesn't fall over.

“I'm so sorry I didn't mean to bump into you” Buck says.

“No it's my fault honestly” Bobby says.

Bobby looks at Buck and he feels like he knows him and it's crazy because he hasn't seen this doctor before.

“I'm sure it was both our faults but if you'll excuse me I have patients to see” Buck says and he leaves.

“Bobby you ok?” Hen asks.

“Yeah I thought I recognised that doctor that's all” Bobby says.

“He did look familiar but let's be honest he was hot and I like girls” Hen says.

“Family of Eddie Diaz?” The doctor asks.

“That's us,” Bobby says.

“Robert Nash?” The doctor asks.

“Yes, that's me,” Bobby says.

“Please come with me?” The doctor asks.

Bobby follows the doctor and he is led to the doctors office and once they are both sat down the doctor tells him that unfortunately Eddie has passed away and they tried everything they could but he lost too much blood and there was no way he would survive the damage caused by the bullet.

Bobby sits there frozen and he can't understand how Eddie is dead and how the hell this happened and what the worst part is he needs to go out there and inform his team that Eddie is dead and then go over to Eddie’s and tell Christopher that he had lost his second dad.

Bobby asks if he can see Eddie and he gets told that unfortunately he can't as he would be taken to the morgue.

After speaking for a few more minutes both Bobby and the doctor leave the office and Bobby heads back to his team and everyone is there in the lobby but what makes it worse is that Christopher is there with Ana Flores who Eddie was dating at the time.

“Bobby, how is he?” Athena asks as he is coming over to them.

Bobby pulls her to one side and he tells her that he didn't make it and she has tears in her eyes but she wipes them away and stays strong as that's what Christopher needs.

Bobby walks over to the group and Ana is holding Christopher like he is a baby and from the look on his face he is not happy with her.

“Hey buddy” Bobby says.

“How's daddy?” Christopher asks.

Bobby takes Christopher from Ana's arms and she is not happy but she stays silent.

Bobby takes Chris over to the other side and he sets the boy down on the chair and he gets in front of him and tells Chris that Eddie died and when the whole team hears Christopher let out the most painful cry they know it's not good news.

Ana can't believe that her boyfriend is dead and she runs out of the hospital and the team don't seem to notice.

Christopher clings to Bobby and the boy cries and cries.

Buck watches on from the side and it hurts him that Christopher has go through this but as he watches the boy cry his heart out he looks out the window and he sees dark clouds start to form and the next thing that happens is rain starts to pour from the sky and Buck looks at Chris and he has his question answered from over a year ago about how the rain lasting for 6 months happened.

Buck phoned Carlisle again and they all came up with a plan to bring Eddie back to forks and Carlisle told Buck to act normal and not to draw attention to himself and he and Emmett will take care of Eddie and they will see him after he joins them later.

After getting off the phone Buck passes the orderly whose job it is to take the deceased to the morgue.

Buck gets on with his work and he makes sure to act normal and no one notices and Buck is glad he has 2 weeks off as that way he can help Eddie as he knows it's going to be tough especially when he finds out he can never see Christopher ever again.

Hours later and Buck has just finished his shift and as he walks out the hospital he sees Emmett and Carlisle entering the side door to the morgue and Buck knows Eddie is in safe hands.

Buck gets home and he packs his bags and books his flight to forks and gets changed into some new clothes and once that is all done he grabs his things and locks his house and sets the security code and locks the door.

Once Buck has reached the airport he gets out of the car and tells his Chauffeur that he will be away for 2 weeks and the man agrees to phone Buck to ask when he is back so he can pick him up.

When Buck was given the money by Carlisle and Esme it took him a while to get used to him having so much money and in the last year he has had more money coming in as he invested some of it and when the older Cullens told Buck he would be getting a Chauffeur as they wanted him to the person Buck agreed and him and his driver get on and Buck asks the guy about his life.

Buck gets on the plane and he takes his seat in first class and he is lucky that the Cullens own the plane so he doesn't need to worry about other people.

The plane takes off and now Buck has to focus all his attention on Eddie and it's going to take him using his abilities also.

Chapter Text

Buck's plane lands at the airport and he gets off and Rosalie is waiting for him.

Buck and Rosalie have spoken about their lives and how they thought things wouldn't be like this but it looks like destiny had other plans for them.

Buck greets his sister and he puts the bags in the boot and gets into the passenger side.

After Rosalie gets in she drives them both home.

20 minutes later, Rosalie pulls up and Edward and Bella are standing outside to greet her and Buck.

Both Buck and Rosalie get out the car and Buck gets his bags and Edward come up to him and offers to take them to his room so that Buck can focus on Eddie and Buck thanks him and leaves to go and find Carlisle and Emmett.

Edward has spoken to Bella and Carlisle and they have both said that sometimes Edward comes across of as very arrogant and with his ability he knows people's most inner thoughts and darkest desires and that's not always a good thing especially when some people have trust issues so Edward has decided to try and get to know Buck a different way and if that means offering help when needed that's what he will do.

Bella is glad that her husband is showing that he wants to get to know Buck and by doing the small things first then Buck will ask for help with the big things and Buck will see that Edward wants to be brothers with him.

Rosalie looks on as Buck walks away and she gets why he has put his guard up as from what Buck has told her and Emmett he never had a great childhood and this Eddie and Chris were his whole world.

Bella and Edward take Buck's bags up to his room and they don't hang around as Buck desperate his privacy.

Buck finds Carlisle and Emmett in the same room that he was in a year ago and Eddie is already lying on the bed.

“How long will the transformation take?” Buck asks.

“Normally three days but it may take Eddie longer as his body has suffered damage like this in the past” Carlisle says.

Buck looks at the man he is still in love with and a year has obviously had is toll on him as he is different from how he used to look.

Eddie has got some kind of beard going on but it's like the scruffy kind and he looks good with it,the next thing Buck noticed was that he has another tattoo on his arm and it's got the initials E&B and a date and time and Buck can't believe that Eddie would put their initials and the day he and Eddie became official friends and the time of when they were in the truck when the guy had that live grenade in his leg.

Carlisle looks at his son and to Eddie and he sees the tattoo and he wonders what it means but looking at Buck it means something special so he won't pry.

“Eddie may not want stick around when he wakes up and he finds out the truth. Are you prepared for that?” Carlisle asks Buck.

“Yes I'm prepared for whatever his chooses to do” Buck says.

“OK then we will leave you and Eddie alone” Carlisle says.

Emmett and Carlisle leave and they close the door and Buck is actually feeling nervous for the first time.

Buck takes a seat and he looks around the room and thinks about what he could do.

Buck found himself reading a book that he wasn't that interested in and he couldn't really concentrate as he was thinking about what to tell Eddie.

While Buck is deep in thought he doesn't see Eddie waking up.

Eddie opens his eyes and he looks around the room and he is shocked by his new senses.

Eddie sits up after a while and he starts to look around and the first thing he notices is his eyesight is better, laying his new eyes first on a light on the ceiling, claiming to see an "eighth" color emanating from it—UV light. Shortly after his creation Eddie looks over to the other side and he sees Buck sitting in a chair.

“Buck” Eddie says.

Buck looks up and he sees Eddie is awake and his eyes are red but Buck gets up and goes over to him.

“Hello Eddie,” Buck says.

“I thought you were dead and you're actually alive” Eddie says.

“I am and I know it's scary but I need you to listen to me as I'm going to tell you how I'm alive and where we are” Buck says.

Eddie nods and he hold on to Buck as he needs to feel the man after a year of believing he was dead.

Buck sits in front of Eddie and tells him everything and he tells him how he lost Chris and he walked around trying to find him and how no one had seen him and Buck tried everything but he was hurt and his injuries were so bad that he collapsed in a dark alleyway and the next thing he remembers is waking up in this room and he got told what had happened to him” Buck says.

“What happened?” Eddie asks.

“I became a vampire Eddie and that's what you are now” Buck says.

Eddie lets out a massive laugh and he looks at Buck like the guy has lost the plot.

“Sure Buck I'm a vampire” Eddie says laughing.

“Eddie, I'm serious,” Buck says.

“Buck there is no way you're a vampire and neither am I” Eddie says.

“Really. How's your shoulder doing?” Buck asks.

Eddie looks at Buck and he realizes that his shoulder is fine and he doesn't feel any pain at all.

Even his old army wound is not causing him any pain and Eddie feels like he hasn't been shot before.

“See not that ridiculous now is it” Buck says.

“I guess not,” Eddie says.

“Come on, it's time for you to go hunting,” Buck says.

Buck leads Eddie to the window and he can tell the man is nervous.

“Follow my lead,” Buck says.
