Work Text:
it was a random Thursday night in the U.A dorm of Class 2-A. Izuku couldn't sleep. To say the war just fucked him up in the head even more was a understatement. it was one of those nights where he couldn't sit down without wondering where every noise was coming from or ponder about if they all where really safe. He knew he should probably get help but he's Izuku Midoriya. Nights like this he would do random shit but his phone charger broke after he accidentally broke it, he's already read all his books several times, and he had nothing to do. He decided to go down to the common area since it was raining and it had big windows. Izuku liked the rain.
Katsuki was pissed. He couldn't sleep and it annoyed the shit out of him. He had trained too much and gone to sleep too early, causing him to wake up in the middle of the night. He was pissed. He decided to get a glass of water to calm himself down, as it was raining. Even though katsuki getting wet as it didn't go well with his quirk, it always calmed him to look at it and watch it fall. Katsuki walked into the common area, as he walked over to the fridge to get a water bottle he saw a tuff of green hair on the couch. He knew exactly who it was. He wasn't suprised at the fact Izuku was up, He would honestly not surprised if he wasn't, though it was unusual for him to be in the common area. He grabbed his bottle of water and sat down next to him. And muttered "Why are you even up" Kasuki spoke in a curious tone, he also sounded slightly annoyed. Izuku slightly flinched at the sudden appearance and then went back to being calm after he saw the blond, A small and soft grin appeared on his face.
"Oh..Hey Kacchan." Izuku shifted slightly to make room for Katsuki, bringing his knees up to his chest and laying his head on his knees, continuing to stare out the window. ""I..um..I couldn't sleep. How about you?" Izuku spoke in a hushed tone as if scared to wake up the other 18 people.
Katsuki sat down next to him and gently whispered "yeah same."
The two boys sat there in silence with the quiet pitter patters of the rain. The moonlight lit izukus face in a way that honestly made him look angelic, His lips looked soft, and his green eyes sparkled like emeralds, His green curls framing his hair perfectly. Katsuki watched him as he took in Izuku's appearance. He couldn't help but stare. Katsuki's thoughts were then put aside, as the crimson eyes of his scanned the rest of his body. Unexpectedly Izuku spoke up.
"I don't think there's anything more calming than the rain..especially when its night" he leaned against the armrest and watched how the different water drops hit the window, and then slid down.
Katsuki wasn't sure what to say so he said something else about the rain. "I like the fresh smell after it leaves." Izuku grinned softly at Katsuki's response. "yeah..that's nice." Katsuki went back to admiring Izuku, taking in all his battle scars, some looked as if they weren't born during fights, they weren't very visible, and obviously old, and you had to look hard enough to even make them out but it still raised a few red flags. He spoke up about the scarring that looked to...neat to be accidental.
"hey..are all your scars from fights?" Part of him didn't want to know, as he recalled the past 14 years. Izuku though for a moment while looking at his hand "Most of them..middle school was..hard." He spoke in a soft and somlem tone. Katsuki felt a strong sense of guilt. He obviously recalled the treatment izuku got for being quirkless, hell he was part of it, probably the worst. He felt bad, he didn't bother asking if it was because of him, knowing he wouldn't believe it even if the he said no. "I'm really sorry." this wasn't the first time Katsuki had apologized, Izuku felt it wasn't necessary as he felt Katsuki had nothing to atone for, Still he appreciated it as every single word would burn into his memory for him to repeat it to himself at night, it was something he said just for Izuku, and Izuku cherished it. There was a moment of silence between them before Izuku replied, "It wasn't just you. That whole school was just shitty. But honestly? I never held it against you.I mean i wasn't a fan of the treatment but I never held a grudge." Izuku spoke softly and said it as if it was common sense, something Katsuki should had expected from him. Katsuki was obviously confused as to how Izuku didn't hate him but the only answer that really felt right was that, Izuku was just to nice to do that. Katsuki admired that.
Katsuki got comfortable on the couch, leaning back and watching the rain fall. Izuku chuckled for a moment before speaking. "I think people are to hard on rain you know? Most see it as something bad but truthfully.. Its really beautiful." its was obvious he wasn't just talking about rain, he didn't try to hide it. He was using the rain as a metaphor for Katsuki. Katsuki didn't say anything. He just went along with it. Katsuki thought for a moment then spoke, talking in a calm and soft tone, something that was rare."I love that no matter how many drops hit the earth, it always gets back up again." Izuku grinned softly at the words. He replied."I think..the rain is misunderstood by most but personally.. I really like the rain.. I think its perfect."
Perfect..? Katsuki turned slightly red at the words falling out of Izukus mouth as he took note of every single one, holding onto them like gospel. He never really understood izuku, so how, after all these years, could he sit here, and say all these things about Him."You think the rain is..perfect?.. In what ways?.." Izuku thought for a moment before replying. "In every single way."
Maybe it was the sleep deprivation that made it easy, or the fact that it was raining, because they had been alone many times before, but this felt..different. It felt as if all these words had been forming over the years and they've found a way to express them with rain, and so they grappled at the chance to let the other know how they truly felt. Katsuki couldn't believe it. Most who knew him would probably describe him as explosive, loud, annoying, self centered and rude, but Izuku. Izuku didn't. Izuku saw something good in him, and that was something he wouldn't trade for the world. Izuku wasn't sure why this was all spilling out his mouth but, he didn't try to stop it as he dreamed of of saying these words, this moment, every night.
Katsuki let a few seconds go by before his next question, making sure he didn't sound shocked
"What if..the rain forgets how beautiful it is?."
Izuku thought for a moment and then chuckled
"Then I'll be there to remind it, Always." The words stuck Katsuki like lightning, giving him life. "Always?" Izuku nodded "Always." He glaced at katsuki and then looked back at the window. "I love the rain...I've always have, I've never had the gall to tell it..silly huh? I can fight in a war and battles but can't tell someone I love them.."
Katsuki felt his face become hot, as he studied Izuku's. He had a million questions running throughout his mind, but only one managed to slip out. "Why?.." He whispered under his breath softly, still starstruck by what Izuku was saying. How. Why? Would he love Katsuki. After everything.. How would he possibly love Katsuki back. Izuku looked down and then at Katsuki. His gaze was soft and alluring, something Katsuki wished he could frame and hold onto forever. "Because its amazing.. and beautiful and..I don't think I could imagine my life without it. Its always been a part of my life and..I wouldn't change that for anything.". Katsuki decided to say how he felt, no better time would come. "The rain is..truly amazing. it's beautiful, and stong and no matter how many people stomp on it, it doesn't listen and always gets right back up, and that is something I truly admire, I love the rain and I don't think I could stop if I tried my damn hardest." Izuku blushed at what katsuki said as a nervous smile appeared on his face, both of them failing to make eye contact. Izuku leaned against Katsuki, resting his head on his shoulder.
"I'm glad there's rain Kacchan."
Katsuki let a faint chuckle escape his lips.
"I'm glad there's rain too Izuku."
Katsuki placed his hand out for izuku to take it, and that he did, his hand felt soft compared to Katsukis calloused hand. They're fingers interlocked and they slowly but surely fell asleep, with the comfort they found in each other.
(btw EVERYONE took pictures the next morning.)
