Summary
Felix never gave much thought towards romance. The only thing he's useful for is fighting on the battlefield.
However, he can't deny the feelings he's discovered since arriving at the monastery and being in close proximity to his childhood friend. Sylvain tends to have that effect on people, despite how much Felix doesn't want to accept his newfound feelings.
But when Sylvain appears with another marriage proposal from his father, Felix wonders if he's lost his only opportunity to live the life he wants, with the person he wants.

“monarchopsis” is the collection of letters written amongst a group of kids staying in a psych ward where talking (along with just about every other basic human right) is prohibited. if you’re not seething with rage at the world by the time you’ve finished this novel, i haven’t done my job.
this story deals with unfiltered and visceral retellings of grief, ableism, childhood trauma, abuse, eating disorders, sexual assault, and the mental health of those affected.

Later, when he stumbles across Felix in the alley between the dorms and the sauna, crouched low to the ground and stroking a gray-striped cat, Sylvain still can’t find it in himself to be mad, mostly because he’s too busy trying to convince his heart to keep beating.
It’s just Felix, he tells himself. It’s just a cat. Two things he sees every damn day, and yet, when you put them together like this, the sight is lethal enough to kill him on the fucking spot.
Sylvain is a liar. Felix sees through him.
