Another song fic, my loves, and I'm sorry, it's 200% a heartcrime!

CW: A brief mention of Pyrrha wanting to attempt un-aliving.

This one is inspired by Heat Waves by Glass Animals.

Work Text:

Pyrrha came home late.

Nona had been asleep for at least an hour by the time Camilla looked up from the couch to the door, monetarily wary, before she relaxed onto the couch; as much as she could, anyway.

Dumping her bag unceremoniously on the floor next to the small table they used for meals, the ex-Lyctor scanned keenly over the body of her companion.

Well, one half of her companion, anyway.

Those piercing grey eyes met her brown, and Cam's shoulders flexed slightly as she perceived someone who had lived through things she couldn't even dream of. She was wearing a simple grey bandeau and black workwear, figure hugging in just the right way, yet functional.

"Pyrrha."

"Cam."

The Sixth has been sitting deep into the couch, but now lifted her legs so that her head rested on her knees, rocking gently for something to do as much as whatever emotion ran amok within.

"How was work?"

"Fine. How is Nona?"

"She's good. Blabbered on about jellyfish. We should both anticipate a return of requests to go to the beach again."

Pyrrha nodded gravely, moving to one of the covered windows. With great care, she pulled one aside, just a little, the room immediately washing in a pale dim light that clashed immediately with the light inside. Cam cringed but allowed it, especially when the other woman pulled a cigarette from a concealed pocket. She watched silently as Pyrrha lit the thing, and didn't say anything when smoke started to curl out and away into the air.

Camilla tried not to look at her lips as they caressed and gripped the rolled paper.

They fell into silence then, and Cam seized her opportunity.

Standing from the couch in a movement that had Pyrrha arching a brow, she moved confidently, invading the ancient woman's personal space.

The only sign that Pyrrha was surprised was a tightening of her jaw.

She looked down at the girl in front of her, and she felt a blaze of heat in her chest. She watched a bead of sweat roll down the Sixth's forehead.

Pyrrha paused and gently muttered a curse. "Fuck… Cam-"

She was silenced by soft lips on hers, a fit, gorgeous body pressing into her, and she flicked the cigarette out the window as she let out a deep groan. Those large, working hands came up to brush across that olive skin of her back, strong enough to do damage, but so tender and soft in that moment, moving slowly down…

It only took a few moments, however, for her brain to process what was happening, and Pyrrha moaned into the cavaliers mouth as she moved her hands back to Camilla's shoulders, pushing her lightly away.

The hurt in the younger woman's eyes was unbearable.

Pyrrha closed her eyes and felt Cam take a couple of steps back, breathing slightly heavier than normal. She spoke then, owing an explanation.

"Hec… Cam. Camilla. We can't."

Her eyes opened again as she heard movement, and she watched as Cam turned away, shifting her weight from one foot to the other and back rapidly, agitated, but listening. "Why not, Pyrrha? I see the way you look at me, so does the Warden." It came out as a frustrated snap.

The centuries old woman took a deep breath, held it for a moment and let it out, and the weight of millenia settled onto her shoulders, familiar and yet never welcome.

"Because, dear one… you deserve…" She faltered.

Camilla turned back then. Those clear, piercing eyes pinned her in place; accusing, angry and hurt. Pyrrha's soft, sad ones met them, and she found the words.

"You don't need me."

The weight shifting stopped, Cam turning to stone. The silence made Pyrrha want to throw herself out the window.

Oh, how she wished she could end it.

Her voice dropped. "I can't give you what you need… I'm old, a ball of tragedy and violence, and you, young, vibrant, strong… you don't need that. You deserve someone who can make you happier than I."

Camilla blinked a couple of times, before she turned away from the sad enigma of a God-forged being.

Her voice was even quieter than Pyrrha's, and it was only the silence that allowed the verbal knife to be thrown. "Goodnight, Dve."

"Goodnight, Hect."
