The beginning of Summer rolled around the corner faster than anticipated. Humid heat radiated throughout Ninjago’s major cities and towns. Wasps, bees, and other insects reared their heads out to either pollinate the beautiful flowers or annoy picnic goers. Summer was Lloyd’s favorite season out of the four and it was due to the Empire’s gorgeous season decorations and events. His fathers had made sure that there would be a plentiful amount of summertime events for the kids, seniors, and all in between, with the gates opening to allow all of Ninjago to enjoy too.
Staring out from his balcony, Lloyd watched the people dance in the square. Their movements were similar to that of a herd of sheep. All moving together in time of the fast beat and tempo. Smiles of joy and sounds of laughter made the young ninja’s heart swell. He may not be a true prince anymore, but he lived within the Malachite Palace’s walls with his family during vacations, and viewed the people with no less love and compassion. They were still his people no matter if he was the Green Ninja or not.
Dressed in his techno robes, Lloyd stepped away from the balcony and out his room. The Palace’s halls were filled with stale unbreathable air with heat being almost unbearable. The downside of Summer has to be the weather in Lloyd’s eyes. “Shit…” Lloyd muttered, wiping away the sweat from his forehead as he walked down the long corridor to Warrior’s room. Surely, the feline would like to joy Lloyd in the square, right? Better than sweating away in a dingy room by yourself.
Warrior’s room was at the very end of the corridor. She picked it that way when Garmadon allowed her to live within the Empire. Due to her living in another world for so long, Warrior lost everything she knew of her home. Hell, she doesn’t know if her old childhood ranch and house still exist in Ignacia Village, so Garmadon and Burr allowed her to stay for as long as she desired. Luckily, Warrior made herself at home. She trusted Garmadon and Lloyd a lot; usually tagging along with them on major issues. Warrior relearned quickly about Ninjago and Lloyd was grateful for that as he could not imagine what she had been through to leave everything behind and go into a new world. To grow up as a soldier, friend, a sister, a foe, and learn to be the aura master just to return to home that wasn’t truly home anymore.
Lloyd knocked lightly on Warrior’s door and waited patiently for a response. Soft shuffling was heard from behind the off white door. Shadows from beneath the door went back and forth in a pacing motion before it stopped abruptly. “Uh…Lloyd? Is that you?”
“It is.”
Click!
Creaking open, the door slowly moved to show Warrior’s scar up face. The feline’s shoulders and chest rose and fell as her pink tongue stuck out between her lips. Heavy but quiet pants escaped her lungs. Lloyd’s mind froze then went into swirling thoughts. Is she sick?
“I’m hot, Lloyd. I’m just fucking hot is all. Don’t panic.”
Oh
Mentally, Lloyd sighed. Ever since Warrior saved him from the Overlord’s mechadragon; he felt like he had to repay her. Make sure she is comfortable as a form of payback. “Is there anything I can do to help?” Warrior shook her head. She looked defeated. Misery in her eye. “Sheesh, I didn’t realize Ninjago could get so hot,” she panted, walking away from the door, wet prints being left behind on the wood floor. Lloyd bit his lip and looked at the feline with disapproval. “How long have you been going through this?” Lloyd asked, his voice more serious than normal and Warrior took note of this immediately.
Looking back at the blonde, Warrior huffed with shrug. “I don’t know,” she replied. “A few days?” Even she didn’t know as it had been far too long since the heatwave started. Annoyed at Warrior’s stoic nature, Lloyd marched up to her with his fists clenched. He wanted to smack some sense into her. To allow him to help her at least once. “War, you could be going through heatstroke!”
“No!” Warrior was too quick with the response and it led Lloyd to understand he wasn’t far off. Plans have changed from a wonderful afternoon walk to keeping his friend from passing out. “Such a lie,” Lloyd muttered back, his hand grabbing Warrior’s bicep with strength that he didn’t think he could do. “Let me go.” He shook his head. “Absolutely not. You’re going to lay down and let me help you!” He pronounced each word clearly. His eyes locked with hers and in defeat, Warrior sighed and hung her head. “Fine.” Warrior shuffled to the queen sized bed and flopped down. It was comedic, but Lloyd held back the laughter. He wanted to prove his point. “Now, I’ll be right back.”
Lloyd looked through the entire palace for fans, towels, and ice. Plenty of servants noticed the ninja’s constant search but didn’t dare interfere as they knew that the once Wyvern Prince was always a little tense when it came to searches. Once everything had been found, Lloyd dampened some of the towels and wrapped the others around ice. Instantly the blonde went back to the feline and began to work. He put the damp towels on her forehead, neck, and legs. Then he puts the ice towels underneath her armpits and between her legs, and finally, Lloyd plugs the fans into the electrical sockets and puts them to the highest setting.
A small sense of relief came across the ninja’s body as he watched Warrior melt into the bed. She was no longer restless and able to sleep. It had seemed she wasn’t able for quite a time. Laying beside Warrior, Lloyd got comfortable, but didn’t touch her. “I guess a summertime snooze wouldn’t be a problem.”
