Work Text:
Crowley was on facebook, of all the creations he had been involved with that was the one he was most proud of. He received many awards from hell regarding the website and his involvement with it.
That day he saw in a random profile a guy from Cambridge who posted daily reasons why he was grateful to be alive. Crowley had already seen posts like that, he had even read articles recommending the activity in question saying that it was good for human health.
"Angel?" he said speaking to Aziraphale that while Crowley had his laptop on the sofa, he was sitting in the armchair with a book in his lap.
"Yes?" Aziraphale said without taking his eyes off the page.
“Tell me the reasons why you are grateful to be alive.”
Aziraphale looked at him.
"What kind of question is that?"
“One motivated by curiosity. Come on answer me, I'm still curious.”
"Right. My books."
"Anything else?"
“The world not ending, of course. Music I think, food, crosswords...you.”
“So that’s where I am, under crossword puzzles?”
“I was just listing as I thought, if it were in order of preference your position would be much higher.”
"Good."
"Second place."
“After books?”
"Yes."
"You're a lousy angel cherishing material things more than someone you've known for six thousand years."
“I know, and you're a pretty nice devil who has his place fixed on things I'm grateful for. The second place.”
“Any chance I can move up to number one?”
"Who knows, give me another six thousand years in your company and maybe you'll rise in rank."
“I can wait that long, which is a few more millennia.”
Crowley went back to fiddling with his laptop, trying to look cool and nonchalant, but Aziraphale could see he was a little hurt by the conversation. Maybe Aziraphale really was a bad angel because instead of feeling guilty he found the whole thing quite endearing and amusing.
"I feel grateful for this." Aziraphale said, starting the conversation again.
“What exactly are you referring to in this case?”
“The time we've spent together and the time we've yet to spend. But I suppose that was already included when I mentioned the world not ending and you.”
“Yeah probably…I feel grateful for that too.”
“I know you do my dear.” Aziraphale decided to put his book aside for the rest of the night and went to kiss his demon before he got any more needy.
Both were very grateful to be alive to experience that moment.
