Chapter Text
Asgard, In exile! After initiating Ragnarök in order to escape the goddess of death – Hela – the god of Thunder Thor leads his people to Midgard in the hopes of establishing New Asgard. On the journey, they are intercepted by the Mad Titan Thanos who seeks the space stone secretly held by the god of mischief Loki. Outgunned and outmanned by an impossible margin, the Asgardian ship sends out a cry for help! A cry intercepted by a nearby Republic fleet…
Ahsoka Tano looked at her wrist, imagining it turning to dust. She had dreamt of such an occurrence happening. She was fighting battle droids alongside her clone troopers, fellow Jedi, and other powerful beings she did not recognize. But then she, the Jedi, and some of the unfamiliar combatants turned to dust, leaving Ahsoka petrified before she woke up in a cold sweat.
The fleet she was a part of, four Venator class Cruisers, was stationed near a hyperspace route near the Knowhere system. They were to remain in position for two standard days before another Republic fleet could arrive to take over patrol. Then they would proceed on the route to Cato Neimoidia and provide reinforcements to the Republic forces stationed there.
Once she entered the bridge, she was astonished to find Anakin and Obi-wan already stationed there, alongside a hologram of Master Yoda. Admiral Yularen was standing nearby, but that was to be expected.
“What’s going on?” Ahsoka asked.
“A great disturbance in the Force I have felt,” Yoda said. “On the move, the war lord Thanos is.”
“Thanos?” Yularen asked. “Are you referring to his recent incursion into the Xandarian sector?”
Xandarian Sector? Ahsoka thought. Xandar and its Nova Corps was a relatively large system of the Outer Rim, dangerously close to Separatist controlled territory.
“Held the Power Stone, Xandar did,” Yoda said.
“That doesn’t sound good,” Anakin grunted.
“Admiral!” a nearby clone trooper called. “We’ve picked up a transmission two parsecs from the Asgardian System.”
“Play it!” Yoda commanded.
“This is the Asgardian refugee vessel Statesman. We’re under assault! Engines are dead. Life support failing. Requesting aid from every vessel within range, we are two jump points out of Asgard. Our crew is made up of Asgardian families! We have very few soldiers here. This is not a warcraft. I repeat, this is not a warcraft!”
“Assaulting the Asgardians, Thanos is!” Yoda said. “Possess the Space Stone, they do.”
“Then we need to intercept them soon!” Obi-Wan said.
“With all due respect, wouldn’t the Separatists be able to reach Knowhere if we leave?” Yularen asked.
“If acquire the Space Stone, Thanos does,” Yoda said. “Bypass your fleet, the Separatists can.” With that, the Hologram ended.
“Trooper!” Anakin said. “Do we have the coordinates from where their call originated?”
“Yes sir!” the Clone trooper answered.
“Admiral! Prepare to deploy the fleet,” Anakin said, turning to leave the bridge. “Make haste to where the Asgardians are! Move!”
“Hear me and Rejoice!” said a figure that seemed out of place in the onslaught taking place aboard the Statesman.
The figure seemed shorter than the other attackers, with a wide round head, a dangling nose, a mouth that extended wide and beyond the confines of the face that supported it. His skin was a light blue with a hint of aqua. He stood on four legs, wore a brown shirt and no pants.
The figure was surrounded by fallen Asgardians, the wreckage of the ship lying all around the floor. Proxima Midnight had her trident pointed at Loki, a previous ally of Thanos, while Corvus Glaive prowled around, looking for Fallen Asgardians who were still alive.
“You have had the privilege of being saved by the great titan,” the figure continued. “You may think this is suffering. No! It is salvation. The universal scales tip towards balance because of your sacrifice. Smile! For even in death, you have become children of Thanos.”
There was a tense moment as Loki cautiously looked towards Thanos, who was standing near a large window overlooking the Sanctuary II, having just bested Thor in Malee combat. “I know what it’s like to lose!” Thanos said at last. He bent down to pick up the fallen Thor, carrying him by his outfit and dragging him at his side as he walked. “To feel so desperately that you’re right, but to fail, nonetheless.”
“Sire!” the figure said. “We have company!”
At that moment, four Venator-class Battle Cruisers emerged from Hyperspace, not far from the scene.
“That ship is the size of the Malevolence!” Yularen muttered to himself, thinking back to the one ship close to the size of the Sanctuary II positioned before them. He was aware of a new vessel the Republic was producing that was almost twice as long as the Venator was currently in production and noticeably wider. However, it would not be deployed for another few months and the Venator would remain the Republic flagship for the foreseeable future.
But even the new Vessels were not as large as the Sanctuary II.
“Open Fire!” he commanded as his fleet began to fire large blue bolts at the massive ship, even as the enemy returned fire.
Meanwhile, Anakin and Obi-Wan recruited Rex and a few 501st Troopers to board the Statesman and see if they could rescue anyone. Ahsoka, meanwhile, would lead a squadron of Clone Pilots against Thanos’ army. Her fleet of Y-Bombers and a few squadrons of ARC-170’s raced to leave the cruiser even as up to five LAAT gunships followed close behind for a bit before turning towards the Statesman.
“Scanners indicate that the Statesman has already been boarded,” Rex told Anakin and Obi-Wan.
“Thanos and his goons are already on board!” Anakin grunted. “This ought to be fun.”
“Anakin and I will move ahead and confront Thanos and his ‘children’”, Obi-Wan said. “Rex, you and your men focus on the Asgardians and getting them onto the gunship!”
“Understood, General!” Rex said.
Their gunships landed in the main hanger bay, where they were immediately made aware of a decent sized squadron of Chitauri guarding the place.
The Chitauri began firing upon Republic troops even as the Jedi ignited their lightsabers and began deflecting Chitauri blaster-fire.
As the Jedi charged at the enemy, Rex crept after them, scoring headshot after headshot. Eventually, the Jedi leapt past the line and continued down the corridor, leaving the Clones to battle with the remaining enemies.
“You could not live with letting Asgard burn,” Thanos said when Anakin and Obi-Wan finally arrived on the scene. “Where did that bring you? Right to me!”
“Actually, it was your hunt for Infinity Stones that caught our attention,” Obi-Wan said. “But saving refugees is always a worthy endeavor.”
“Your heroism is misplaced, Jedi!” Thanos growled.
At this, Anakin immediately leapt bast Loki and the Children of Thanos, right in front of Thanos and Thor. Thanos responded by aiming his gauntlet hand towards Anakin and using the one Infinity Stone he had to blast at the Jedi, forcing Anakin to block the purple fire with his lightsaber. Thanos fired at least two more times at Anakin before a massive green figure, possibly larger than Thanos himself, suddenly appeared and tackled Thanos.
“Well that was easy,” Anakin gasped, relieved of the strain of holding back the blasts Thanos was firing at him. Thor, the person Thanos was holding, staggered to his feet – prompting Anakin to rush up to him.
“You alright?” Anakin asked.
Thor held up his hand. “Give me a few seconds and I’ll be fine! You might want to help your friend there,” he added, gesturing towards Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan had engaged the Children of Thanos and was doing a pretty good job of blocking and evading their strikes. Obi-Wan, for his part, thought back to his fight with Darth Maul and Savage Oppress back on Florrum and was confident that he’ll at least survive his current engagement.
“He seems fine,” Anakin said. "According to Yoda, you guys have the Space Stone!”
“You mean the Tesseract?” Thor asked, as Loki joined them. “We don’t have the Tesseract. It was destroyed on Asgard!”
At this, Loki slowly conjured the Tesseract in his hand.
“You really are the worst, brother!” Thor snarled.
“Worry about that later!” Anakin said. “Right now, we need to get that thing out of here! Problem is,” he continued, looking around and seeing Thanos punching the big Green Guy and Obi-Wan’s clash blocking their only exit. “I can’t figure out how!”
“Unless we somehow beat Thanos and his goons!,” Thor said.
“I trust the green guy can handle it!” Anakin said.
He spoke too soon, for by this point, Thanos lifted the big green guy off the ground and slammed him onto the floor – triumphant in his fight. Obi-Wan, meanwhile, backed up towards Thor, Anakin, and Loki – defensive against the Children of Thanos.
“Do you have a Plan B?” Obi-Wan asked.
Ahsoka, meanwhile, had her squads engage Leviathans and Chitauri Flight-Craft. As the minutes passed, the Flight-Craft proved to be vulnerable to whatever the Republic threw at them – but they were very nimble. The armor on the Leviathans, on the other hand, could tank the bombs form the Y-Wings pretty effectively.
“Bomb the teeth,” one Squadron leader said as his Squadron flew at a Leviathan’s mouth and released their payload. The teeth crumbled and the entire Leviathan’s face was engulfed in bomber fire. One glance made a few second later established that the Leviathan was no longer active.
“Thanos’ space whales are week at the face!” the Clones reiterated towards each other.
“Blue Squadron, engage the enemy ship’s cannons!” Ahsoka commanded as their dogfight drifted closer to the Sanctuary II. “Red Squadron! Focus on the Red Core! Or whatever that thing is!”
It wasn’t long before there were explosions ringing throughout the Sanctuary II.
“Admiral!” Ahsoka said. “Remember what we did over Ryloth?”
Obi-Wan pushed forward against the Children of Thanos. The blue figure, on the other hand, started using Telekinetic powers to wrap Thor, Loki, and Anakin in metal. Anakin, meanwhile, resisted the metal using the Force prompting Thanos to rush towards him and blast him with the Power Stone once again.
All of them were oblivious to the Venator right outside that now eclipsed the Sanctuary II. Or that a massive beam flew from the ship, striking the Sanctuary II and setting off a chain reaction. At least until the Venator passed by. But the Statesman shook, knocking Anakin off balance and enabling the blue figure to wrap Anakin in metal as well.
The Tesseract began flying towards Thanos.
NO! Anakin thought desperately as he tried to use the Force to stop the Tesseract. But Thanos simply walked up to were the Tesseract and broke it, revealing the blue stone inside and adding it to his gauntlet.
Infuriated, even as the Blue Figure laughed, Anakin was able to twirl his lightsaber and toss it towards the laughing Telekinetic – stabbing him.
“Well done, Anakin!” Obi-Wan said. “You just killed a Spongebob character!”
Enraged, Thanos used his new powers to hurl Anakin and Obi-Wan back, burning Anakin’s metal in the process. He then gathered his remaining children around him and ignited the destruction of the Statesman, using the Space stone to depart.
Thor broke free of his restraints while Obi-Wan had to free Loki from his. Anakin rushed past them, seeing one struggling Asgardian and picking him up, using the Force to aide him. The Clone, meanwhile, noticed the destruction around them.
“Got to hurry!” Rex yelled as debris fell around them, even as he carried one of the Asgardians.
“Where’s Sif?” Rex’s Asgardian grunted before passing out.
He managed to get on to the Gunship just in time for the doors to close and the ship to take off.
Anakin, meanwhile, knew it was too late for them, so he conjured a Force-Bubble and held onto the Asgardian (who he later learned was named Heimdall), Obi-Wan, Thor and Loki.
