Work Text:

The night sky never fails to bring a sense of calm towards people. It adds a sense of depth and tenderness when sharing it with someone

*A sense of love, perhaps?* Alhaitham thinks to himself with a hidden agenda ingrained in his thoughts.

A comfortable silence had blanketed the space between him and Kaveh. The fenced area in front of their house had always been a tender place to wind down at night when most of Sumeru is sleeping. Alhaitham has his own sleeping schedule planned out for himself, seldom would he break away from it.

An architect on the other hand, has a sleeping schedule which is almost nonexistent. How can one even manage to stay awake during the day with limited sleep?

These are the many questions that the Scribe will never have the energy nor care to find out himself.

Kaveh leans on the fence, gazing quietly at Alhaitham. "What are you thinking about this time?"

Alhaitham looks back at him, noticing the gaze given to him. "I was wondering what time will you sleep tonight. It's already about to be midnight, yet you still went out of your way to invite me here at this hour."

An annoyed scoff comes out of Kaveh's mouth. "You had all the chances to decline," he softens his stance, "Yet here you are."

No words can accurately describe what true feelings Alhaitham wanted to say. Instead, he slowly inches closer and mimics the same pose Kaveh is in. He reveals a timid smile and does his best to hide it. "Well, there must be an ulterior motive on why I would, don't you think?"

Kaveh actually noticed his shift into a vulnerable demeanor, though Alhaitham does a good job at hiding it and never gets called out for it (if he would, he would simply deny it.) Kaveh is always the first one to recognize it. Secretly, Kaveh adores this bashful side of the cocky Scribe that he argues with everyday.

"Who knows what kind of thought processes and conclusions you come up with," the Architect sighs, "I just wanted to spend this lovely night with someone."

"How very thoughtful of you to choose me out of anyone you know," Alhaitham rolls his eyes sarcastically to complement his remark.

Kaveh snickers then laughs, he laughs about how defensive Alhaitham can get when denying his vulnerability in front of him. While Alhaitham, lovestruck and sickly in-love Alhaitham, watches him. He watches how Kaveh's warm laugh makes his heart set off Burgeon reactions in his chest. Maybe, his real reason why he accepted Kaveh's invite was to share these moments with him by his side.

After the laughing had subsided, Kaveh turns to Alhaitham, accompanied by his glowing smile that rivals the moon, sun, and stars altogether. In an attempt to hide his blushing, Alhaitham turns towards the green scenery that surrounds the vast areas of Sumeru.

Kaveh noticed the not subtle blushing from him and joined Alhaitham with admiring the landscape portrayed in front of them.

Both hadn't noticed it, but their bodies subconsciously began going closer and closer to each other during this time of exchange and brief silence.

He tries not to be as noticeable as Alhaitham's blushing, Kaveh slowly glances at him. He watches him appreciate the mountains, rivers, and other beauties that Sumeru shows gracefully. How the look of a curious child wanting to understand and decipher the world still remains on his face since they were students. Despite their temporary parting of ways, both of them still haven't changed one bit. Along with both still having things they'd want to say with each other, and probably fight over.

"I love looking at this view at night, if you squint, you can see the Nilotpala Lotuses blooming from afar. Tighnari told it to me once while he was helping me find flowers for a client," Kaveh breaks the tranquillity in a soft voice, "It amazes me that surprises are found even when we didn't expect them to be at."

"Recording the events and predicting when the next one will be can benefit you," Alhaitham raises his eyebrows nonchalantly.

"Then it wouldn't be called surprises anymore, would it? Life would be stale if we were to accurately predict what event will happen next."

"It will help accurately predict when a client won't choose your first design though."

"You of all people should know how completely unpredictable others are," Kaveh sneers, "Anywho, look over there."

Distant Nilotpala Lotuses begin blossoming under the pale glow of the moon, contrasting the soft white light with its own yellow light source. Its color complements both the water and waves surrounding it. Leaving one in awe of the spectacular views, especially from a far away place that shows the midnight terrain.

Such a view could only leave the Architect's mind inspired. It filled his creativity and made him itch to go back to his room and sketch out designs. "No matter how many times I see this, its beauty will never fail to leave me amazed."

"I could say the same thing, the only difference is that it's not only Sumeru that I'm referring to."

Kaveh turns to the Scribe and sees a fond smile on his face focused on him.

"That was so corny. I can't believe you just said that to me," Kaveh shakes his head and in return shares the same fondness through his complaint.

Their bodies are almost leaning towards each other at this point, just a small move towards the other and they'll be sharing contact.

"I'll show you what I mean then."

"Wait what-"

Alhaitham tilts himself towards Kaveh's lips, letting his actions speak louder than words.

Kaveh feels like his chest is filled with fire and burning through the forest. He closes eyes and sways himself more towards Alhaitham. It's a feeling that's similar to fireworks setting off in an Inazuman festival. His hands reach Alhaitham's face and cup it to steady each other.

On the other hand, only the feeling of somersaults flutters in Alhaitham's chest. His own hands travel down Kaveh's body and rest on his hips. If only Kaveh would see what's happening inside of him. How the hard-headed Scribe got to kiss him after years of pining.

It only lasts for a few seconds before Kaveh pulls away and stares at Alhaitham realising what they've just done. His fingers touch his own lips, feeling the ghost of their kiss.

Kaveh still feels like he's on fire. All of these feelings and emotions that he can't word out entirely have him unusually quiet. As if still sorting out what to say, or well, describe what exactly he feels to Alhaitham.

All Alhaitham could do was smirk and purposefully tease him. "Oh? Have you finally lost your voice, my dear Light of the Kshahrewar?"

"Shut it!" Kaveh furrows his brows and looks away trying to hide his blushing. "And what do you mean 'my'?"

"Am I not allowed to call you mine?" he smirks again.

"Hearing you say that cheesy pick-up line and do that cheesy smirk makes me want to gag in your face and regret our kiss."

Alhaitham tilts his head, "But you don't regret it exactly."

"Would you like me to?"

A sad pout shows subtly on Alhaitham's face, "Whatever makes you comfortable."

"You're so dramatic." Kaveh smiles then puts a hand on the Scribe's face, playfully pushing him away.

He looks back at Alhaitham's puppy eye pout appearance and laughs. Hearing Kaveh laugh makes it look like the sun is shining through the night sky, at least it looks like it from Alhaitham's point of view.

While he's dazed like this, Kaveh stops and plants a kiss on his sappy roommate. Though, after what they've just done, he probably wouldn't call their relationship just 'roommates' anymore.

A cool breeze brushes Kaveh's skin and leaves a shiver through him. He hugs himself in an attempt to create some heat. "Would you like to go back inside? It's getting quite cold."

"Not for me." Alhaitham smiles.

Kaveh rolls his eyes and takes Alhaitham's hand, leading them back to their home.

Notes:

Big thanks to Ash who beta read this and accidentally slapped their glasses off

I hope i managed to translate their dynamic into my own words, theyre just so kdhfkdjfkdkdkdjkf

No, you cannot see the nilotpala lotuses from that distance in game

For my next fic, I'll go for a zhongluc fic since they're an all-time favorite ship of mine and I've always wanted to properly write one and publish it here
