Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Being called into Perry Whites office was a big deal the usually meant either Lois, Clark, and Jimmy were in trouble for blatantly going awol in an attempt to uncover a wild truth that required a large amount of evidence to be confirmed. Or it was one of the bread occasions where Mr. White was giving a trio a chance to prove they had what it takes to be real journalists.

This time it was neither.

As Kat Grant sat on the edge of Perry’s desk checking her hair and makeup in a compact mischievously humming to herself as Perry rubbed his temples it was clear to Lois that today they would all be stuck doing grunt work.

“Alright,” Perry let out in an attorney to garner everyone’s attention in the office, “ I’m going to need everyone on their best behavior this week. And that goes double for you three.” He jesters to the interns before returning to the point.

“The planet will be hosting billionaire Bruce Wayne for the week as he and some of his scientists have requested a look at all the information that has been gathered about the tech weapons that have been popping up in metropolis.”

Lois could feel Clark stiffen at the mention of the weapons just as the large man began to speak, “why would bruce Wayne have any interest in tech weapons? Hasn’t eaten tech been focusing on infrastructure and appliances in Gotham”

Lois spoke up next, “besides that, Bruce Wayne is a well known airhead who has been caught on camera multiple times not knowing how to operate his own tech. And his personal life as a playboy put him in a very similar situation to Anthony Ivo.”

Clark flinched at the memory of Ivo. And then it was Jimmy’s turn, “there is the popular gotham theory that Bruce Wayne is the mysterious Gotham vigilante Batman.”

Lois face palmed “jimmy there is no way that Batman is real, what kinda powers would a they have? Echo location and vampire fangs.”

“Maybe Lois but from eye witnesses and police’s reports he seams to only appear at night and he steal the bones of goons and henchmen in the shadows before leaving his own rouge gallery tied up and hanging upside down from the rafters.”

Clark shuttered horrified, “HE STEALS BONES!?”

“ENOUGH,” Perry bellowed causing Kat to sloppily drag he lipstick across her lip to her check as well as regain the interns attention.

“I will have none of that while Bruce Wayne and his ward are here. Mr. Wayne has expressed interest in purchasing stock in the daily planet, and has agreed to have an exclusive interview with Kat about his personal life in exchange for him and his scientists to have a sneak peak at some of the planets cut stories about the tech that has been appearing in metropolis, Your cut stories and photos.”

That shut the trio up, but Kat perked up and finally decided to put in her two cents.

“PERRY,” she exclaimed excitedly, “ you didn’t tell me that the kid would be here. Do you know what kind of stories he could tell. He lives in a big mansion all alone with a billionaire playboy. And from my experience kids have little to no filter.”

At this point Kat was nearly jumping out of her designer heals with excitement. “THIS COULD BE THE STORY OF MY CAREER.”

Lois muttered something about the how that doesn’t say much about here career in general under her breath as Clark spoke again. “Wait why would Bruce Wayne bring a kid to an interview about his love life?”

“No one will be interviewing the kid about Bruce Wayne’s affairs, from the emails I have exchanged with him to set up this interview it sounds like the kid is a trouble maker and needs to be looked after while Bruce give his exclusive. That’s where you three come in. Your job is to make sure that the kid doesn’t climb on any of the furniture or swing from the ceiling.” Perry replied, “And if he says anything note worthy write it down and maybe it can be published,”

“Wait a minute there is no way the kid will actually swing from the lights, Right?” Clark asked with concern growing in his voice. He, Lois, and jimmy knew that Clark could catch a kid if he fell, but that could cause too many questions to be asked. And on queue Perry slid a Gotham tabloid across the desk for the interns to read the front page story.

Wayne Ward Performs Gymnastics Routine on Priceless Chandelier

The picture on the cover clearly showing what looked to be a twelve year old swinging from an ornate lighting fixture in the middle of a Wayne gala. And a very tired looking Bruce Wayne watching with a look of panic and concern as it happened.

What were they getting into? Clark thought as Lois and jimmy enthusiastically agreed with a, “you got it chief, and they made their way back to the newspaper morgue.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Summary:

Bruce and Dick go over their plan on the way to the daily planet.

Notes:

Warning I’m not the most well versed in early batman and robin interactions so bare with me.

Chapter Text

The limousine glided across the smooth pavement of metropolis with an ease that is hard to find in Gotham. But, Bruce remembers these streets before the flying men and killer robots. It was starting to remind him of his home town, if it lacked the charming atmosphere that matched his dark and brooding ascetic.

“Hey bruce do you think we will actually get to see Superman?” Asked the hyperactive 13 year old that was tapping a a beat on the leather of the seats.

“According to the scans of the city, Superman frequently visited the daily planet. Along with two apartment buildings and several local coffee shops and bodegas. And based on post of residents for both apartment buildings that I just purchased, I have narrowed the identity down to three interns of the daily planet that live within walking distance of all but one of those other locations.”

Dick looked up in surprise at the amount of recon that Bruce had done. “That is an excessive amount for stalking for a guy who saves cats out of trees.” Dick has stopped tapping in the seat at this point as his guardian was carefully reviewing the plan to get all the information they could about the Superman and the tech that has emerged Gothams neighbor city.

Bruce was paranoid before the tech started to inspire his own rouges to amp of their tech. Now he was planning on doing something dick never thought he would be capable of doing with anyone outside of the gothic hell bubble that was his city.

Consider the possibility of reaching out to other heroes.

“And I would say that it is far to little research done on someone who can shoot lasers out of his eyes and can fly at super sonic speeds”

“Ooh is that a hint of concern in your voice, and here I thought you weren’t gonna start showing emotions until you had to fake them for the press. Besides I think you’re just being paranoid.” Dick replied with a smile on his face as Bruce continued to get all his brooding before he had to play up his alter egos party boy life style.

“Paranoid is what keeps Gotham safe, and there is more to this then it appears on the surface. The original Superman article wasn’t written in the styles of the reporters listed in the byline. Even if it was a collaboration the it was far superior to anything that Steve Lombard, Kat Grant, or Ronnie Troupe has ever published. Someone else wrote that story and they just put their names on it. Meaning there is someone at the daily planet that has more information on those weapons and Superman.”

“Sounds about right, so to review I’m to figure out the motives of Superman while you find the info you want on the metropolis freeze ray for a better understanding of how to stop the recent robberies.” The car began to slow as it approached the building.

“That and gather any info on the other tech incase someone else from Arkham gets any ideas.”

With those last words the limo gently stopped and Bruce Wayne plastered on an aloof smile and made his entrance. His ward in tow who was eyeing the lighting fixtures and thinking ‘I bet they could hold my weight.’
