Tori Spring and Car Rides

Summary:

a car ride. a lifetime. who's to tell the difference.

Notes:

two: mentions of suicide. nothing worse than you'd get from the boon solitaire

Work Text:

I was in the car, on the far right. Ollie was in the middle, with Charlie to his left. We had another two hours until we got home, and my phone had just died. Fuck. I didn't bring my IPod with me either, so I had nothing to do. Ollie was playing his console, and Charlie was texting his friends, Mom was driving, and Dad was reading. I looked out the window, watching the raindrops fall. I missed my bed, my phone, my laptop. But it broke, and now I have to save up for a new one. I guess a shitty person like me deserves that, though. I lean my head against the door, hair falling in front of my eyes. Some Journey song comes on and I mouth along the lyrics, wishing I wasn't here. They're laughing and smiling and I'm just a blank slate. I close my eyes, letting my thoughts take me away. Away to a fictional world, but that doesn't work. So I die. Not literally, to my disappointment. But I imagine a world where I do. Charlie is crying, and Dad is explaining to Ollie through tears. Mom doesn't do anything. She doesn't care about me, I don't think. Becky would probably be upset for a few days, then find a new friend to replace me. Eventually, no one will even remember I existed. Sooner than I realize, we're back at the house. We shuffle in, and I go directly to my room to plug in my phone. I put a CD in my player and lay down on my bed, completely in the dark. The first few notes of Airbag play, and I'm calm. Well, not calm enough that I don't want to kill myself, but still. It's better. I fall asleep.
