Work Text:
“Ena.”
Mafuyu’s voice cut through the room like a knife through butter; silent, precise - harsh.
Ena looked up from her sketchbook, chocolate eyes fixating on the girl across the room. Mafuyu was sat up against Ena’s bedroom wall, knees close to her chest with a notepad leaning against them.
“Hm?” Ena swivelled around in her desk chair, leaving the sketchbook on her desk as she made eye contact with Mafuyu. Dull, lifeless eyes bore into Ena’s own. “What’s up?”
Mafuyu fidgeted, a rare look of nervousness written across her features. She placed her notebook on the floor next to her.
“Come sit with me.” She said, an unusual softness in her voice.
Eyebrow raised, Ena pulled herself up from her chair; bones cracking as she did so. She’d been sitting for far too long, anyway. A change of scenery was needed.
She sat down to Mafuyu’s left, mimicking the others body language as she pulled her own knees up to her chest, brushing slightly against Mafuyu’s own.
“How are the lyrics coming along?” Ena asked, fingers playing with the hem of her skirt.
Mafuyu shrugged, nudging the notebook with her foot. “They’re fine. Nothing special. I… Find my mind is preoccupied at the moment with other things.”
“Oh?” Unusual. Mafuyu was the most focused in the group, that’s for sure. “Like what?”
“… … …” Mafuyu shifted, turning so she was facing Ena completely. “I can’t stop thinking about how much I want to kiss you.”
Ena’s cheeks burned a bright shade of red at the sudden gesture. Her eyes shifted from looking at Mafuyu and down to the floor beneath them, taking in every single etching of the wooden floor. Her heart beat so loudly in her ears that it was almost deafening.
It was like the world stopped, in that moment.
Ena let our a shaky breath. This… Was not going to be a pretty conversation.
“Hah… Jeez, Mafuyu… Your jokes are getting better.” She stumbled out, her whole body feeling hot and sticky with anxiety.
“I wasn’t joke.” Mafuyu said, bluntly; frowning. “I want to kiss you.”
“Mafuyu… You know we can’t, right?” She finally looked at the other girl.
The look on Mafuyu’s face was enough to break her heart. Pain didn’t look good on the lyricists face - the way her eyes had widened ever so slightly with a thin gloss over, her eyebrows knitted together as a small frown lay on her lips.
“I know.” Came that same, dull reply. “But I want to. Please just… Just once?”
Ena let out another sigh. Doing this… They couldn’t. Not with Mafuyu’s home life, not with her own plate of problems.
Not when Ena already had a partner.
“… Fine.” The artist muttered. “One kiss. But that’s it, we-“
“- We can’t. I know.” Shuffling, she moved in front of Ena, looking down on her. “Close your eyes.”
Ena looked up, chocolate brown pools meeting soulless pools of purple before she closed her eyes. Her breathing hitched in her throat as she felt Mafuyu’s hand come up and rest across her eyes - her hands were always cold; unnerving.
But her lips were warm, soft as they brushed against Ena’s own slightly chapped ones. Their bodies seemed to have been made for one another as their lips perfectly locked.
Emotions seemed to get the better of Ena as Mafuyu’s palm became wet; tears dribbling down the artists cheeks out of sheer guilt for what they were doing.
But if it was so bad, why did it feel so good?
Mafuyu kept to her word. One kiss. One lingering, longing kiss. One kiss that said a thousand words, that contained more emotions than Mafuyu would ever be able to express.
One kiss that simply said “I love you. I’m sorry.”
She sat back on her knees, pulling her hand away from Ena’s eyes.
The artist blinked away her tears, her arm coming up and wiping them away on her cardigan.
Wordlessly, Mafuyu sat back next to her, picking up her notebook once more.
The words flowed easily onto the paper, now.
