Work Text:
Izuku’s lips were slick against his own, warm and welcoming just like Katsuki had always imagined. They felt like they were made to be pressed against his own like this. Or maybe that’s just Katsuki’s imagination talking, since he never thought in a million years he would be in this position with his best friend.
See, before they were here, making out on Katsuki’s couch in the middle of a weekday after work, they were at ‘The Before’, as he called it.
Those were the times before they were anything more than friends who hung out every chance they got and spent an awfully large amount of time at work together. Katsuki never was as close to someone as he was with Izuku in this time of his life. His younger self would probably be throwing a fit, but the him of today thought there was no one better to call his best friend.
So how did they get here now?
That’s a long story, but luckily Katsuki is always in the mood to tell it.
After they would graduate from UA, Katsuki and Izuku had a plan.
This plan included them starting at the same agency, most likely Endeavor’s, and working their way up together to eventually create their own agency.
Their idea began after the war with One For All and Shigaraki, after finding out that they held a mutual respect for one another and a bond that could never be broken. They had been through hell and back for one another and Katsuki would be damned if Izuku tried another stunt like he did that first year to, in his words, ‘keep him safe.’
What a dumbass.
So after they made up post-war, they became friends, moving on to become best friends throughout their second and third years. And hence, their plan was formed.
Of course, Todoroki was also somewhat in on it, although he had no plans to join them at their agency once that was established. His plan, or rather an offer from his father, was to one day take over Endeavor’s agency since the old man wasn’t getting any younger. So Todoroki thought about the offer for their final two years of school and he eventually accepted, saying the offer was too good to let go, which Katsuki had to agree.
Izuku wasn’t upset by the fact though, instead just told Katsuki like it was meant to be the two of them. Like somehow, all those years back when they were four years old, Izuku had somehow known they were eventually going to be one of the most renowned hero duos that Japan, maybe even the world, would come to know.
And that is where their story begins. At an agency the two had founded together, just about to start their journey together.
They had a party for the grand opening of their agency where all of their former classmates were invited, even Mineta surprisingly. Although, Katsuki is keeping and eye on him because he does not need a repeat of their end of high school party. Just don’t ask.
The party was full of drinks, food, people, and loud music to keep them all entertained all night. Katsuki and Izuku always stayed near one another though, talking to their friends and the sidekicks they hired for their agency together. They moved around one another like a dance they long ago mastered a long time ago.
Later that night, when everyone was gone and it was just the two of them cleaning up, they reminisced, talking about their past and how exactly they had gotten this far. They kept their voices quiet, like they were trying to keep them from drifting away with the wind for someone else to hear.
Up until a few weeks ago things were going well.
Their agency was a huge success and they had tons of supporters both in their city and around the country, most likely due to all the popularity they gained in high school on top of the following they got while they were sidekicks under Endeavor’s agency. They often got called into huge top secret missions and were some of the first ones the hero commission would contact when there was a particularly difficult villain that needed to be defeated.
Things were, dare Katsuki say, nice .
Izuku and Katsuki were talked about a lot in media outlets and on social media since their hero partnership is unparalleled by any other duo in the industry. They have countless fan accounts dedicated to each of them. Izuku could never shut up about how crazy it was that he had people following him just like he had done with All Might. Sometimes he didn’t believe it was real and, frankly, Katsuki had to agree with the nerd.
They often hung out with one another outside of work too. They found solace with one another and had learned how to comfort the other like it was second nature. No one understands quite what you’re going through like the person who is by your side day in and day out.
They had a routine, but it all changed one night at a rare get together for their high school class.
“Hey, Midoriya!” Kaminari yells from across the room, effectively cutting off Izuku from telling Ochaco about the villain he and Katsuki had faced a few days ago. Kaminari also grabs Katsuki’s attention, who is trying and failing at hiding in the corner of the room away from any one bothering him.
“What is it?” Izuku turns his full attention to Kaminari and his surrounding posse of Mina, Jiro, and Sero.
“Come join our game!” Kaminari shouts, giddy at the prospect of them playing party games again like they used to in high school. “You too, Kacchan!” and Katsuki wants to kill him for still using that stupid nickname.
Izuku, always too eager to please, hurried over to the others, grabbing Katsuki’s arm on the way over and dragging him too “What are we playing?”
“We’re playing never have I ever!” Mina screeches.
“Okay!” Izuku matches her enthusiasm, “Sounds fun.”
Katsuki just rolls his eyes, “Tch, you’re just too nice to say anything else. We practically know everything about each other already, fuckers. We almost got killed together on a daily basis.”
“That’s not true, Kacchan.” Izuku pouts.
“You know it is, nerd.” Katsuki ruffles his hair fondly, turning to go back to the kitchen to get away from whatever absurdity is about to ensure. “I will not be participating but have fun.”
“Aw, Kats!,” Mina shouts, throwing her arms around him to try and draw him back in, “You’re no fun. Just because we all basically grew up together doesn’t mean we gotta stop playing fun games!”
“You say ‘fun games’ but all I hear is dumbass games.” Katsuki monotones before turning around and escaping to the kitchen. He doesn’t listen as they explain the rules to the rest of the class who joined, instead he finds solace in the kitchen. That is, until Jiro walked in not even a minute later.
She’s always been one of his (secret) favorites just because of how calm she is in comparison to the rest of the loveable, and he uses that term loosely, idiots in their group of friends. How she puts up with Kaminari’s stupidity on a daily basis is beyond Katsuki.
“Staying away from the idiot parade, Bakugou?” She asks over a sip of her beer.
Katsuki gets his own beer out of the fridge, leaning on the counter on the opposite side of the kitchen, taking a sip of the drink before replying sarcastically, “You know me so well.”
“Even Midoriya couldn’t get you to stay?” She teases.
Katsuki just shrugs, “He can’t make me do shit I don’t wanna do.”
“See, you say that but you know some of us actually have a brain,” She takes a drink, “You’re softer with him than anyone else, even Kirishima.”
“So what? I’ve known the twerp since we were in diapers.” Katsuki can feel his defenses rising.
Jiro shrugs, backing off a bit, “Just stating an observation.”
They continue taking sips in silence after that, occasionally broken by the excited chants and laughs of their friends in the other room. Katsuki usually hates coming to these kinds of parties and he’d rather die than admit that to his friends. They probably know anyway, all of them are able to see through his angry facade after all these years.
“You know,” Jiro tentatively starts, “It isn’t a bad thing.”
“What isn’t?”
Jiro smiles at him over her drink, “That Midoriya makes you soft.”
“Huh?” He starts, ready to blast into another argument that he ain’t soft before Jiro raises her hand to halt him and continues.
“I’m just saying , it’s nice to see that you’re capable of feeling things other than annoyance and anger.” She shrugs, indifferent.
Katsuki sits on those words for a moment, trying to figure out a way to respond to that but he can’t think of a single thing. Just because he’s soft with Deku doesn’t mean shit. He’s known the twerp for forever and he respects his work as a hero.
For him, there really are just three ways of existing.
There’s anger, mostly when he’s working on the job and it’s directed towards the villains he captures everyday. Then there’s annoyance, which he mostly feels when he is in direct contact with any other human being, including each of his friends.
And then there’s him when he’s by himself.
Contrary to popular belief, he can be calm and quiet, but that mostly goes hand in hand with him being away from anyone else and being alone at his house. When they were in school it consisted of him being locked away in his room, away from the constant bickering of all his classmates.
Of course, there were exceptions to the rules of Katsuki’s existence. And, coincidentally, they all seem to correlate with the existence of one Midoriya Izuku as well.
Izuku was the only person that brought out the calm in Katsuki when he was around others. He wasn’t sure what it is about the nerd that made it possible though. Maybe it was because they’ve known one another for so long or maybe it’s because they had a mutual respect for one another after every horrible thing they’ve gone through together.
And there is a lot. The list is endless at this point.
Either way, they’re now extremely close friends. They hang out almost every single day, even when they aren't working together. One of them would find themselves going to the other’s apartment with takeout in hand to just hang out and chat, maybe catch up on the superhero dramas they watch together.
So that’s why now, as Jiro is shoving it straight into his face that she notices that Izuku makes Katsuki act differently, it must be clear to every single person in their class that they know how soft Deku makes him. Whatever, the world already knows they’re best friends so what’s it to them that Kastuki acts differently around him. It isn’t a bad thing.
“Whatever you say, Ears.” He states simply, no bite in his tone whatsoever. Jiro just smiles cryptically, sipping her beer without a word as Katsuki pushes off the counter to go back into the living room.
When he walks in, no one even acknowledges his existence, far to lost in their childish game.
“You’re telling me you’ve never used your quirk in the bedroom?!” Kaminari shouts in disbelief, almost making Katsuki do a 180 degree turn to waltz right back into the kitchen. Almost.
On the other side of their makeshift circle, Sero shrugs with his cheeks lightly dusted red. “I’ve never really thought about it, to be honest. But now that you’ve pointed it out I can see why you’d think that.”
“Todoroki won’t even know what’ll hit him.” Mina barks out in laughter, followed by the rest of the group and Sero’s face turning even more red.
Todoroki, on the other hand, is entirely clueless to what everyone is insinuating per usual, “What does that mean? What will he do to our bedroom?”
At that, Katsuki snickers lightly. When it comes to Todoroki being clueless about something he just can’t help it, it’s his favorite pastime.
Izuku must’ve heard him somehow, fucking nerd, and he immediately zones in on him, shouting, “Kacchan!” with a big smile loud enough to alert all their friends about Katsuki’s reappearance.
“We gotta get going, Deku, before you get drunk and cry about All Might.” He states, ignoring the chorus of booing from all of their friends.
“That was one time!” He whines, slowly rising from his seat next to Todoroki and Kirishima.
“What, do you have to patrol early tomorrow or something? I thought we all had this weekend off,” Mina pouts off to the side of the room, a little chorus of yeahs following her from the others around the room.
“We all did agree to take this weekend off.” Todoroki points out unhelpfully.
Iida stands from his spot on the couch, flailing his arms in his typical robotic movements, “Maybe we can all learn from Bakugou and Midoriya’s determination to stick to a regular sleep schedule. I, for one, find it admirable that they have the self control to leave a class get together before the rest of us.”
Midoriya laughs at them, clearly buzzed off whatever alcohol Mina and Kaminari shoved into his hands, “We kind of picked up a shift...”
“Yeah so don’t wait up, extras.” Katsuki grabs Izuku's hand, helping him stand up the rest of the way, ignoring the smile and small thank you Izuku directs towards him.
Katsuki makes his way to the door, waiting patiently so Izuku has the time to hug every person in attendance, before putting on their shoes and leaving. It’s a nice night to walk, not too cold or too hot and the city has become a lot safer too in recent years after the defeat of All for One and the rest of the league.
“I miss when we were all together all the time.” Izuku breaks the silence, looking up at the sky while he reminisces.
Katsuki hums in agreement. “Yeah, I know.”
“I’m glad to see Todoroki and Sero are doing well after moving in together. It’s a pretty big step in their relationship.” Izuku thinks out loud.
“I don’t get how Sero can put up with half and half’s cluelessness.”
“Kacchan!” Izuku lightly slaps his arm, “You know he isn’t that bad.”
“Says you. Remember when you used to be into him.” He teases.
Izuku's mouth opens and closes a few times, blushing a deep red that makes Katsuki snort, “That was so long ago, stop bringing it up!”
“I can’t help it, it’s just fun to turn you all red like this.” Katsuki bumps their shoulders together.
“Whatever,” Izuku grumbles, stumbling a bit from Katsuki’s push.
“Oh, come on. It’s funny,” Katsuki hits his shoulder with his own again, " Are you staying at mine or going back to your own place?”
“I’ll just stay at yours,” Izuku sighs, looking up at the night sky, “Too far away to walk all the way to my place and I’m tired,” He whines.
“You’re just lazy,” Katsuki points out.
“Nuh uh.”
“Then what is it then, nerd?”
Izuku looks at him, smiling wide, “It’s because Kacchan makes the best breakfast!”
“Whatever,” Katsuki rolls his eyes, “All you do is abuse my ability to cook.”
“It’s what friends are for, isn’t it?”
Katsuki just sighs in defeat. Of course , he’ll making fucking Deku breakfast. The nerd already knows that since Katuki knows he can’t cook and he’d rather him eat his food than whatever store bought shit he picks up.
They finish their walk in silence, passing familiar storefronts and apartment buildings that lead the way to Kastuki’s own apartment. Neither of them have gotten to the point where they can afford penthouses or anything of that nature so they just live like any other civilian would.
Izuku got a rattier apartment closer to their workplace for ‘convenience’ is what he told him. Katsuki just thinks the nerd doesn’t want to lose any sleep he doesn’t have to. But since Izuku is a top hero anyway it’s not like safety of the neighborhood is either of their top concerns.
Katsuki, on the other hand, cared more for his surroundings and picked a nicer place a little further away from the hustle and bustle of downtown where their company was. It wasn’t the nicest apartment building by far, but unlike Izuku’s, it had paint on the walls that wasn’t peeling off and a functioning stove top that got its fair share of usage.
That’s why they often found themselves in this routine after a night out with their friends from high school. And it always went somewhat like this:
Izuku and Katsuki would leave together since they usually patrolled together the next day and held one another accountable, being hero partners and all. They would start their trek home, where Izuku would start getting more and more tired despite how awake he was at the party. At that point, they both knew Izuku would stay at Katsuki’s place since it was closer to where they all usually gathered. Katsuki would make them some sort of food, typically ramen or fried rice, force Izuku to drink a shit ton of water, and promptly let the nerd fall asleep on the couch while he retired to his own bed.
Recently though, Izuku has gotten the courage to leave the couch in the middle of the night and make his way into Katsuki’s room and join him in the bed.
The first night it happened, Katsuki was his usually angry self when he found out but quickly gave up after Izuku sleepily told him it was more comfortable than the couch so now whenever it happens (which is every time Izuku stays over) Katsuki has just given up on fighting it.
He’s a weak man and he knows it.
And that’s exactly where Katsuki finds himself the next morning, waking up to a still snoring Izuku that had crept his way into his bed sometime in the night. He had wormed his way closer to Katsuki than he had ever been before, his face just centimeters away from Katsuki’s own.
This is probably the closest Katsuki had ever been to Izuku now that he thinks about it, and he can’t help but wonder if the other has always looked this… peaceful .
Katsuki was never one for looks, always looking for something deeper in other people. He can say that, yes, objectively Izuku is cute with very boyish charms, but he didn’t care about that. He cared that Izuku was one of the strongest and most determined people that he knew, besides himself of course.
His disinterest in looks though still didn’t stop Katsuki from studying the man’s face while he slept just a few centimeters from his own.
He eyed the curves of Izuku’s face and the way his eyelashes brush against the apples of his cheeks. The way Izuku snores so quietly that you would have to be this close to even hear it. How at peace he looks compared to his usual stressed self while he’s at work or the smiling mess he always seems to be when he’s around others.
Katsuki considers himself lucky to get to see Izuku this vulnerable, especially after all the shit he put him through in middle school and the early days of their high school years. A normal person would have never looked his way again, but Izuku is anything but normal in so many more ways than one.
But after Izuku ran away to face the league alone and Katsuki had to organize a manhunt to find him, things changed for the better. They first became somewhat friends, then to actual friends, and somehow along the way they turned into best friends sometime during their third year.
And now here they are, as hero partners under a brand new agency they started together, spending practically every hour of every day together. They knew everything about each other, knew how to fight alongside the other better than any other hero duo in the world could. They knew each other’s biggest secrets, biggest regrets, and probably have seen the other at their worst but they accepted it from each other in stride and never held their past over one another.
They were inseparable and all of Japan knew it.
Movement in the bed causes Katsuki’s attention to return back to the present, looking down at Izuku as he wakes up slowly. He tries not to be too creepy but Katsuki can’t ignore the way the other’s nose wrinkles in annoyance before one of his eyes peaks open the slightest bit, taking a second to focus on Katsuki.
Izuku’s eyes shoot open quickly after figuring out their proximity, Katsuki can see the panic growing behind the other’s eyes as his thoughts must be going a mile a minute. He decides now is probably a good time to move before Izuku thinks he was just lying here staring at him for who knows how long.
“Sorry, Ka-”
“About time yo-”
They move at the same time, trying to get up from the bed, but due to the proximity something else happens entirely. Something Katsuki never saw coming in a million years.
Both of them move forward to get up, pushing up on their arms. In their movements, they both moved slightly at a forward angle towards one another, meaning they were quite literally leaning into one another’s space. In hindsight, they must’ve misjudged the actual distance between them or maybe just weren’t paying attention enough to know what was about to happen.
Whatever was the cause though isn’t important. What is important is that in the middle of them speaking over one another and getting up, Katsuki’s lips brush Izuku’s in what would look like a kiss to anyone who witnessed it.
In layman’s terms, Katsuki was kissing Izuku .
It only lasted about a fraction of a second before Katsuki and Izuku were pulling back from one another. They sat there in the bed, looking at each other completely speechless. Katsuki was pretty sure he wasn’t even breathing.
He had just accidentally kissed his best friend.
The one who was still half asleep and staring at him from about two feet away with a bright red face and a gleam in his eyes that Katsuki couldn’t read.
What. The. Fuck .
He’s the first to react after the fact, immediately standing up and making a beeline for the bathroom without so much as a glance in Izuku’s direction. He locks the door, something he never does when Izuku is there, and turns at the mirror to stare at himself in horror. He looks crazy, like he just kissed his best friend by accident and is now hiding in the bathroom, because, shit, that’s exactly what he’s doing.
“Oh fuck,” He whispers to himself, “Shit. Shit shit shit shit.”
He gently touches his lips, feeling the ghost of Izuku’s lips still and thinks about what he can do to remedy the situation. I mean, it was an accident. And, technically , it was Izuku’s fault.
Right?
Katsuki knows he could just default to his usually angry self to simply ignore the situation and blame Izuku like he used to do when they were teens. But, really, would that do anything conducive to the situation?
The nerd probably is scripting up an apology speech now in his stupid brain about how sorry he is that this happened and Katsuki knows he cannot handle that right now. There’s no way he can bring this up or act upset about it without Izuku going into some kind of tangent so that idea is completely off the table.
So that means the best thing to do was to act like it never happened in the first place. That had to be it.
He’ll just walk out there like it's any other morning and just ignore the fact that him and his best fucking friend in the entire world did not just kiss by complete accident.
Easy.
A few moments after formulating his plan, Katsuki exits the bathroom after flushing the toilet without even using it just to make it seem like he actually went in there for a reason other than to freak out.
What he didn’t expect is for the word vomit to immediately come out of Izuku’s mouth barely a second after stepping foot into the bedroom once again.
“Kacchan!” Izuku practically screams, “I’m so sorry! I didn’t know how close I was to you and I just got up so carelessly, I’m so sorry! I hope you’re not mad at me, I didn’t mean to do it I promise. I can leave right no-”
“Shut it, nerd,” Katsuki sighs, “It’s fucking fine, I know you didn’t mean it.”
Izuku looks up, mouth still forming around the unspoken words he had in his mind. “A-are you sure?”
Katsuki looks up at the ceiling incredulously, “I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it, Deku.”
“R-right.”
Katsuki stares at Izuku while he thinks, seeing the red that dusts his cheeks and liking the way it stands out so much against his pale skin and freckles. He commits the sight to memory before he blinks his eyes a few times to refocus on the situation at hand.
“Well, get up. We still have to go to work, Deku. Or have you forgotten that too?”
“Right!”
The awkwardness between them is palpable but Katsuki does not have the patience to deal with it this morning. It’s already off to a weird start so the sooner the nerd starts acting normal, the sooner Katsuki can be at peace with himself again.
The rest of their day is uneventful.
Well, eventful in that they spent the entire day chasing villains and saving citizens. But uneventful in the fact that neither of them wanted to even mention a single thing about what happened that morning. They were both content in acting like nothing had ever happened.
And well, Katsuki loved that for once the nerd didn’t want to talk about it like he usually did with their problems. He hates remembering his own embarrassing moments and reliving them in his head so the sooner he forgets about it, the sooner he can continue on with his life.
As the day wore on, Katsuki thought less and less about what had happened that morning, eventually letting it slip his mind completely without him even noticing. He can’t bring himself to remember why he was so embarrassed earlier that morning, or even wonder why Izuku was acting so weird around him and keeping his distance. The nerd would get over whatever it was eventually he guesses.
The kiss was completely out of his mind by the time they were getting ready to leave for work so he didn’t even think when he asked Izuku the next question.
“Are you coming over again tonight?” Katsuki asked Izuku as they exited the locker room of their agency, having just changed from their hero costumes to their civilian clothes.
“I-I figured you wouldn’t want me to,” Izuku glances away from Katsuki nervously.
Katsuki tilts his head at the other, “Why the fuck would you think that? You come over almost every night so what the hell is different now?”
That got Izuku’s attention as he finally looks at Katsuki with an equally confused face, “But what about…” he trails off.
“What about what?” Katsuki asks in irritation, trying to remember what Izuku is referring to.
“You don’t remember? It was literally this morning, Kacchan!”
And wow, Izuku sounds mad now.
Katsuki thinks some more, putting his first against his lips as he thinks and it all comes rushing back to him. He remembers the ghost of something touching his lips and- OH.
It feels like a cold bucket of water was dumped on him as he remembers the accidental kiss and how he ran away right afterwards. His mind is screaming at him, asking how he could have forgotten about that?! No wonder Izuku is mad.
“Oh,.” Katsuki breathes out.
“Yeah oh . How could you forget that?”
“I-I don’t know. I just didn’t want to think about it so it left my mind between fighting villains and patrolling today I guess,” Katsuki offers as an excuse.
“Well I’ve been going over it in my head all day! I can’t believe you just forgot. I don’t think I ever could because I literally kissed the lov- thebestfriendi’veeverhad .” Izuku says that last part quickly, his face becoming as red as a tomato. “Like how embarrassing is that.” Izuku lets out the fakest laugh Katsuki has ever heard.
“Well,” Katsuki just grimaces at the memory of himself rushing towards the bathroom that morning like a wimp, “It’s embarrassing so...”
“How could you just forget though?” Izuku exasperates.
And the realization that the nerd has been thinking about it all day gives Katsuki a kick of confidence that he never has felt before. Izuku has been thinking about him all day? About the fact they had accidentally kissed when he should’ve been focused on saving civilians?
Katsuki can’t help the sadistic side of himself. He wants to see how far he can push the nerd.
Katsuki just smirks, “What? Did you like kissing me that much, nerd? Couldn’t get it off your mind?”
Izuku’s face turns completely red at the words, his mouth opening and closing like a fish searching for air. He eventually starts shaking his head and swinging his arms in front of himself in a defensive front while Katsuki just watches it all go down with a smile on his face.
The idiot’s blushing and stuttering gives Katsuki strength to take the teasing up a notch and he soon finds himself leaning in closer to Izuku. He leans down to Izuku’s height, putting his face just inches away from Izuku’s very red face.
Izuku halts his movements and Katsuki can hear just how quickly the other is breathing. From this close he can see just how far down his blush travels as Katsuki not-so-subtly looks through the small gap between Izuku’s shirt and his body.
“W-what are y-you doing, Kacchan?” Izuku stutters out eventually, audibly gulping.
Katsuki smirks, quickly glancing from Izuku’s eyes down to his lips and back up, making sure Izuku saw every movement clearly. “Just seeing how much you didn’t like kissing me.”
“I n-never said I d-didn’t like it..” Izuku trails off, trying to inch his way away from Katsuki, who just follows him the more he moves backwards.
Once Izuku hits the wall, Katsuki grins triumphantly. He places his hand against the wall, right above Izuku’s left shoulder and next to his head, effectively cornering the other man.
“So you’re saying you like it then?” Katsuki smirks again, feeling like a cat chasing an all too willing mouse.
“K-Kacchan!” And oh, he even squeaks out like a mouse, Katsuki notices.
Izuku places his hands on Katsuki's chest after a moment of thought, probably getting ready to push the other backwards and away from him. Katsuki doesn’t feel the shove though, just the warmth of the other’s hands as they rest on him. He knows the other’s thoughts are probably going a mile a minute, trying to figure out what angle Katsuki is coming from or what prank he’s trying to pull so he decides to give the other space and he’s done enough for the night.
He backs away slowly, dropping his smile to wear his usual bored expression again, turning towards the door to head home. He turns to look over his shoulder at a still blushing Izuku who looks like he just kicked a puppy and feels just a little bad, but he mostly feels like he just figured out a little more about his best friend.
And maybe, just maybe, he couldn’t help but think about how well built the other was when he got that quick glance under his loose t-shirt. But that one is staying in the depths of his mind, never to be poked by a ten foot pole if Katsuki can help it.
“Are you coming to my place or not?” Katsuki calls over his shoulder.
Katsuki watches Izuku as he takes a deep breath to compose himself before plastering his usual easygoing smile on his face, “Of course, Kacchan!”
And so they went.
Neither of them bring up what happened that day again, not for some time at least. Katsuki likes to think it was just a fluke, that maybe he just dreamt that entire day of his life and nothing actually happened. And Izuku acts like nothing ever happened either and Katsuki refuses to be the first to cave in and say something about it.
It’s not like anything has changed anyway.
Izuku would still come over just as often as he always has, they would eat their dinner together, watching the hero news as they saw all the recaps of their friends fighting against villains. Occasionally laughing at whatever stupid response Kaminari or Todoroki would blurt out during their interviews afterwards since neither of them quite mastering the skill of talking to the media after all these years in the business.
Katsuki would cook for the other every chance he got with the excuse that Izuku would probably starve if it weren’t for him. It definitely had nothing to do with the heartwarming smiles and the ‘Kacchan’s cooking is the best’ he would get in response to every meal no matter what.
Katsuki shakes that thought from his head as soon as it enters, shoving it straight into the back of his mind to sit in with the fact that Izuku is incredibly buff.
Over these couple weeks after the incident, Katsuki just couldn’t help but begin to notice more. So much more that he couldn’t keep shoving it all in the back of his mind anymore. It wanted him to notice everything about his best friend that he never saw before.
It got to the point where his gaze would start to linger just a little too long when Izuku would smile widely at him. Katsuki had to admit that it actually made the other look, dare he say, cute or some shit.
He also couldn’t help but view the other’s mannerisms as…as fucking cute , especially when they got to talking about something Izuku was passionate about. His mumbling stopped being annoying at some point and started being nice to listen to, like Katsuki couldn’t get enough of his voice.
There was also the other side of Izuku that Katsuki was noticing more and more as well.
Like how thick his thighs were, presumably from all the training Izuku has gone through to be able to use his quirk safely. Or the times Izuku would reach for something high and his shirt would ride up and Katuki would get a glimpse of the glorious eight pack the other was sporting under his many layers of clothes.
He couldn’t help himself, once he started recognizing these things he just couldn’t stop. It wasn’t like it was actually harming anyone.
And so what if he started to sit closer to Izuku while they ate on his couch, or started brushing their hands against one another by accident every night or so. Or started listening more intently whenever the other would ramble on and actually ask follow up questions instead of telling him to shut up.
Throughout it all, Izuku never once moved further away from Katsuki during these moments. He kept his hand underneath Katsuki’s even though he knew it had to be annoyingly warm and wet with all the sweat his hands constantly produced. And he always kept talking whenever Katsuki asked a question instead of telling him to be quiet.
The peace couldn’t last forever though, and everything from the past weeks comes pouring out one night while they’re relaxing at Katsuki’s apartment.
“Hey, Kacchan.” Izuku hesitantly speaks up one night.
“Yeah, nerd?” Katsuki could just tell by the way he said it, whatever Izuku was bringing up had to be a serious topic.
“Do you remember that one morning?” He blurts out quickly, looking at Katsuki expectantly.
Katsuki sighs, immediately knowing what morning he’s talking about but too scared to admit it, “What morning, Deku? We spend a lot of them together.”
Izuku glances at Katsuki quickly, “The one w-when we, um…”
Oh great, the nerd is going the bashful route tonight. Of fucking course.
“When we kissed by accident?” Katsuki blurts out impatiently, tired from the day of fighting villains and having to deal with news reporters asking endless amounts of questions. And he knows Izuku would spend an eternity beating around the bush rather than just getting to his point.
Izuku looks at him in shock, “You do remember! I knew you didn’t forget.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Katsuki pushes it aside. “What did you want to say about it?”
“O-oh, well,” Izuku starts, looking down at his lap while he plays with his own fingers, “Um, I just was thinking about it-”
“Bad decision.” He jokes.
“-And,” Izuku emphasizes, pointedly ignoring Katsuki’s comment, “I just thought that maybe it wasn’t all that…bad.”
“Not that bad, huh. I thought we already established that fact weeks ago. That's all you got to say about it, Deku?” Katsuki asks, very interested in whatever direction this conversation was going.
“Well, yeah.” Izuku faces Katsuki again.
“Hm,” Kastuki contemplates his next words before continuing, “It wasn’t that shitty to me either, I guess.”
At Katsuki’s words, Izuku’s face lights up with surprise. He was probably expecting Katsuki to freak out on him like he used to back when they were kids.
Katsuki has worked through most of his anger problems, thank you very much.
“Are you saying you liked it too, Kacchan?” Izuku teases, his smile so large his face is about to burst with happiness.
“I ain’t saying shit, Deku.” Katsuki grumbles, “It just didn’t suck, don’t act like you won the damn lottery or whatever.”
“I know that means you liked it. I’ve been able to speak Kacchan ever since we were little, you know,” Izuku declares proudly.
“ Speak Kacchan .” Katsuki mocks, “What the fuck ever, nerd. I guess it’s about time you figured out you aren’t completely insufferable.” And that I’ve been eyeing you from afar for weeks now , Katsuki keeps that last part to himself.
Staring at Izuku’s smile right at this moment is a little like staring at the sun and Katsuki seems to not be able to look away. It has its own gravitational pull and everything too, making him want to just lean it and taste it. See if it is even sweeter than he remembers from that small taste he got all those mornings ago.
Katsuki closes his eyes and shakes the thought from his head immediately. Izuku would never-
“Kacchan,” Izuku whispers, his voice much closer than Katsuki remembers it being just a moment ago.
When he opens his eyes, he finds himself a hair’s width away from Izuku’s face from where the nerd must’ve leaned in. Their eyes locked on one another’s gaze and Katsuki finds it impossible to look at anything other than the field of green in the other’s eyes.
“Kacchan,” Izuku takes Katsuki’s hesitation as the time to speak, his voice coming out as a whisper, “Only if you mean it, please. Only if it means the same thing I want it to mean.”
Katsuki doesn’t waste another breath, responding to Izuku’s words the only way he knew how to in the moment, through action. He leaned the rest of the way in and closed the gap between their lips without another thought.
He is kissing Izuku again, this time by choice.
Izuku briefly tenses up at the touch, then relaxes, sighing quietly. Kastuki thinks about how Izuku’s lips are just as soft as he remembers from his brief experience feeling them before. They feel like they were meant to be on his own, as cliche as that sounds.
They stay like that for a while, just testing the feeling and getting used to one another as they slowly move in sync. Their lips barely separate, even as Izuku starts to smile wide enough to show his teeth, which Katsuki wasted no time in kissing.
“Katsuki,” Izuku whispers, quickly interrupted by another press of Katsuki’s lips to his own.
Eventually Izuku’s smile breaks their lips apart again as he lets out a little chuckle that warms Katsuki from the inside out.
“Kaccha-,” Izuku starts again before this time, being quieted by Katsuki’s hand covering his mouth. Izuku looks at him with wide eyes, a small bout of panic growing behind them before Katsuki lets himself lose his usual cool demeanor and smiles at him softly to ease his thoughts.
“Before you start, nerd,” Katsuki starts, his voice rough like he had just ran a hundred miles, “Yes, this fucking means what you think it does. I wanted to do this, Izuku.”
He slowly removes his hand from Izuku’s mouth, ready for the onslaught of words the other is bound to throw at him after all that has happened. Izuku surprises him though, just asking one question, an important one albeit, but just one considering all the thoughts that are probably circling his brain.
“Why?”
And Katsuki doesn’t really know why. Why now, of all the years they’ve known one another, did things change? How can he explain that one simple accident left his mind reeling and his whole perspective of the other man flipped on its head? It’s completely unlike him but also it is just like him to do whatever he feels with no regrets. It’s just who he is.
“I don’t know.” Katsuki starts, “I’m not some hopeless romantic like you. I’m just seeing you , Izuku, for the first time in some aspects. All I know is one day we accidentally kissed on my bed and the next I’m fucking looking at you in a way I never have before.”
“I know you’re not, Kacchan.” Izuku starts, “I just can’t believe after all this time all it took was a simple accident to change your perspective. Maybe if I would’ve done something like that sooner…” He trails off quietly.
“Oi, nerd. Stay with me here. What was that you’re muttering about doing something sooner?”
Izuku waves his hands in front of his face and laughs nervously, “N-nothing!”
“No, I know you said something. Tell me.” Katsuki pushes.
“Well, I just said if only this happened sooner…” Izuku trails off again, his face red with embarrassment. “It would’ve been a lot easier on my heart, that’s for sure.”
“What, did you have a damn crush on me before all of this, Deku?” Katsuki asks jokingly.
Or it was a joke, until he sees Izuku’s eyes start to fill with water and look at Katsuki like a deer caught in headlights.
Katsuki just stares at him for a second before putting two and two together that maybe the nerd did like him beforehand. Maybe he was waiting for a moment like this.
All of a sudden, he understands why the nerd was so nervous about Katsuki initiating the kiss just a few minutes ago. If he didn’t mean it, Izuku was probably going to be so heartbroken he’d cry to his nerd friends for days. And the fact that he did mean it probably was putting the nerd’s brain into overdrive.
Oh god, Izuku was probably building up the courage to talk to him for all these weeks and Katsuki had no clue. All he could think about was how thick his thighs were.
“So you did.” He states plainly while Izuku turns an impossible shade of red.
“K-kacchan, it’s not what you think. I swear I wasn’t taking advantage of your friendship or anything, I swear!” Izuku squeaks out in a weak defense.
Katsuki levels him with his signature blase face, “I know, nerd. You’re not the type to do shit like that anyway.”
Izuku sighs in relief, his form immediately relaxing, “I just wanted Kacchan to know that he’s my best friend first.”
“But,” Katsuki starts, “We’re not just friends anymore right?”
“W-what makes you s-say that?” Izuku stammers out.
“Well I mean, we just made out in my living room for like ten minutes?” Katsuki points out, raising his eyebrow at the other, “Do you seriously just want to stay friends after that?”
Izuku blushes again and shakes his head before speaking in a small voice, “I just want to do what would make Kacchan happy.”
Whatever would make him happy, he says. Well, Katsuki has a few ideas about what will make him the happiest and he’s not too shy to share those.
“I have a few ideas of what will make me happy,” Katsuki starts moving forward, cornering Izuku against the arm of the couch while he moves his eyes up and down his body slowly.
“U-uhm,” Izuku looks around wildly for a way to escape, “Is it getting hot in here? I think we should open a window or something, K-kacchan. What do you think?”
Katsuki reaches out, grabbing the other’s chin lightly and guides him to look him in the eye, “I think, Izuku, that you’re getting nervous. Didn’t you want to do what makes me happy?”
And Katsuki knows it’s a low blow, really what defenses does Izuku have against him right now? He’s throwing out every stop that he learned while watching shitty dramas with Kirishima since that’s all he knows about how to seduce someone
And he has to say, Izuku is looking pretty seduced right now.
“Eyes on me, Deku. Or do you want me to stop?” He loosens his hold and begins to pull away.
Izuku’s hands immediately shoot out, wrapping around Katsuki’s shoulders and resting lightly behind his neck. He gently pulls the blonde towards himself, looking at nothing other than Katsuki’s eyes, Izuku’s gaze loaded with confidence Katsuki has only seen in them a handful of other times.
“Eyes on me too, Kacchan.”
And fuck, Izuku sounds like he just ran a race, his voice so breathy it does things to Katsuki and makes him feel things he never imagined he would feel about his best friend since preschool. But fuck himself if he looks anywhere but at the other right now.
Izuku looks like a dream come alive. His eyes are half hooded, his iris barely showing just how blown out his pupils are that they’re practically blacking out all the green they usually hold. His mouth is hung open just the slightest, but enough that every exhale the other takes bounces off Katsuki’s own face, showing just how close they really are.
From this close up too, Katsuki could count every single freckle on the other’s face. And maybe one day he will, and probably give each one the love and attention they truly deserve, but right now all he can think about is the end goal.
He leans down to reconnect their lips like a man starved. And damn, it felt just as good the tenth time as it did the first and something gives him the feeling that he will never grow tired of this feeling.
Izuku’s lips were slick against his own, warm and welcoming just like Katsuki had always imagined. They felt like they were made to be pressed against his own like this. Or maybe that’s just Katsuki’s imagination talking since he never thought in a million years he would be in this position with his best friend.
Painstakingly, Katsuki pulls back, just enough so they still share the same breaths, “This.”
“This what?” Izuku looks up at him in confusion, his brows furrowing together just the slightest, making Katsuki want to lean up and kiss them down again.
Katsuki pecks him quickly on the corner of his mouth, “This is what makes me happy. So stay with me, Izuku. Please?”
This whole thing might have started by accident, but at this moment Katsuki doesn’t regret one thing. Except taking so long to realize his feelings maybe instead of doing this all along. But, like they say, hindsight is twenty-twenty and all the shit.
Right now though, he’s more than happy to indulge in everything Izuku is willing to give him. And if they end up with more clothes on the floor than on themselves at the end of the night, well, Izuku did say he’d do whatever made Katsuki happy.
And it just so happened that what Katsuki wanted to do was what made them both happiest.
