Work Text:

Number One:

Janus took a deep breath, looking at his reflection in the mirror.

It had been a long day and the eighteen year old wanted to sleep- but his mind was filled with racing thoughts. Him and Remus had been in the imagination all afternoon and it had got him thinking.

The naga in Remus’ room were able to hypnotize others with their eyes. And well- Janus was half snake wasn’t he? Why wouldn’t he be able to do the same? It made sense didn’t it?

He stared into his mismatched eyes, the green and gold irises staring back at him.

How was he supposed to do this? How do you even trigger something like that?

Did he even have powers? Did he even have the ability to hypnotize anyone with his eyes?

He groaned, his eyes closing as he rested his forehead against the reflective surface.

This was ridiculous, it couldn’t be that hard right? He had been able to master anything he put his mind to.

He thought hard about the colorful swirls he usually saw in the naga’s eyes. The rainbow spirals that drove their subjects deeper and deeper into a trance..

He opened his eyes again- and was immediately entranced by his own eyes.

Number Two:

Once Janus had figured out the trick to unlocking his powers he couldn’t exactly get them to stop.

He had accidentally put himself and Remus into a trance a handful of times in the past week. It was getting sort of ridiculous- he couldn’t even think of the spirals or else he would put himself and Remus into trance.

It was beginning to be extremely annoying, it was impossible to get anything done.

Janus groaned and spun his spoon around his cereal bowl slowly. He’d barely been eating anything lately- mind too caught up on trying to stop the spirals.

He didn’t know what he was doing wrong! He had been trying to keep his mind clear but it never worked!

He had been trying every trick in the book to keep his mind distracted- hell him and Remus had resorted to coloring together on the living room floor!

Janus let out a deep sigh, looking down at the food he knew he wouldn’t be able to eat.

He caught sight of his reflection in the spoon he was holding..his eyes were spinning with colors. They drew him in and made all the racing thoughts disappear in seconds.

It didn’t take long for him to be trapped there, staring into the spoon he was holding.

Entranced by his eyes yet again.

Number Three:

It took a few years for Janus to get good at controlling his powers. Along with his eyes he found out he could shift into the others at will.

He never had any problems with that- but his eyes still gave him problems if he thought about them for too long.

But that hadn’t happened since he was a teenager. And he was in his thirties now, he definitely knew better.

Janus blinked a bit as a crash sounded in front of him, jolting him out of his…thoughts? He hadn’t been thinking of anything actually..

Remus was standing there, the mirror that hung in the kitchen now shattered at his feet. Logan was standing next to the intrusive side, looking at Janus with fascination in his blue eyes.

Janus was way too confused to even be mad about the broken glass.

“Ah, I was correct after all. He seems to be back to himself.” Logan hummed, making Janus look at the logical side confused.

“What the hell happened-?” He started to ask, Remus taking that moment to knock him back into a hug.

“Boa you were just standing here looking into the mirror!!!! Your eyes did that rainbow swirly thingy and I swear I looked away before you got me!!!!”

Janus groaned at the loud yelling nearly inches from his ears, patting his boyfriend’s head awkwardly.

His stomach did a weird twist at the mention of his eyes- he hadn’t let that happen in years.

Surely he didn’t…

“Ah..so you got Logan to help?” He finally asked, just holding Remus in his arms. He knew this clingy gremlin wasn’t going to let go anytime soon.

He was like a goddamn koala-

Logan was the one who nodded, he had been kneeling down and putting the larger shards of glass into a neat pile. Obviously being careful to not cut himself.

“Remus did not want to send you into a panic, according to him that is an outcome that has happened before.” He mused, barely even looking up at Janus.

The deceitful side winced at the reminder.

When they were just figuring out how to handle this situation, every time that Remus would jolt him out of the trance he would spiral into a horrible panic attack. It wasn’t a pretty sight to see.

“Ah..well thank you for being responsible for once in your life Remus.” Janus hummed, watching Logan turn the shards of glass into a small hand mirror.

It was a mat gray color and extremely plain compared to all of Roman’s fancy hand held mirrors.

“I think I might hold onto this.” Logan declared, standing back up and facing his boyfriend. “You never know when a mirror will be a useful tool, and you appear to be untrustworthy when it comes to your reflection, Janus.”

The snake only rolls his eyes, awkwardly walking over to Logan with Remus still attached to his hip. He gives Logan a gentle kiss on the cheek, taking a long deep breath.

“Thank you Specs, I’ll try to be more careful next time then.” Janus smiled, voice soft and loving.

Logan smiled faintly in return before sinking out without another word.

“You should be lucky he didn’t take you back for research.” Remus snickered. “He thought your eyes were so fascinating!! He probably wants to gouge them out and dissect them!!!”

Janus took a long deep breath, running a hand through Remus’ messy unkempt hair.

“Shut up you stupid cockroach.”

Number Four:

“Patton you’re going to have to sit still if we’re going to do this.” Janus sighed out, watching Patton bounce excitedly on his knees on the bed.

“But this is so exciting, Janus! I’m too excited to sit stillllll-“ he whines, falling back onto his bed and staring at the ceiling.

Janus could only laugh, rolling his eyes as he went over to sit on the side of the bed closest to his lover.

They were both in Patton’s room, the moral side had heard wind from Logan that Janus had hypnosis eyes. And well- curiosity killed the Patton.

“You can never sit still Patton.” Janus hums, running a gloved hand down Patton’s arm gently. It was something simple to ground the jumping bean. “It’s the curse of us all having Adhd.” He continued, traveling down to squeeze Patton’s hand in his own.

Patton whines and sits up at that, meeting Janus’ eyes with the cutest little pout.

“How come you can sit still then?” He tries to counter, crawling over so they could be closer. Janus rolled his eyes and pulled Patton onto his lap, knowing just how badly he craved the affection.

Well they both did- Patton was just far more vocal about it.

“Mmm because I’m very good at ignoring it and lying to myself sunshine~” Janus hums, pulling Patton into a gentle kiss. He very eagerly reciprocates, wrapping his arms around the back of Janus’ neck.

Janus pulled his head away to cup Patton’s face. There were a million freckles dusting his rosy cheeks- Logan loved to make constellations out of them.

“You ready Patton?”

A giant grin stretched across his face as Patton nodded. “Oh I’m so ready! More ready than anything!”

Janus couldn’t help but smile to himself at the enthusiasm, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. He really hated using his powers on any of them- all the what ifs would rush to his head.

He was unskilled with using his eyes- that’s why he was a much better hypnotist without the crutch of his powers.

Hell when he and Virgil were still together he had accidentally sent him into a panic attack.

He must have zoned out for a second too long because Patton placed a gentle hand on his gloved hand. “You can do it Jan, I believe in you.”

Janus chuckles to himself, squeezing onto Patton’s hand. “Brace yourself-“ he mutters before opening his eyes.

The second his eyes were open Janus and Patton both let out a gasp, the two of them immediately enthralled by the colors swirling in front of them. Their minds were instantly captured by the spirals spinning and twisting into color after color.

Patton went limp where he sat and stared into the colors he had been waiting for.

As for Janus-

The spirals had reflected off of Patton’s glasses, giving him a perfect view of his own eyes. Making every thought in his head disappear in a fraction of a second.

They were both trapped there staring into the hypnotic spirals.

Number Five:

“Janus, do you think you could explain your eyes to me?” Logan asked without prompting.

Janus and him had been laying in Logan’s room reading their own separate books. They had both needed some quiet time- their shared boyfriends could be quite loud sometimes.

The snake side set down his book and rolled over to face Logan. “What about my eyes?” He hummed, feigning innocence. He knew damn well what Logan meant.

“Well- this hypnosis power you seem to possess is quite intriguing. I know we are both quite skilled hypnotists but that is a completely new factor.” Logan had met Janus’ eyes, seemingly studying them.

Janus wanted to blush and look away but he made sure to hold eye contact. Looking away meant Logan had won.

“Ah..” Janus said softly. “Well I don’t know much about it, I just know it’s a part of being a snake? The nagas in the imagination showed me how to do it when I was younger. And then I figured out how to do it and control it myself.”

Logan nodded slowly, reaching up to cup Janus’ face and study him closer. Now Janus really did blush, going perfectly still as Logan brushed his thumb across his scales.

“Mmm well they’re extremely strong from what I could observe- it took me quite a while to get you and Patton back up the other week.”

Janus pulls away at the reminder, still embarrassed by that entire situation.

Reflections were his mortal enemy- how was he supposed to know the reflection in Patton’s glasses would make all the difference?!

“Oh come on Janus, there’s no practical reason to be embarrassed. It’s not like you could predict the outcome of that situation.” Logan grabbed his chin, forcing their eyes to meet again.

Janus blushed deeply on one side of his face, his heart skipping a beat. He knew Logan wasn’t trying to be sexy- but fuck if he wasn’t so sexy.

“I- it’s just..embarrassing?” He tried, watching Logan’s movements carefully.

They had moved to be sitting across from each other, and Logan’s face was inching closer with every passing second.

“Well Patton and you seemed to enjoy it.” Logan hums, closing the gap between them both.

Janus kisses back, closing his eyes into the action. He did not trust himself right now- not in the slightest. He was thinking too hard about the spirals- he might accidentally pull Logan under.

The second they pulled away Logan sits back, a smirk on his lips.

“I want you to use your powers on me.” He stated simply, smoothing out his tie and putting both of their now forgotten books on the bedside table. “I’ll take my glasses off, don't worry. We wouldn’t want a repeat of the other week would we~?” He teased, looking back at Janus.

The deceitful side narrows his eyes at Logan, wanting to say a million things but not a single word comes out.

Janus takes a deep breath and adjusts his gloves, a mindless fidget he had grown accustomed to over the years.

“Janus, are you okay with doing that?” Logan asked gently, grabbing him by the chin again. It makes Janus lose all train of thought, all he could do was nod.

“Yeah that sounds…that should be fine.” He managed out, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

Logan had a certain power over him..Logan made him weak.

“Wonderful, let me know when you’re ready to begin.” Logan says, taking off his glasses and setting them on top of the books.

Janus studied his face, smiling ever so slightly. Logan looked very nice without glasses, he only ever got to see him like this at night.

Janus loved him- oh who was he kidding he loved all five of them.

Janus readjusted himself so that he was comfortably facing Logan. He met Logan’s icy blue eyes, he wondered if the logical side could hear his own pounding heart.

“I think I’m ready..are you ready?” Janus confirmed, watching Logan’s face turn into a small smile.

“Of course I am Janus, I know you’re self conscious about your eyes so please take your time dear.” Janus could have melted into an embarrassed puddle at that, closing his eyes and bracing himself.

Nothing bad was going to happen, Logan had taken off his glasses and there were no mirrors in Logan’s room.

He wasn’t going to be trapped by his own reflection again.

Not this time.

“Okay I’m opening my eyes Specs.” Janus warned, bracing himself. It was going to be okay, there was no way anything bad could happen.

The second he opened his eyes he was met with his own hypnotic eyes. The rainbow spirals drawing him, he was so familiar with the spirals.

They were beautiful and made every thought leave his mind.

He stared deep into the reflection gracing his eyes, his body immediately going slack as he stared without a care in the world.

Logan hums to himself, his eyes of course shut tight. He had put his plain gray hand mirror in front of Janus’ face.

It was the same one he had made out of the shards of glass from the kitchen mirror.

He had never been able to successfully hypnotize Janus- they had tried every trick they knew but he had never gone under into a full trance.

And ever since Logan had learned about the spirals Janus held in his eyes, he knew immediately that there was a chance he would be able to put the deceitful side under.

“Janus, are you with me?” He asked, keeping his voice calm and steady. “Are you under your own spell right now?”

“Yessssss..” he heard a soft voice hiss out. That made Logan grin, his hypothesis had been correct.

“Good.” He hums, making sure to keep his eyes closed. He knew not even himself could resist the spirals.

“I want you to listen to my voice and feel yourself falling deeper and deeper into trance. From this point forward until I pull you up you will be susceptible to everything I tell you. Do you understand me, Janus?”

He heard another hiss of a yes, smiling again at the sound. Janus always tried to keep from hissing, so when he let it out it was a special occasion.

“Good boy.” He praises, clenching onto the mirror. He so badly wanted to watch Janus fall, but he knew better.

“I’m going to snap my fingers, and when I do you’re going to drop deep into trance. You are going to fall into a deep sleep, and what I tell you in that sleep will then become your truth.”

He waited a few seconds before snapping, the sound cutting through the echoing silence. Seconds later he heard a thump across from him.

Logan opened his eyes, reaching over to put his glasses back on.

Janus had fallen back against the bed, his hat having fallen off and his shoulder length hair spread out behind his head. He looked to be as if he was sleeping, his expression calm and vacant.

Logan smiles to himself, going over to rest the fallen hat on the side of the bed.

“Now what shall I do with you?”

Number Five Part 2 (Now with more Remus):

Remus usually zoned out whenever his boyfriend got mad at him. Janus could scream at him for hours about the most mundane things in his opinion.

He didn’t even remember why Janus was mad today. Something about being more responsible?

Oh!

He had dumped his ant farm out into the kitchen so they could all clean up the messy table instead of him!

Janus had not liked that in the slightest-

So now he was being lectured about hygiene or something- honestly he was just watching Janus’ face. He looked oh so handsome when he was worked up like this.

His human side was puffed up and red, his hands in wild gestures as he talked with them.

“Remus Sanders are you even fucking listening to me?!” Janus shouted exasperated, snapping the intrusive side out of his daze.

He grins up at the love of his life. “Absolutely not Boa~” he hums. “I haven’t been listening for the last half hour~”

Remus watches his love’s eye twitch, his hands clenched into fists. Ohhhhhh he was in for it now~

He grinned even more as Janus crossed the room and got right up in his face. He grabbed onto the the front of Remus’ outfit and brought their faces close together Fuck he was going to-

“Janus, surely you don’t plan on doing anything brash to Remus.”

Both Remus and his lover look over at Logan’s words, Janus’ hands tightening their grip.

Oh he was very very very frustrated.

“Ssssstay out of this Specs.” Janus hissed out, his teeth clenched together.

Remus watched as Logan came up behind the snake side silently, Janus was too preoccupied anyways.

Janus took a deep breath, he was too focused on Remus at the moment- and Remus wasn’t about to get yelled at even more.

“Now where was I you little maggot-“ he hissed out, opening his mouth to most likely start yelling again.

But he froze.

Janus’ face and body went completely lax against Remus. He looked dazed out of his mind, like he was high or something.

Logan chuckled softly, helping to pull Janus away so he wasn’t crushing Remus.

“I knew that would come in handy, he should be a lot more tolerable now.” The logical side hums, but Remus wasn’t listening.

He was too hyper focused on his lover. Janus looked so vulnerable and beautiful- Remus just wanted to explode into a million pieces at seeing him like this.

“What did you do to him????” He grinned, interrupting whatever the hell Logan was going on about.

Logan rolls his eyes and lets out a soft huff. “I added a hypnotic trigger to him the other day. I have been testing it around the house and I figured you would enjoy a demonstration.”

That makes Remus bounce with joy. “You mean he’s all zonked out now?! Oh I love him!!! How did you do that????”

Logan gave a half smile at seeing Remus so giddy.

“I just tapped the back of his neck and sent him into a blissful relaxation. It will only work with me though- before you decide to try anything.”

Remus pouted but nodded slowly, looking at Janus’ face carefully. He looked beautiful…his eyes were half lidded and his mouth was agape.

He looked out of his goddamn mind.

“Will he come up on his own or do you have to do it??? I don’t know shit about hypnosis- other than it makes me feel goooood~”

Remus grins from ear to ear, his jagged teeth gleaming in the light. He loved this more than words could ever say.

“He will come back up when his mind has deemed him calm enough.” Logan explained. “Until then you should refrain from- stressing him out to that extreme.”

Remus rolled his eyes and pulled his boyfriend into a tight hug. Even if he was too zonked out of it to properly hug back.

“Youuuuu got it teach! I’ll let you know if we need anything~” he was already fantasizing about all the cuddling they were going to do now that Janus couldn’t object.

Maybe he could? He didn’t know how this worked-

Logan only rolled his eyes. “Remus I mean it. Please do be careful with him- he’s not completely under right now.”

Remus only rolls his eyes, sinking out with Janus before Logan could utter another word.

Logan could only laugh to himself- so many possibilities were available now that he could hypnotize Janus.

All because he couldn’t control his eyes.
