“What are you doing?”
Alex turned from the bathroom mirror to see a still tired Magnus behind him, standing in the bathroom doorway.
“Morning, Sleepy,” Alex chuckled softly, turning back to the mirror.
“That does not answer my question,” Magnus replied through a yawn, coming up and sitting on the counter to watch Alex. “What are you doing?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Alex asks, gestures to the make-up laid out on the counter.
“It is,” Magnus replied, nodding slightly. “But I wanted to hear you say it. I just like hearing your voice.”
“Gods, you’re cheesy,” Alex chuckled.
“Shut up, you love it.”
“Or maybe I just tolerate it. You never know.”
Magnus sighed, not really responding as he watched Alex open up his eyeliner and begin to put it on his bottom lash line.
“I thought you didn’t wear make-up on your male days.”
“Eh,” Alex shrugged. “I do sometimes, just not as much. Y’know, make-up doesn’t really apply to just one gender. Like, clothes.” Magnus nodded. “Anyways, I mostly just do eyeliner and concealer, so I don’t look like a literal corpse.”
Magnus nodded, leaving them in a peaceful silence as Alex finished his eyeliner and Magnus watched with an intrigued look on his face.
It was domestic, almost. The only sounds in the bathroom were Alex’s occasional humming of some Taylor Swift song or another, and Magnus’s heels hitting against the cabinets.
Right in the middle of Alex’s rather amazing humming of Mine, he grinned triumphantly.
“Ah-ha!” He said, grinning as he capped the eyeliner. He turned to Magnus as he put it back in his bag. “What do you think?”
“Amazing, as always,” Magnus said, smiling softly at his boyfriend.
Alex rolled his eyes, yet there was no malice behind it as he smiled. “Yeah, doubt that, but okay. Whatever you say, Mags.”
“What?” Magnus said, chuckling. “It’s true! What’s the point in asking if you won’t accept the compliment?”
“I asked for your honest opinion,” Alex said, beginning to put everything back in their bags. “Not for you to flatter me.”
Magnus pouted. “But it’s true, thoooooough. Honest.”
“You’re a dork.”
“You’re a dork.”
“No, you’re a dork.”
“No, you’re a dork.”
“Now, I just feel like you’re copying me.”
“Now, I just feel like-”
Alex tossed his concealer sponge at Magnus, laughing as it bounced off his forehead.
“Jackass,” Magnus muttered, not truly meaning it.
“But you love meeee!” Alex hummed.
“Unfortunately.”
It was as Alex went to put his eyeliner away, that he got an idea. He turned to Magnus with a sly grin on his face.
“I don’t like that face you’re making…”
“What face?” Alex asked, being thrown off slightly by that comment.
“That face,” Magnus insisted. “The face you make when you’re up to something.”
“I’m not ‘up to’ anything,” Alex said, zipping up his make-up bag, leaving the eyeliner out as he put it away in one of the drawers. He looked back at Magnus. “I just have an idea.”
“And what is that idea, if I may ask?”
“Lemme do your eyeliner.”
Magnus blinked. “Come again.”
“Lemme do your eyeliner,” Alex repeated. “Come on, it’ll be fun! Let me make you look pretty.”
“Who said I’m not already pretty?”
“I did,” Alex said, causing Magnus to jokingly scoff. “It doesn’t matter. I won’t do it if you really don’t want me to, but I just thought it’d be something worth trying or whatever.”
Magnus is silent for a moment.
“... You won’t make me look stupid?”
“Of course not,” Alex says. “You do that good enough all on your own.”
Magnus ignores that comment. “You know what? Screw it. Yeah, do my eyeliner.”
Alex clapped his hands together quietly. “Hel yeah! Okay, you can stay up there. You’re short, so it isn’t really an issue.”
“I am not short!”
“I hate to break it to you, Mags,” He didn’t. “But being five five makes you short.”
Magnus rolled his eyes. “You’re just a giant.”
“I’m only five ten!” Alex said, laughing as he grabbed his eyeliner. “That’s only five inches taller than you.”
“Five inches too much.”
“Shut up and let me work my magic,” Alex said, shaking his head fondly.
Magnus obliged, closing his eyes so Alex could ‘work his magic.’
Alex was about to begin before he paused, pulling the eyeliner pen back just as it was about to make contact with Magnus’s eye.
“Wings or no wings?”
Magnus opened his eyes. “What?”
“Do you want wings or not? Simple question.”
“Wings?” Magnus asked with an incredulous look on his face. “Like, bird wings?”
Alex rolled his eyes.
“No, you dope. A wing. Like… hold up, lemme show you.”
Alex pulled his phone out of his pocket and quickly typed something into Google.
“Like, this,” Alex said as he handed his phone over to Magnus. “See? Nothing to do with birds.”
Magnus examined the picture. “Oh! The swoopy part! Sure, I guess.”
“The swoopy part?” Alex asked, bursting out laughing this time. “Oh my gods, the swoopy part.”
“Shut up, I don’t know this stuff,” Magnus grumbled. “That’s just what I called it.”
Alex sighed, still laughing a bit as he shook his head and grabbed the eyeliner again. “I’m never calling it a wing again.”
“Asshole,” Magnus muttered.
“Shut up, you love me,” Alex said. “Ready?”
Magnus nodded and Alex uncapped the pen. Alex told Magnus to close his eyes again and so he did so, allowing Alex to let the eyeliner glide along his eyelid, swiping up towards the end.
“Tickles,” He murmured.
“Shhh,” Alex said. “You’re distracting me.”
Magnus did and Alex swapped to his other eye, doing the same process on this eye as he did on the other eye.
“Done,” Alex eventually said and Magnus opened his eyes. “Okay, take a look.”
Alex moved out of the way as Magnus hopped off the counter, hugging him from behind as he got in front of the mirror and resting his chin on his shoulder to see his reaction.
“What do you think?” Alex muttered.
“I like it,” Magnus said after a few moments of silence. “It looks nice.” He turned in Alex’s hold, smiling softly. “Thank you.”
“You better like it,” Alex joked. “We wouldn’t want me wasting my precious time only for you to not like it.”
“Of course not,” Magnus agreed, leaning in to kiss Alex.
“Gay.”
Magnus pulled away. “Changed my mind.”
“Wait, Mags!”
“Goodbye!” Magnus said, leaving the bathroom and assumingly heading off to his room.
“Magnus!”
There was no response as Alex heard the door shut.
“Asshole!”
