Wandering

Summary:

Erasing their memories had hurt Davenport more than Lucretia had ever thought and she felt so guilty, she felt responsible for him, but seeking the relics would be dangerous and she couldn’t do that and look after him.

There was only one person Lucretia would trust to protect them, whether he knew them or not.

Notes:

Writer's Month Day 21: word prompt hammock|setting prompt at a bar

Literally doubled all the TAZ fic I have ever written this month (I've been listening to Balance again). This is a very small part of another AU I have dubbed the Dadenport AU in which pretty much everything is the same except Magnus wanders around with his tiny dad Davenport on his shoulders. Also it's apparently my 300th fic on AO3 which explains why I keep running out of title ideas

Work Text:

Davenport liked sleeping under the stars. Magnus had given him a blanket and he’d effortlessly turned it into a hammock hanging between two trees and looked up in wonder at the twinkling between the leaves.

Magnus couldn’t help the soft smile looking up at him. He seemed so care-free and something in Magnus said Davenport hadn’t got to be like that for a very long time

He wasn’t sure why.

It had only been a few weeks since the figure had asked him to take care of Davenport. They’d said Davenport was important, that he had been hurt somehow, but try as he might Magnus couldn’t quite remember what they’d said, or what they’d looked like.

But Davenport needed looking after, and that was what Magnus did. He felt it inside him, from the same place that sometimes felt like he’d known Davenport for so much longer than those few weeks. Magnus protected people. He protected Davenport, and Davenport was important.

It wouldn’t take them much longer to reach Raven’s Roost. Magnus had a letter recommending him for a carpentry apprenticeship there. Maybe that had come from the figure too. He hadn’t thought much about carpentry before.

Davenport was still watching the stars, and yet somehow Magnus could hear Davenport telling him to go to sleep.

He tucked the other blanket over Davenport to keep him warm and Davenport patted his cheek.

Only a few more days, and then Raven’s Roost.
