Notes:

This is a bit different from my usual writing, but I’m on a Scream kick right now.

I tagged the fic as graphic depictions of violence, not for anything described in the fic, but because I’m going to be adding some art which my be a little graphic. (My art style isn’t super realistic or anything, just a precaution.)

I’ll warn in advanced if an artwork included has violence or blood/injury. One is at the end of this chapter

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Ring

Margot Langley had had enough of her boyfriend's incessant calls to her home.

She knew he’d been missing her ever since his family left for vacation, but Christ could he leave her alone for 15 minutes?

Ring

Maybe when her brother got back from his soccer game she would have him answer the phone for her, say she went out with friends, or hell, tell him she was out screwing his best friend, she really didn’t care at this point.

Ri—

“Oh fuck it!” She yelled out, snatching the phone off its stand and bringing it to her ear.

“Xander I’m not a fucking child, I can handle being alone for 20 minutes.”

“I don’t doubt that.”

That… wasn’t her boyfriend. The voice was low and almost mechanical. It was strangely familiar, but it certainly wasn’t her boyfriend.

“I’m sorry I thought— um I think you might have the wrong number.”

“Is this Margot Langley?”

She paused. Should she be telling this stranger who she is? He seemed to already know.

“Yes, it is.”

She could hear the smirk on the other side of the phone, even through whatever filter the person was talking through.

“Then I have the right number.”

She took a deep breath, “What do you want?”

There was a light crackling on the other side of the phone, “To ask a question.”

She went to reply, but was cut off—

“Do you like scary movies?”

She choked on her own breath. She knew why this felt so familiar.

She’d seen this movie before.

Everyone in Woodsboro had.

She hung up the phone.

Running faster than she’d ever run in her life she threw the phone and fell into the hall closet. The door didn’t lock from the inside, so she slipped one of her brother's drumsticks through the handle. From where she was crouched on the ground,\ she prayed her family would return soon.

Ring

She clamped her hands over her mouth, pressing her elbows into her knees as an attempt to stifle any noise she might make. She stared at the light coming from under the door. It was a large gap, she could probably fit her foot under it if she tried. Or a killer could fit a gun, she thought.

Ring

She closed her eyes.

She could feel the tears run down her cheeks. God why couldn’t it have just been Xander on the phone.

Ring

The ringing was louder. Closer? Shit shit.

Ring

She can hear the smooth, low scraping sound of something sliding across the hardwood floor. Something hit her foot. Lifting her head slightly she could see it. The phone laying at her feet.

Ring

She grabbed the phone, pressing it against her head. The cold metal shook in her hands and against her face.

“What do you want from me?” She sobbed, her throat already raw.

“Nothing from you.” Called the voice on the other side. The tone was the same, but it was slightly higher in pitch, despite the filter. That was all she picked up on before the phone began a continuous beep. The person on the other side had hung up.

Her hands shook as she slowly placed the phone back on the floor. Maybe he was leaving, and this was all some sick prank.

That hope was fleeting though, as she leaned her head back and caught a glimpse of a dark figure above her. She shook as she stared into the blank eyes of the ghostface mask.

She screamed, and as her throat was cut, she choked.
