“I’m sorry I had to restrain you that way,” Ada mutters, “You understand that I can’t let you hurt either of us.”
She assumes she’ll be met with silence again, and instead finds a distinct, quiet note of surprise when he shakes his head against the floor.
“...My fault,” He almost whispers, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
It’s an awful sound to hear. His voice isn’t quiet by intent, but rather because it sounds like he’s had his vocal chords raked out of his body. It’s raspy, raw. She can imagine a dozen causes for it. There’s no scarring, so it can’t have been a physical trauma — the most likely option is either from misuse, or from screaming. Her stomach churns again, and this time is potent enough that she clasps a hand over her mouth, just in case she actually vomits. It passes within seconds, though she’s left feeling a bit cold and clammy.
“It’s okay,” Ada instead assures, “I understand. I scared you.”

In desperation to get his publicist, Gale Weathers, off his ass about promoting his newest book, he agrees to go to a week-long horror convention. While there, he meets one of the photographers, Stu Macher, who photographs the guest stars and also happens to be a big fan of his books. They learn they each have a similar love for all things sinister, and scheme to go through with some of those hidden plans Billy wrote in his notebooks so many years ago.

Summary
It’s been half a year now since his marriage to Mel fell apart and Jayce became a stay-at-home dad. A little less than that, since he offered Viktor the empty guest room, just to make juggling work and child-rearing overall easier.
It’s a question of convenience, really. Jayce gets to take care of his daughter, but he also has someone to watch her when he needs to run errands, to play with her next door while Jayce is in a conference call with their sponsors.
And if Mae gets a little confused about how many daddies she has… or if Jayce is in denial about what kind of partner he wants Viktor to be… Well. They’re going to figure it out eventually.

He says it without the inflection of a question, but Ada knows better. "Of course I won't. Steady hands, remember?"
"S-Surgeon's hands."
She can't help her smile. "I'll be gentle. I'll go slow, and I won't nick you. Give me a moment to get everything ready."
