Work Text:
It was safe to say that Crowley didn't like other beings touching his sunglasses. Be they human, demon, angel, or any other creature, the shades were completely off-limits. Many had tried removing them over the millennia. Sometimes to see if he was mortal. Sometimes it was just to piss him off. Nearly every incident got met with at least a hiss. A few ended up with the loss of appendages.
(The paperwork for those were particularly grueling, so, he tried avoiding that option. Tempting as it became.)
He could claim his reasons for wearing them, and for his nearly his entire existence-
He had sensitive eyes.
They looked good.
He needed a way to cover them without constantly using miracles.
All of which were true. None told the full story.
How, early on, he became all too aware of human's unease towards him.
How he couldn't easily blend in.
How other demons sneered at him.
How he was told, time and again, that his eyes were just . . . . wrong. Too weird. Too expressive. Too big. Too frightening.
His glasses became his shield against those words. Forming a barrier between him and others. Refusing to let anyone, no matter their seemingly kind demeanor, past his defenses.
Except, of course, for a single being.
Aziraphale.
The angel had seen his eyes quite often, and at no point did he look disgusted, or uneasy. He never said anything, just smiled and went on with whatever they were doing. It was more refreshing than the waters in Eden. He also, despite getting into several bad arguments with Crowley during their friendship, attempted to remove his glasses. He respected his boundaries, which spoke volumes of the respect he held for him.
Then, it all came crashing down.
They got torn apart. Stuck on different sides of a second potential apocalypse neither wanted. Eventually, through the staggering odds, they averted it once again and the worlds were finally at peace. For good, this time around.
As their victory sank in, Aziraphale turned to Crowley. His hand reaching towards his glasses but pausing before he reached them.
"May I, darling?"
A nod was all he could manage. His angels' beautiful colors becoming radiant as the specks were slipped off.
"Perfect."
Turns out, he wanted to see his eyes for their second kiss. A notion Crowley was all too agreeable with.
