Chapter Text
Chuuya Nakahara, he had been a detective for about two years now, which is more than just impressive, seeing as he started when he was freshly eighteen, and now, he's twenty and already the most respected member of the detective organisation.
Ever since Chuuya became a detective, criminal arrests have increased efficiently. People doubted the man at first due to his lack of height, but he proudly proved all those idiots wrong. However. There is this one delinquent who always manages to slip from his fingers.. They call him 'Satan's Pet', as his real name is unknown, and his act of crimes vary. Though there hasn't been a single murder case, yet.
"Bastard." The redhead snapped as he slammed his clenched fist against the wooden table, causing the paper and pens to rattle for a second. "He got away again.. That snake.." He muttered as he raised his gloved fingers to rub his aching temples, he was beginning to have a headache due to this annoyance.
The detective slowly inhaled through his nose, before quietly exhaling, he was alone in his office. The demon of a man had managed to steal an emerald ring inside of a museum at 12:15am, it came from Egypt. The man's piercing blue eyes returned to the laptop, replying the footage once more. The footage from the museum was a little blurry and static, but he had no issue seeing the figure, it was a tall man, he wore a black and purple attire with a cloak, and a quite dramatic hat which had a purple feather to accompany it. He wore a white-phantom mask, so you were able to see brown arrogant eyes, as if he knew in the future, the detective would be watching him from the security footage. The detective let out a sigh and just shut the laptop.
This was futile. But, Chuuya was starting to notice a pattern, first it was an art museum, then a historical museum.. So his next move must be.. The Yokohama doll museum. The redhead cracked his gloves knuckles, it was a slim chance, but, it was worth it if he managed to catch this punk.
Later that night, Chuuya got a permit to enter the doll museum late at night, around twelve again. Honestly, he was starting to regret his decision. He got an eerie sensation tickling his spine everytime he looked at one of the porcelain dolls, it felt like he was being watched, and he hated it. But he had to suck it up; he was a grown man now after all! He let out a sigh, before checking his watch briefly as he leaned against a pillar inside the museum.
Step.
Chuuya's eyes widened at the sound of delicate shoe hitting the floor, as if they jumped down from somewhere, a window?
Chuuya held his breath as he peaked around the pillar, the window was open. Fuck. But.. Why couldn't he see anyone? His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, before letting out a gasp once he heard a low voice right beside him,
"Oh? You finally caught me, detective.." The man in black purred, he was leaning down to reach Chuuya's ear.
The detective quickly spun around to face the man, shit, he was face to face with the criminal.
"You- You're under arrest!"
The redhead tried to move his hands, but he couldn't. The tall man before him didn't even flinch, he simply wore an unbothered, polite smile. Nervously, the redhead looked down.. Pure shock took over his expression, he was handcuffed. Wait- These were his handcuffs. How did he-
He looked up at the man, rage filling his pupils, he looked like a tiger about to pounce on it's prey.
"Ah.. What gorgeous eyes you have, don't look at me like that, you'll make me blush~" The criminal teased as he blew Chuuya a mocking kiss;
Infuriated, the detective tried shoving his hands into his own pockets to try grab his key in time as he repeated himself, "Asshole! I said you're under arrest! Stop fucking around!"
"Hmm.. No I'm not being arrested today unfortunately, but you certainly are~" The man let out an amused chuckle as he pulled one of the dolls from out of his coat, making it wave at Chuuya, "It was a pleasure to meet you, detective, but I must go now~ Tata~" The criminal playfully waved goodbye at Chuuya, before making his quick escape through the window.
Chuuya wanted to scream. "FUCK." He managed to slip one of his hands into his pocket, and just was barely able to unlock the handcuffs. This was so humiliating. He sprinted out of the building through the window as well, closing it behind him as he frantically looked around the area for the man. He vanished.
The redhead's jaw tightened as he clenched his hands into fists, "Next time you won't be so lucky." He muttered bitterly.
The next day, Chuuya waltzed over to his favourite cafe for his morning coffee, the bell hanging over the door rang as he opened it, and was greeted by a new recruit. "Welcome to Hoshino coffee!" A boy with curly brown locks gave the detective a little but charming smile. His eyes practically twinkled behind his black round glasses. He looked cute, and around Chuuya's age too.
"Hey, are you new here? I come to this cafe all the time and yet this is the first time I've seen you.."
No Chuuya, you've seen this man many times before actually..
"What great memory you have.. You truly are a regular, but yes, you're right, this is my first shift."
The redhead glanced down at the man's name badge.. Osamu Dazai. He'll remember that.
"Well, even if it's your first shift, I still expect a perfect coffee~" The redhead said with a playful tone in his voice. It made the other giggle. What a lovely noise.
"Oh don't worry Nakahara, you'll get the best coffee that's ever touched your lips."
Wait. How does he know his name?
The redhead paused for a moment, "I don't believe I ever told you my name?"
Shit. The brunette thought to himself. Quickly, make up an excuse!
"Oh please, I know everyone!" The boy with glasses chuckled nervously before clearing his throat.. Chuuya brushed it off. For now. "So, what would you like?"
Forgetting all of the previous questions that flooded his mind, he simply ordered what he always got, "Just a cappuccino with almond milk please."
The boy tapped his order into the screen before tilting his head, "Will that be all for today?" Once the redhead gave him a nod, he submitted the order, "That'll be 450 yen please"
As the detective took his card out of his wallet, he could've sworn he had heard Dazai's voice from somewhere before.. But where? "Thank you" The man tapped his card against the screen before walking to the closest table.
The redhead let out a quiet sigh as he thought about the events the previous night.. How did that guy even manage to..? Ugh. Whatever, there's no point in dwelling it, next time he'll have to be sure to recover his pride and dignity.
"Here's your coffee, Nakahara." The sound of a gentle voice broke Chuuya from his thoughts, and he looked up at the boy, taking a brief moment to admire his eyes as he gave him a thankful smile,
"You can just call me Chuuya," He suggested as he rested his cheek against the palm of his hand with both of his elbows on the table,
"Chuuya huh? What a lovely name, in that case, you can call me Osamu" He carefully handed Chuuya his coffee, their fingertips briefly brushing against each other.
"Osamu.. Very well.." The man smiled against the rim of his cup as he looked up at the boy with glasses.
The boy sat on the chair infront of Chuuya with an almost coy smile on his face, cute. "So, how's your coffee? Does it meet your standards?" He chirped curiously, though something told the ginger that he already knew that he'd like it.
"Oh be patient Osamu, it hasn't even cooled down yet." He raised a questioning eyebrow at the boy who sat in front of him, "Aren't you supposed to be working, newbie?"
The barista let out an amused giggle at the redheads words, he waved the man off; right before shrugging his shoulders a fraction at his question, "I'm on break."
The detective blew into his cup gently to try cool it off a little while he listened to the other, "So you're choosing to spend your break with me?"
The brunette blinked a few times, he wasn't expecting that, once he processed he simply nodded, "I guess I am, aren't I?" A small grin grew on the man's face, before he leaned against his seat with his bandaged arms crossed over his chest, "So, where do you work?"
The redhead pursed his lips for a moment, before deciding to be a bit of a smartass, since he wasn't nearly convinced by his comment earlier, "Didn't you say you knew everyone?"
The brunette of course knew his job, but saying so could risk giving away his identity.. "I.. That doesn't necessarily mean I know their occupation"
Chuuya adjusted his grey coat comfortably, before taking a small sip of the coffee, humming in acknowledgement to the man's excuse, again, "Ah, my mistake.. I'm a detective." He paused for a moment and looked down at his cup. "'Coffee's good by the way" He gave a satisfied nod before taking a second sip,
"Ah.. A detective? How cool~" The boy swooned as he let out a soft giggle, squinting his eyes shut lightly as he did. "So what? You catch criminals? You must pretty smart then hm?"
"Hah, you're quite the flatterer Osamu." The detective chuckled into his cup, he decided not to tell the other about that certain criminal.. "But yes, I guess I'm quite gifted in capturing the criminals, catching them red handed."
"How impressive.. I heard this one criminal who's been on the loose for quite some time now, 'Satan's pet'? You should probably jump onto that case! I'm sure you'd solve it no time~" The barista said with the grin of a man who outsmarted a child in a board-game.
"Wh.. Yeah.. Maybe I should.." Chuuya cleared his throat awkwardly before excusing himself, "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go back to work."
"Wait-" The brunette placed his hand on top of the others, handing Chuuya his phone, "Give me your number?" He asked with an endearing smile on his face. Oh. How could he say no to that?
The boy smiled at the barista before taking his phone, huffing out a small laugh as he added his number into the other boy's phone without a second thought, "I suppose I'll see you around then, Osamu?"
Dazai smiled back at him sincerely as he nodded his head, taking his phone back, "I look forward to seeing you again~" He purred; and it's only once Chuuya left, when he dared to whisper, "Sooner than you may think.." A dangerous smirked flashed across the boys feature. All dramatic, before his boss yelled at him to return to his shift.
Chuuya returned to his office, the image of the boy briefly flashing his mind.. "Osamu huh.. What a strange man.." Although strange, he couldn't deny he was attractive. He felt as if he stared into the boy's eyes for too long he may be trapped, or if he touched his soft curly locks he may never want to let go. He caught his mind straying too far away from his main focus. Right. He's at work, stop daydreaming about some stupid boy you just met.
The remainder of the day was boring to say the least, no new cases, he just had to fill out old paperwork from his previous arrests the entire night, he was efficient with his work, he liked to be organised and detailed.
The redhead returned home after a long day of work, sighing to himself as he silently turned on the light to his apartment, calling out to no one, "I'm home.." Pathetic, truly. He hung up his grey trenchcoat and slipped his shoes off of his feet after locking the door behind him. Was he getting rusty at his job already? Was his peak over?
The redhead rubbed his hands down his face as he made his way into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him once his feet hit the cold tiles. He turned the shower on to a comfortably warm temperature, the type that practically boils your skin. He took time cleaning himself, all of his bodywashes and shampoos were top price for top quality, he enjoyed selfcare routines, but he didn't really have the time for that anymore considering his job. It was exhausting.
Once the detective was cleaned, he turned off the running water and grabbed a white fluffy towel, patting his face dry and ruffling his hair with the towel to try dry it a bit, it remained damp. He let out a sigh as he wrapped the towel around his waist and made his way into the bedroom to get dressed into his night outfit. He slipped on a white oversized pyjama shirt as well as some red pladded pyjama pants, both of which were 100% cotton and very comfortable.
Chuuya felt like he needed a drink, but honestly, he was far too tired for that, so he slumped onto his bed, breathing in relief as the soft fabric of the mattress surrounded him. As he did everynight, he tucked himself into bed with his head comfortably resting on the pillow, maybe he'd get a drink tomorrow night instead.. Hey.. Maybe he'll even invite that Dazai guy.. He fell asleep at that thought. A small smile tugging at his lips.
