Chapter Text
-Lily-
Everyone is born with a soulmate. You can't see color until you meet them for the first time. Sometimes when you meet them you see color right away, but sometimes it takes up to 24 hours. Once you can see color, whatever you right on your non dominant hand and arm appears on your soulmate's non dominant arm.
I've been able to see color since I was six years old. I'm not sure what childhood friend my soulmate could be. Most of them can't see color still. My cousin Hugo started seeing color about the same time. The only person in our family who saw color at a younger age was Victoire. She and Teddy met as babies, so neither of them ever remember not seeing color.
James can now see color but it came gradually and he doesn't know who his soulmate is yet. Albus starts hogwarts this year and hopes he'll finally see color. For now I'm enjoying my last few months of teasing him.
-Albus-
Today I finally get to go to hogwarts! No more James rubbing it in my face that he's already there. He's only a year older than me anyways. Hopefully I'll meet my soulmate and see color. It really is unfair that Lils has been able to see color since she was six. I mean seroiusly?!
I'm now walking down the isle of the hogwarts express looking for an empty compartment with Rose who's also starting at hogwarts this year. James, being the great big brother he is, ran off to go hang out with friends.
"This compartment looks empty," I said. I pushed the door open.
The compartment wasn't empty. (Guess who!)
A small, pale boy sat in the corner of the compartment reading. He looked up startled.
"Albus we can't sit here," Rose whispered.
"Why not?" I asked. Rose looked back and forth between Albus and the other boy. She whispered so the mystery kid couldn't hear.
"Al, he's a Malfoy! My Dad would kill me!" Looking at the boy a thought that I should have realised it sooner with the hair.
"I- I'm sorry," the boy said. "You can have this compartment. I'll leave."
"No. Stay," I said as I stepped inside. The boy looked surprised. I glanced back at Rose. She took a deep breath and stepped in after me.
"What's your name?" I asked as Rose and I sat down.
"Scorpius Malfoy," he said. He looked down at his lap. "You probably want to leave now. I don't think anyone would want to be seen with a Malfoy. Let alone a Potter and a Weasley."
"Better question: which brother am I?" I asked. I'd been confused with my brother James more times then you'd think.
"Probably Albus becuase I saw a bigger version of you earlier, and James is the older one," He said.
"You're good!" I acknowledged.
"Albus you and your siblings births were front page news," Rose said.
"Fine, Guess her!" I said pointing at Rose.
"I'm sorry, I don't know. There's three Weasleys in out year I believe," He said.
"Points for that," I said. Rose shrugged.
"Rose Granger-Weasley," she said. "The other two are Molly and Dominique,"
"Where are they? I didn't see them with you two."
"They have better older siblings than me," I said.
Later we reached Hogwarts and it was finally time for the sorting ceremony. I waited for anyone I knew to be sorted.
"Granger-Weasley, Rose."
"Gryfindor!"
A while later it was finally my turn.
Ahh another Potter...
Um hi?
Your brother, was simpler...
Is that an insult or a compliment?
Depends.
You'd do well in Slytherin. Are you willing to take the chance your father didn't take?
I don't want to be in Slytherin! None of my family is in Slytherin!
But what if...
-Rose-
"Slytherin!" I startled. What! Whispers filled the great hall.
"A potter in Slytherin?"
"No way!"
"Impossible!"
Another first year girl at the Gryfindor table scoffed.
"Please a Potter in Slytherin? This is ridiculous. What next? Is he a squib too?"
I turned to glare at her.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Polly Chapman."
"Well Polly Chapman, Albus is my cousin and I won't tolerate you berating him like that," I said.
"You're standing up for that Slytherin Squib!?" she shreiked.
"Yes, because he's my family."
(I hate it when Rose is a terrible person, so heres Rose standing up for Albus. :D)
-Albus-
Sitting at the Slytherin table next to Scorpius, I waited for the rest of my cousins to be sorted.
"Weasley, Dominique."
"Slytherin!!!"
Albus started as he heard his cousin sorted. Dominique bounced over looking completely unbothered by the whispers around the hall.
"Aren't all Weasleys Gryfindors?"
"No, there's two in Ravenclaw."
"A Weasley and A Potter!?"
Dominique dropped down next to me.
"Hello," she said.
"You don't seem bothered at all by this," I commented.
"Probably cuz I'm not," Dominique quipped.
"Is this one of you're other cousins?" Scorpius asked.
"Yup this is Dom," I replied.
After the chatter finally calmed, I saw Molly who had been sorted into Gryfindor. I waved at her and Rose.
Later that night.
-Scorpius-
I laid in my bed trying to fall asleep and failing.
24 hours. Thats how long it could take someone to see color after meeting their soulmate. Or it could happen instantly. Like it did to me. The second Albus opened the compartment door the world burst into color.
I knew it hadn't for him. He seemed like the kind of person who would say something. So I didn't say anything. At first I didn't think a Potter would want to even be my friend! But my soulmate? That was far fetched certainly.
He'll figure it out eventually. We're only in first year after all.
-Albus-
I opened my eyes on my first day at Hogwarts and realized something was different right away. Color! I could see color! Lily would stop teasing me! And, I must have met my soulmate at Hogwarts! Of course, that was still a lot of people my soulmate could be...
I ran over to my trunk and grabbed a quill. Dipping it into the ink, I wrote 'Hi!' on the back of my left hand. Now to wait.
