Homesick

Summary:

You made a deal for him to leave Earth alone, and get yourself as a reward - surprisingly he takes it. While he tours you around vast galaxies and civilizations beyond your wildest dreams, you get homesick; you can't help but miss Earth and the friends you made there in that town...

Work Text:

"And here is Cirone's - the planet I've brought you to currently stand on - famous Blood Blossom Forest." Bill Cipher gestured to the vast forest below the cliff you stood on. Crimson - nothing but crimson for as far as the eye could see. "They bloom yearly on this planet, although a year here is much different than a year that you're used to. Much longer."

Anyone in this situation would likely be amazed at the view; they would probably be taking pictures or taking a deep breath as they enjoyed the view, or maybe even thanking the person who brought them there.

You weren't doing any of those. "It's really pretty," you finally said, although your tone was to be desired.

Bill turned to you, glancing between you and the forest tops. He watched your expression for a moment, letting out a sigh. "I don't get it!" He threw his arms up.

You turned your head to him, brows raising. "Don't get what...?"

"You! I've taken you to countless dimensions! Planets that you hadn't even heard of! Civilizations that have achieved what you've only heard in concept! Places beyond your wildest dreams, and you're still only interested in Earth!"

     "Earth? What makes you thi--"

"I can read your mind, (Y/N), remember?"

"Then surely you know that it's not just Earth."

He waved a hand, "Yea, yea. I know you miss your friends and all that. If you're sooo homesick, maybe it's a good idea if you go back on our dea--"

"No! I don't want that! I never said that!" You sighed, your hand moving to pinch the bridge of your nose. "I just...I can't stop thinking about them. I miss them, Bill. This is all great and I'm very thankful for you taking me to all these amazing places. I really am! But at the same time, I just...I wish I could talk with them again..."

You couldn't help the frown that grew on your face. That damned deal, always the damn deal. Every time you mention how you miss your home, your friends, or any of the simple things on Earth -- he always points out how you can go back on it, which is absolutely not the case. He knows it. You know it.

On that crazy day - the day he had deemed Weirdmageddon - everything went south. He had thoroughly tricked everyone, including you, and it all came to a point. He got what he wanted - that physical form of his, he succeeded in disrupting the ritual, and he even got his hands on that formula...the one that broke the Gravity Falls Weirdness Magnetic Barrier. You remember watching it pop, hearing that sound and the shockwave that knocked you down onto the Fearamid floor. You can recall that maniacal cackle that rang from him, and in your haste to try to fix everything -- you called out to him, you told him you wanted to make a deal.

To this day you don't have the slightest clue why he accepted your offer. He had everything he had worked for, everything right at his fingertips - and yet he still took your ridiculously unimpressive offer. You told him that you'd go with him wherever he wanted and do whatever he wanted, so long as he leaves Earth and your friends alone.

Nearly a year after the fact, here you were being chaperoned by a triangle throughout the universes. You've seen so many wonderful and also terrifying things, but nothing beats the wonderful that was your friends...or the terrifying of the creatures in that wacky little town of Gravity Falls.

His eye followed your gaze as you looked away - squinting as you explained the thoughts he already knew about fully. "That's the point of all of this. Don't you see? You're supposed to be awestruck enough to forget about those suckers! Anyone in your shoes would!" He suddenly offered you his hand, gesturing for you to hurry up and take it.

With a roll to your eyes, you took his hand as a portal opened behind him. As he lead you through, you couldn't help but point out, "Humans are social creatures, Bill. We don't just up and forget about friends."

"Uh-huh, yea. Here, look at this!" He took hold of your chin and turned your head. "Look!"

You could see now that the crimson treetops that were previously below you now stood above you. Your gaze searched the view forced on you, until your eyes finally landed on an animal. It's figure resembled a deer, with darker colored fur - it's large antlers had leaves growing from it - crimson, just like it's habitat. Maybe the intent was to look like a small, growing tree of the forest? "Oh...wow." You brought your hand up to gently pull his away. "That's interesting. It's similar to white-tailed deer.."

     "Keep watching."

So you did watch as the deer kept still, observing as a small, red, squirrel-like critter scurried down the large tree the deer statued beside. The deer's head started turning slowly, looking up at the squirrel thing. A hand covered your mouth as that deer's face split, unhinged, and whipped out a large tongue - sticking onto the squirrel and pulling it into its now large maw. It snapped shut with a crunch and then turned its head, looking straight at you with it's three large, beady eyes.

"That...is no longer similar to white-tailed deer." You stated flatly, glancing at him. "I'm sure you enjoyed watching that, huh? Is that why you were so eager to show me?"

He let out a chuckle, adjusting his hat where it floated just a half an inch above himself. "Maaaybe." He hummed, "See? You wouldn't see something like that on Earth, would you? No! Except maybe at Gravity Falls, but..." He trailed off as he saw your expression - your stature changing to hug yourself. "...I think this is enough exploring for today. Let's go back to our place."

You nodded as another portal ripped open beside you; this time, however, he gestured to it and by routine you simply stepped through. Your eyes adjusted to the cooler colored, circular room that Bill deemed our place. It's just a simple bedroom, except the bed is in the middle and circular like the rest of the room. There are curved bookshelves lining the walls, with a two breaks in the pattern -- one to make room for a small table for two, the other to give access to a walk-in closet. Various things floated around: books, maps, pens and pencils, and even a couple of tiny stars that slowly cometed around the room in their own nonsense pathing.

You stepped over to the closet, entering it and closing the door behind you - preparing to put on some pajamas.

Meanwhile, Bill settled himself down on a floating chair he had manifested from nothing. A cup of tea floated on a small plate beside him as he fiddled with his hat, grumbling to himself.

When you finally emerged, you immediately walked to the bed and crawled onto it - finally plopping face first into some pillows. You felt your body relax as you sighed into the softness and--

     "(Y/N)?"

You hummed questioningly into the pillows.

"...if you want to see Earth, I could make you an identical copy of it."

You groaned and rolled onto your back. Surprise, surprise - he floated above you, sitting in his chair.

"I can! You know I can. I can recreate every frivolous thing about your home, you can practically go there and play along like it's the real thing - because it is."

"But I would know it isn't!"

"I can change that, too!" In his exclamation, he threw his hand up and knocked the tea over - although all it did was float out of the teacup.

You closed your eyes and sighed. "Bill, listen. I don't want your galaxies, your money, your riches - I especially don't want you to copy everything I hold dear," You shook your head, "I just miss home, Bill, I'll get over it eventually."

You turned over, your back facing to him. "Goodnight, Bill..."

He grabbed his hat and started squeezing it, watching you fall asleep. Thoughts raced through his mind. Should he go back to Earth? Just plop you back down there and do what he had originally planned? You were certainly a pain in the ass, especially today!

He leaned back in his chair as his grip on his hat tightened. He'll never understand it. He liberated his home dimension and he doesn't miss it in the slightest! Why are you so caught up on a rock with some eh people on it? Maybe he should put you back. It would be easier. Less...no, no your moodiness is not upsetting to him in the slightest! What a preposterous concept! He can just simply place you back down on that stupid little planet where you wanted to be SOOOO badly.

Though...he really didn't want to. This whole year, showing you all the weird things that the universes have to offer -- it's been nice. His thoughts drifted as he recalled how you were at the beginning, when you were thinking positive about the grand scheme of the arrangement. He remembered how kind you were, how patient and impressively curious you were. Everyplace he took you, everything had you light up with excitement - an excitement akin to seeing a puppy or hearing your favorite song play on the radio.

His grip on his hat loosened as he could practically hear that...that wonderful laugh of yours, that fantastically adorable squeal of yours, that--

He blinked, grumbling again before placing his hat back where it belonged - floating above his head. What was he to do? Maybe...maybe he could compromise? Oh, but what would that be? What could that be?

His hat leaped up, floating back down like a feather until it was back in place. "Ohhh, that's good. They'll like that, definitely..." He mused in his mind. Without a second thought to be documented by the author, he opened a portal and promptly left - leaving you to snooze away.

The sound of music stirred you a while later and you groaned softly, turning onto your back. Your hands snaked up and rubbed your eyes, blinking once. Twice. Three times before your vision cleared to observe the triangular figure who yet again floated above you.

He wasn't sitting in his chair this time and he had a record player floating in his company, playing the soft music that had woke you up. "Good morning!" He exclaimed, his hands behind his back, "Did you rest well, Brair Rose?"

You nodded, one of your brows raising slowly.

"Yea, yea. I know. Different from the usual way I wake you up. I figured today I'd spare you the constant cheek-poking..." He trailed off, "Besides--"

     "What's behind your back?"

     "A surprise!"

     You frowned.

"Not-- Not like that! A good surprise!" He floated backwards, giving you some breathing room. "How about you go put something fresh on and I'll...y'know...surprise you."

After you went and did exactly that...

"Alright, Cipher..." You started as you returned to him, "What's your game? What have you got scheming behind your back?"

"No schemes! Just a gift..." He brought the surprise into view - holding it out to you. "It's a crystal ball."

"Yea, I think I figured." You took it into your hands, observing it.

"It's meant to help us with our predicament." He looked you up and down, "You see, it's a gateway!"

You let the crystal ball sit on the palm of your hand by its little wooden stand. "A...what?"

"That's at least the most sensible way I can put it for you." He chuckled, "Just-- what do you think?"

"You've yet to tell me what it does." You looked back at him, "It...It's just a simple crystal ball or a gateway so far."

"Right. So you mentioned that you miss your friends back on Earth, right?" He floated around you, "What if I told you that the way mirrors are designed have their own unique properties?"

     "I'd say that's cool, but...how does that..." You blinked, "I don't understand."

"I did some thinking and figured you'd be more appreciative of the all the things I've shown you if you weren't homesick." He paused, "While I can't take you home, I can give you something to communicate with those who are--"

You gasped loudly, jumping in place. "You made me like a mirror phone?!" You squealed as he grabbed his hat to prevent it from leaping, "I--I can talk to my friends with this?!"

"Yes, but I need to show y--"

You turned to him, placing a kiss on where you'd presume his cheek would be on his small, triangular form. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!" You giggled and hurried over to the table, placing the Crystal Ball in the middle. In your excitement as you tried to bring the gift to life, you didn't notice him at all as he floated there -- practically frozen in place; His hat drifted off and his bow-tie was essentially a fan as he stared off into space. He was brought back when you let out an annoyed hum and he quickly grabbed his hat, laughing softly as he turned to go help you. "Now, now, hold on; let me show you how it works..."
