space song - beach house
(i recommend listening to this song while reading. it helps set the mood ^^)

hi :) i'm back with another story that isn't angst or dark because let's save those depressing headcanons for later episodes, yeah? i personally adore the silent disco scene (before the stranger came and ruined the fun), so this is an extension of their slow-dancing agenda i wish they prolonged. also, since now i know top is a hopeless romantic and has a stack of cheesy pick-up lines waiting to be spoken, i can safely say, i despise him a little less xD

anyway, i apologise for every error in this story as english isn't my first language. i hope this will make you feel good things before the upcoming storm. :')

thanks for reading. take care. x

[p.s. i make topmew edits too hehe.]
[p.p.s. i'm also on tumblr if anyone wants to say hi :)]

Work Text:

it's a slow jam, this time.

the shock that morphs across top's face, like a burning shooting star, colours his cheeks a faint shade of red under the changing lights. it's blue on the other side and sometimes green when it rains on them. other times, it's yellow. but it becomes purple when top smiles again. the surprise slowly subsides as acceptance settles in, no longer a distant luminary. he's the whole constellation now, twinkling and seething, and mew doesn't look away.

top mouths, "i've never heard of this song before!" and mew can't help but laugh— endeared— by the child-like novelty in top's voice, the joy that spreads like wildfire all over the dance floor as mew takes in the twist and turn of that expression close to his heart. top is figuring out the unfamiliar lyrics, possibly because it's not thai, and mew laughs because he's happy. it becomes a habit now, the blood that runs through his veins, to smile and cave a home in top's bright grin. and it's almost ludicrous how fast mew reaches out to top— his hands find their sanctuary against top's cheeks, feeling the smoothness of his skin and faint drops of sweat from the residual summer night heat.

there's a smile on mew's face that he can't hide, and it flourishes into a grin as top chases after him, nosing mew's palm with gentle pecks. mew's heart races and thunders, no longer a stagnant metronome of the music blaring in the headset— it's an orchestra of butterflies in his stomach and blooming tendrils all over his ribcage. as top circles his hands around mew's waist, reeling him in, the world dies down and it's just the two of them in the middle of the dance floor.

mew fixes top's headset, and the smile is of the nightlight brilliance. there's something in the glimmer of top's eyes that mew has never witnessed, like a lost star traversing the universe— mew's solar system— and landing safely at its fated destination— mew's heart. and gently, it falls apart; the walls mew built for years and years come crashing down in a blink.

he's so used to the comfort of celibacy. never once mew believed it was a vital tendency. but this crescendo of sizzling intimacy has mew questioning if it was always necessary— to cave into top in closer proximity. because there's so much going on between the decreasing space that has mew wanting to pluck a star of his own— of top and everything that twinkled in those eyes, a delightful catastrophe— can he?

so mew enters top's hemisphere and questions if he can ever stay here. mew knocks on the door and wonders if there's something more. mew meddles his way to top's world and tightens his hold. and mew whispers, knowing top won't hear this, a heartfelt, "i think i like you."

top quickly removes the right side of his headset, shouting a piercing, "huh?! what did you say, mew?!" at which mew shakes his head, keeping his secret at bay. top can't hear it yet— not here— where there are eyes observing top from a distance, wanting another taste of what's possibly mew's.

"hey, that's not fair!" top laments. a pout blooms, never-before-seen by mew, another fascinating discovery. mew doesn't know if it's the alcohol talking or knowing it's the heart reciting the poetry of profound infatuation, whispers of feelings obscured by fancy words and lyrical rhymes. but mew laughs again just because it feels so right. with top judging mew and the grip tightening around the waist, where else can mew go but here

so mew pinches top's nose and lets it bruise a soft crimson. top slaps mew's hand away, but mew catches top midair and entwines their fingers together. it's five against five, now ten under the sparkling disco ball. mew is never good with feelings, but this surge of warmth rippling in his heart is like those sentences mew read in a romance book. and it tastes so delicious that mew can almost nibble on the sweetness of this— love.

he looks up, and top holds his stare. the stars are winking at him, and mew topples into that realm. again and again.

as their foreheads connect, a new dwelling, mew takes another step closer. the tips of their shoes bump against each other, mew's converse and top's loafers, two different worlds finally finding a similar line that weaves them together.

and in this dizzying mayhem, mew breaches the boundaries.

he maintains top's stare, and gradually, like rupturing fireworks, mew leans in. he kisses top.

the explosion in his bosom almost burned the roof of mew's mouth, but top handles him tender, soothing the blaze with a swipe of his tongue. there's no space between their bodies now; mew is plastered against top as top is glued on mew. wandering hands finding vicinity, but it's always in the gaps and holes of their adjacency. mew cradles top ardently, and it's just them, the disco lights and the music playing softly through their headset, now a mere white noise.

top tastes sweet, and mew finds pleasure in this exchange. his tightening lungs scream for air, and top pulls away, breathing into mew's opened mouth, always putting mew's needs on the pedestal. but mew kisses top again because it feels right— it feels wanted and needed, and everything top desires during their late-night dates at mew's apartment or the quick trip to the convenience store. it's always something in top's eyes that paints an abstract portrait, waiting for mew's interpretation to unveil all those layered urges. mew hopes his assumptions are correct. with this kiss, he wishes he understood top through and through, no speculations but the truth.

the smile that breaks free from top's lips, mew tasted the honey on his own. so top keeps chasing, and mew keeps running, but it's mutual now. the foreground of his feelings for top is now out in the open. there's nowhere to hide.

and top looks into his eyes as their chest heave up and down, inhaling as much air in this swarm of bodies moving to the slow beat. the laughter bubbles away as the tension subsides, and top steals another peck before he moves mew's headphones slightly from covering his ears. "now, i've truly gone blind by my love for you."

it's cheesy, almost nasty, but mew agrees it's tasty, and he smiles, nonetheless, a sensation so lofty that his heartbeat pumps another sixty.

mew mirrors top's action as he removes the right side of his headphones anew, asking, "how many times are you planning to woo me?"

and top laughs. heartily. carefree. "infinite," he answers, and their worlds tune into each other again.

as top sways their bodies to another song, this time a sensual r&b, he feels every part of top becoming one with all pieces of mew, and it's groundbreaking.

top isn't just a body and soul, but he's a body with a soul— and that core— mew wants to have it all to himself.

all eyes are on them, but mew's attention is on top, and top's focus is on mew. it's enough.
