Work Text:

"Hey baby… can I talk to you for a moment?" Cody said, as he walked over to Noah, who was sitting on their couch, reading a book. He glanced up for a moment, before slowly placing the bookmark between the pages he was on, giving Cody his full attention.

"Yeah, sure. What's up?"

Cody hesitated for a bit, fiddling with his fingers. Once he collected his thoughts, he sighed, plopping down next to Noah. The ladder looked at him, with a furrow of his eyebrows, concerned. "Hey, what's wrong, sweetheart?"

"Well… Do you think my tooth gap is ugly..?" He finally muttered out, which caught Noah so off guard, he didn't know what to say.

Noah was never the best at comforting people, Cody knew this, though he never had a problem with it. Well, that is until they were in situations like these, especially with how easily upset Cody got.

"Uhm, no. Not at all… Why do you ask??"

"I just- I don't know. I just feel like everytime I smile or laugh… I look stupid..", Cody muttered, as he looked down, eyes droopy.

"Well- I think-" Noah thought for a moment, as Cody looked up at him. He looked over for a moment, seeing the curiosity in Cody's eyes. "I think you look fine. You shouldn't worry."

And that was the trigger to the bomb.

"I- I see. Alright", Cody said, balling his fists up, before standing up slowly, leaving Noah to himself.

It didn't take a complete brainiac to realize what was said wrong in that exchange, though Noah pondered on it for a moment, before putting the pieces together. Though Cody never asked for too much, he sometimes wished Noah would try a little more; try to dig a little deeper, though he could never muster up the courage to say it to Noah.

Without hesitation, Noah stood up, and swiftly made his way to their bedroom. The door was shut, which alerted Noah to knock. However, before he did, he put his ear up to the door, hearing very faint crying from the other side. At that moment, Noah knew what he had to do. He knocked lightly, "Sweetheart..?"

… Silence; until he heard Cody tell him to come in. He quickly opened the door, seeing his boyfriend laying on his side, facing the wall opposite the door. Noah sat down on his side of the bed, as the pair sat in silence for a moment.

"I'm not mad at you, you know..?" Cody said, which made Noah turn to look at him. "I just…" he sat up, "I wish you would try more… I understand comforting isn't your strong suit, but I don't expect you to be an absolute poet. Just something, anything that would help a little.. I'm sorry, I know I should have told you this earlier. Guess I'm not that good at conveying my feelings either…" Cody laughed a bit, as he rubbed his eyes. Noah frowned, as he shifted his body, embracing Cody in a tight hug.

"You don't have to be sorry. I know I should try a little more, and that's my bad. And you know what I think about your tooth gap? I think it suits you well, and your smile is beautiful, sweetheart. No matter what you look like, I'll never stop loving you", Noah said, smiling.

Cody smiled and laughed, dragging Noah down on the bed with him, "What a dork you are!"

"Me? A dork? Yeah, sure. Says the biggest dork in this room", which made Noah start laughing as well. The pair stayed laying there together in silence, before Cody looked up at Noah.

"I love you!" Noah rolled his eyes, then smiled, "Yeah… I love you too.."
