Work Text:
The last thing Steve wants after realising how fucked up his childhood left him was to follow in his father's footsteps, or any part of the plans his parents had for his life, so he doesn't. They expect these minimum wage jobs to encourage him to aim for college and office work, but really it makes him want control over which customers he serves and how much is charged.
With Robin he starts joking about different things he could do to enable that and while artist comes up, it feels too pretentious for Steve to take seriously. The drawing and artwork element though? That's something he can get behind. He even starts letting Will come to his for peace and quiet where they can draw together, and during one of these afternoons Will mentions asking Eddie if there's a way for El to get her number removed or covered.
That puts the thought of doing tattoos in Steve's mind and he's all too willing to take El when she decides on a cover up tattoo to find out how he can do that as a job.
It's definitely worth it the first time during his training that Eddie comes in and freezes at the sight of him behind the counter.
