Chapter Text
Link huffed, pushing through the dense foliage covering the supposed entrance to the Shrine of Resurrection. “You’re sure it’s here?”
His guide sighed (something that Link would have thought to be impossible for someone without lungs, but here he was), answering the young hero’s question for at least the fourth time. “Yes, it’s here, I can feel it. Just keep going.”
Link groaned as he paused to slice through some particularly troublesome vines. He opened his mouth to complain again, but before he could, the Master Sword’s blade swung further than he expected it to, and Link stumbled through a newly revealed opening in the rock.
The young hero caught his footing, then glanced around to see that he had wandered into a cavern of sorts. The floor continued for a few feet, then dropped sharply. Looking over the edge, Link could see a small puddle of water a little bit below him. Continuing from there, a short staircase led into a wider room full of boxes, barrels, and two chests. While the walls in the chamber were interesting, what caught Link’s eye was the stone door at the other end of the room. It was intricately carved, with seams running from top to bottom and Sheikah runes covering its surface. Link carefully made his way down from the small ledge he stood on, approaching the door.
Link examined the seams, recalling Purah’s instructions. “Remember, when you get to the door, you’ll have to pry it open with the Master Sword. That door is designed to open only for the Sheikah Slate, but the Master Sword should be able to lever it open without breaking. And ONLY PUSH IT UPWARDS, you hear?!”
He shook his head, smiling at the Director’s words. She could get a little intense, but she meant well. Link placed the tip of the legendary blade under the bottom edge of the door, made sure it was secure, and then pushed. The sword wedged tight against the door, but the stone didn’t budge. The hero sighed and pulled out the Cobble Crusher he had retrieved from Goron City in anticipation of this particular problem. He lined up his weapon with the hilt of the Master Sword, offered a quick prayer to the Goddess, and swung downwards with all his might.
THUD!
The stone door shot up like a rocket, and Link dove through the opening, grabbing his sword as he went. The door crashed down immediately after, and Link had the feeling that it would have crushed him had he taken a moment longer.
Shaking off the nerves that came with being almost crushed, the hero felt his breath leave him as he finally took in his surroundings.
Constellation-like patterns spanned the walls of the chamber, the connected “stars” glowing with an orange light that reminded Link of the Sheikah tech in Purah and Robbie’s labs. A bright blue light drew his attention to the center of the room, where a large basin of water was slowly draining. Link’s heart dropped as he remembered what this place was supposed to be. “The last Hero was fatally injured in his efforts to protect Princess Zelda. He was placed in the Shrine of Resurrection in the hopes that he could be revived. Unfortunately, your very presence, Link, means that the Hero before you succumbed to his injuries and passed his spirit on to you. You must find the Sheikah Slate left for him to find if he were to awaken. You must use the Slate to carry on his legacy and finish what he started. You must defeat Calamity Ganon.”
