"Nanami, you have a new mission," Commander Hatori's voice crackled through the phone, interrupting the stillness of the night.
Nanami had been anxiously pacing around the room, the weight of his next assignment heavy on his mind. "What is it, Commander?" he asked, a hint of unease creeping into his voice.
"A curse," Hatori began, "has been wreaking havoc on restaurants across the city. It's sly, cunning, and has evaded exorcists for months. We believe it to be a powerful spirit with a grudge."
Nanami's heart sank. The curse he had been dreading. "Where's my next assignment?" he inquired, bracing himself for the answer.
Hatori hesitated for a moment before revealing, "Tiana's, Nanami. Your wife's restaurant is the next target."
Nanami's world seemed to shatter in that instant. His thoughts raced as he tried to call Tiana, his fingers trembling as he pressed her number on his phone. Ring after ring, there was no answer, and a gnawing fear tightened in his chest. Tiana always picked up his calls, no matter how busy she was.
Panicked, Nanami rushed out the door, not bothering to change out of his exorcist uniform. The journey to Tiana's restaurant felt like an eternity. His mind was a whirlwind of worry, the image of her face haunting him.
When he arrived at Tiana's, a heavy feeling of dread settled over him like a dark cloud. The restaurant's sign flickered ominously in the night, and there was an eerie stillness that hung in the air.
"Nanami," a familiar voice whispered from the shadows. He followed the sound, his heart pounding, and there she lay—Tiana, on the floor in a pool of her own blood.
"Tiana!" Nanami screamed, rushing to her side, his hands trembling as he cradled her lifeless body. Her necklace, the one with their cherished picture, lay nearby, open and splattered with her blood. Her face bore a heartbreaking expression, as if she had been crying.
"No, no, Tiana, please," Nanami sobbed, his tears falling onto her cold, lifeless skin. "Wake up, my love. Please, wake up."
The curse, sensing Nanami's despair, revealed itself. It materialized before him, a malevolent spirit with a sinister grin. "You cared for her, didn't you?" it taunted, its voice dripping with malice.
Nanami's sorrow turned into rage. He clenched his fists, determination blazing in his eyes. "You took everything from me," he growled, drawing his exorcism talismans. "I won't let you hurt anyone else."
The battle between Nanami and the curse was fierce, but with his determination and the memory of Tiana's smile, he fought back with everything he had. As the curse weakened, Nanami could hear faint whispers, Tiana's voice calling his name.
With a final, powerful exorcism, Nanami defeated the curse, and it dissipated into the night. Breathing heavily, he collapsed beside Tiana, tears streaming down his face. He held her lifeless body in his arms, longing for one last moment with her.
In her final moments, Tiana's voice grew stronger, calling out to him. "Nanami," she whispered, her voice filled with love and longing.
Nanami's heart ached as he whispered back, "I'm here, Tiana."
With a contented smile, Tiana's spirit faded away, leaving Nanami alone in the silent, empty restaurant. He had avenged her death, but the pain of losing his beloved would never truly fade. The curse was gone, but its scars remained, etched into Nanami's heart forever.
The days after Tiana's tragic death were the darkest Nanami had ever known. His life, once filled with love and happiness, had become an agonizing abyss. The restaurant they had built together was now a haunting reminder of the laughter and joy they had shared. Every corner of their home echoed with her absence, and every meal was tasteless without her presence.
Nanami's nights were the worst. He couldn't sleep without feeling her warm body beside him, and the bed they had shared for years felt empty and cold. Every dream was plagued by her memory, and every morning, he woke up with tears staining his pillow.
Tiana's mother, knowing the depths of her son-in-law's despair, tried her best to support him. She would come over often, bringing food and trying to coax him into eating. But Nanami's appetite had disappeared, and he couldn't stomach anything without being reminded of Tiana's cooking.
"Nanami," she would say, her voice filled with sadness, "I know you loved my daughter deeply, and she loved you just as much. But you can't let her death consume you like this. She wouldn't want you to suffer like this."
But Nanami couldn't hear her. His world had collapsed, and he couldn't see a way out of the darkness that had enveloped him. He missed Tiana's laughter, her smile, the way she would hold his hand when he was scared, and the sound of her voice in the morning.
One fateful day, as the sun set, casting long shadows through the empty restaurant, Tiana's mother visited Nanami again. She knocked on the door, but there was no response. She felt a sinking feeling in her heart, fearing the worst.
Using her spare key, she entered the house and found Nanami lifeless in the bedroom, a rope hanging from the ceiling. His face was peaceful in death, as if he had found solace in finally reuniting with Tiana.
Tiana's mother screamed in anguish, her heart breaking anew. She had lost her daughter and now her son-in-law, both taken by the curse that had brought such tragedy into their lives.
Nanami was buried beside Tiana, their graves side by side, just as their love had been in life. The restaurant that had once been a symbol of their happiness now stood as a somber reminder of the love that had been torn apart by a malevolent curse.
Tiana's mother, left with the memories of her daughter and the son-in-law she had come to love, visited their graves often, praying that their souls had found peace together in the afterlife. The curse had taken two lives, but it could never extinguish the love that had bound Nanami and Tiana together, even in death.
