Chapter 1: Blue Beauty and Brubot Blues

Chapter Text

As the curtains closed on Dave Brubot’s most recent performance, he walked backstage with his usual jaunty walk. Yet…he’s been doing this for how long now? And he had nothing to show for it. Yes he had money, fame, power, everything a cog could ask for. But he still felt as though he was lacking something. But the show must go on nonetheless. So he kept performing and performing…and performing…to be honest it was all starting to bleed together, almost like white noise to him. Until one fateful night, he spotted her. A lone cog sitting amongst the crowd, with poofy cloud like hair and what looked like tears streaming down her face. She looked somehow both sad and beautiful at the same time, like a haunting and ethereal spirit almost. Of course, Dave knew who she was, it was Misty Monsoon, The Rainmaker. But he had never seen her face before, let alone interacted with her. He was utterly entranced.

Later that night, his performance was coming to an end. He had found himself still thinking of her, sitting alone and sad. He desperately wished he could help, but Dave was no ordinary cog, infact, he might not even be a cog at all. There is a chance that Misty wouldn’t understand, she might get scared and tell the others who he really is. Forcing him to leave this plane of existence. After all, he wasn’t sent here to help people. He looked out the window of his dressing room, seeing Mx Monsoon standing out in the cold and the rain, she was gripping tightly to her raincoat as it was about to fly away in the blustering wind. Dave knew he had to take a chance. A risk, but a worthy one.

Misty sighed to herself as she gripped onto her jacket tightly. It was yet another night of her ex ignoring her calls, her letters, her emails, her showing up to his office…perhaps she was too clingy…all she wanted was a second chance! Was that so wrong! Just thinking about it made her more and more upset, as the wind and rain only grew stronger. Causing her jacket to fly off.

“Wait no! Come back!” She yelled to her jacket as if it was a sentient being and not an inanimate object. (But this is Toontown, so it could’ve been sentient for all we know.) But the jacket continued to fly away. But suddenly, out of nowhere. A hand grabbed her jacket. Misty looked up to see none other than the one and only Dave Brubot. Normally she’d be fangirling but tonight she was just too sad to muster up anything more than a whimper.

Dave reached down and gently handed the coat to Misty. “I b-b-buu-leave this is yours, babe?” He said with a gentle twinkle in his shades as the raindrops on Misty’s hair reflected in his glasses. The rain seemed to die down a bit as Misty’s eyes held a faint smile. She thought to herself: Perhaps there is someone who cares about her.
