Work Text:

Campus was the last place Rain wanted to be. At home he could escape, at home he was safe away from Phayu, Being on campus meant he could run into Phayu at any point. As he walked to and from class he made sure to keep an eye out. Surprisingly, by the time he was ready to go home, he hadn’t seen Phayu.

Rain walked to his car, about to open the door when he was grabbed. He tried to scream but a hand covered his mouth before he could. He was pressed back against someone, being dragged. Rain began to fight, squirm in the person’s grip.

This person dragged Rain back to a car, opening the passenger door, putting him in. Finally Rain was able to see just who this attacker was. He gasped, trying to fight them more. They were stronger, latching the seat belt, looking Rain in the eyes.

“Phayu, what the fuck are you doing?!” Rain shouted.

“You refuse to listen to me no matter what I do. So I’m taking things into my own hands.” Phayu said, leaning out of the car, closing the door. He moved quickly to the driver’s side, getting in and locking the doors.

“You’re absolutely insane. If you think this is going to make things better you’re oh so horribly wrong. Let me go.” Rain glared at Phayu. Phayu had his hand on the seatbelt making it so Rain couldn’t get out.

“If you would just give me the time to explain things, I wouldn’t have to do things like this.” Phayu said.

“Oh, so it’s my own fault I’m being kidnapped?! What the fuck Phayu!”

“Rain. Stop. That’s not what I mean and you know it.” Phayu said. The look in his eyes made a shiver run down his spine. It was yet again, another look he hadn’t seen from Phayu before. It was angry, leaving no room to argue.

“I’m just going to take you to a place where we can talk. Figure things out. You’re not being kidnapped. If you truly want away, you can unlock and open that door right now. But I’m begging you. Give me this chance.” Phayu’s look softened. It was almost like he was going to cry, his voice shaking on the word chance. Rain huffed, crossing his arms.

“Fine.” Rain said, turning to look out the window. Phayu sighed, turning the car on. The drive felt like it took forever. Neither one spoke, the muffled sound of the radio the only thing filling the silence. When they arrived at their destination, Rain fought the urge to run. He instead let Phayu lead him through his large home up to his room.

Every movie in the world told Rain that this was a horrible idea. Going to a strange man’s room, in an empty home, nothing good could come out of this. Phayu motioned for Rain to sit on his bed, while he grabbed his computer chair, rolling it to be in front of Rain.

“I need you to not interject. Wait for me to tell you everything before trying to fight with me.” Phayu said as he sat down. Rain grumbled something under his breath but nodded anyway. Phayu sighed, leaning back in the chair a bit. He thought for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to explain himself.

“At first, I didn’t know it was you.” Phayu admitted. Rain went to say something in response, but Phayu held up his hand. Rain instantly stopped the word in his throat, glaring instead.

“When we played together for the first time, I didn’t know it was you. I wasn’t planning on keeping myself a secret. Just, you never gave me a chance to talk to you. When I found out it was you, I didn’t come clean because I was just happy I had a way to talk to you. I wanted to tell you, but you always kept saying that you hated me. I want you to know I don’t think you’re stupid, but every time I said it, you did better in class. It wasn’t me trying to be mean. I genuinely just wanted you to succeed. I don’t know why I went about it the way I did and for that I’m truly sorry. I wasn’t planning on keeping it a secret, I wanted to tell you, I just didn’t know how.” Phayu took a deep breath, rubbing his face with his hands.

“When I saw you at the party, I wanted to tell you. I tried to give you a hint by calling you prince because I always called you that as Monsoon. When I went to your house, I wanted to tell you but you pushed me away again. So I’m here now. I am Monsoon. and I meant every word I said to you. I want to be with you, take care of you, protect you.” When he finished speaking, Rain was speechless. How was he even supposed to respond to that? He felt like crying, screaming, running, and just giving up all at once. Phayu waited patiently for Rain, letting him take all the time he needed to process.

“How do I know this isn’t just some elaborate prank? How can I be sure this isn’t just a horrible way to hurt me?” Rain said finally. Phayu pulled out his phone, scrolling to a part in his and Prapai’s conversation.

“Here. Feel free to scroll through.” He handed the phone to Rain.

———

“Fizzyrain is Rain.”

“i’m finally getting a chance to talk to him.”

“He’s so cute, I didn’t think I could like him more than I already do. Every day he proves me wrong.”

“How do I tell him the truth? I hate that I’m hurting him.”

“I’m so afraid to lose him Prapai.”

“I think I’m dating him now? Well Monsoon is.”

“He just called me his sugar daddy. What even is my life now?”

“Every time I see him now it gets harder to hold myself back. I need him to know it’s me. I just don’t know how to.”

“Do you know how hard it was for me to see him today, dressed like that, and not be able to do anything? I hate that I’ve become like this.”

“There’s someone else? I didn’t know he liked someone else. Maybe I should just let this end.. It might hurt him less.”

“I can’t give up. He needs to know.”

“I’ve ruined everything. I don’t know how to fix this.”

———

Rain let out a shaky breath, tears dripping onto the screen of the phone. He wasn’t lying. This whole situation was messy, and almost ruined him, but it was because neither one had any way of communicating. Rain always shut down Phayu’s chances because he couldn’t handle if the truth was a complete lie. Phayu just didn’t want to hurt Rain. Warm air, cold air, swirling together creating a tornado that destroyed everything near it.

“I meant every word.” Phayu whispered. Rain handed him back his phone, shaking his head. What could he say? What should he say? Phayu’s heart clenched seeing Rain shake his head. Whatever was coming Phayu deserved, he just wasn’t ready to hear it. He would never be ready to see Rain walk out of his life forever.

Rain wiped the tears from his cheeks, trying desperately to calm himself down. He knew he should be angry. He should want to scream and tell Phayu off. None of what he had done was okay, or sane, but maybe neither was Rain. He looked up at Phayu, a small smile forming on his lips.

“Are you going to kiss me or?”

Phayu’s eyes widened. That was the last thing he was expecting Rain to say. There was nothing in Rain’s eyes telling him this was a joke. However with every second that passed without Phayu doing something, worry and nervousness took over. Finally Phayu got up. He stood in front of Rain, making him look up to see his face. He leaned down, placing a hesitant kiss to Rain’s lips.

Rain’s hands moved to cup Phayu’s face, returning the kiss. It was awkward. Nothing like any of the first kisses anyone would see in movies. Both of them were scared and unsure. Then, Phayu relaxed. He realised Rain wasn’t pulling away, wasn’t running, wasn’t shoving him away. He deepened the kiss, his hand moving to the back of Rain’s head, pressing him more into it.

“I’m so sorry..” Phayu whispered against Rain’s lips. Rain gave Phayu a couple small kisses, sniffling.

“I forgive you.” Rain responded. “But if you ever hurt me again Phayu, you’re not making it to graduation.” Phayu couldn’t help but laugh at Rain’s words. He cupped Rain’s face, his thumbs wiping away his tears.

“I promise, I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you. I will never hurt you again.”
