Pairing: Lucius Malfoy/James Potter
Prompt: (AU) Soulmates
When James Potter awoke on his sixteenth birthday, he felt a mixture of terrified and excited. At sixteen, a witch or a wizard received their soulmark – as long as their soulmate was the same age or older. James was certain he would receive his soulmark.
Sitting up, James reached for his wand. He performed a nonverbal privacy spell, wanting to ensure he wouldn’t be disturbed. It was hard to guess with his friends and roommates. Sirius Black was equally like to leave James alone or attempt to wake up him with whip cream pie to the face again. Remus Lupin would leave him, and Peter Pettigrew was likely to fling the curtains open.
James took a deep breath before he pushed the sleeve of his pajamas up his right arm. There was a neat cursive was the name of his soulmate.
Lucius Abraxas Malfoy .
He felt a mixture of excitement with a hint of disappointment. James had hoped his soulmate would be Lily Evans.
At least he knew his soulmate.
Lucius had graduated two years ago.
Waving his wand, James cast a nonverbal Concealment Charm. The Concealment Charm was a charm of his own invention that would disguise the user’s soulmark.
With the Concealment Charm in place, James quickly got up and he got ready for the day, managing to avoid any surprises from Sirius. Grabbing his bag, James went down to the common room and he wrote two letters before setting off for the owlery.
The letter to his parents was sent using a school barn owl and the letter to Lucius was sent with Apollo, his personal owl.
James watched Apollo with his heart beating quickly.
