Summary: With some help from her friends, Lavender Brown found the perfect outfit.
there’s no time for tears
Holding back a sniffle, Lavender Brown looked through her clothes as she tried to plan her outfit. The break-up was a week ago, and it was time to show Ron Weasley what he was missing out on. He would be sorry that he let her go. As far as the Hogwarts rumor mill was concerned, it was a mutual break-up with Lavender being the bigger person when she realized Ron was interested in Granger. Any whispers of Ron dumping Lavender were ignored.
Lavender forced herself to take a deep breath. She would not start crying now. Enough tears had been shed over Ron Weasley. He wasn’t worth another.
Slowly, she sorted through her clothes. She needed the perfect outfit.
“What about your new robes?” Parvati Patil suggested, looking up from her Divinations textbook.
Lavender frowned. “They’re not the right color,” she answered, shaking her head.
Her best friend made a noise before returning to the textbook.
Closing her eyes, Lavender barely refrained from rolling them. She knew Parvati didn’t support her relationship with Ron, but she was no help.
With another deep breath, Lavender opened her eyes and she resumed looking through her clothes. She paused when she found a short pleated black skirt. This skirt was shorter than any she usually wore.
When did she get this?
Feeling brave, Lavender grabbed the skirt. She pulled on a pair of black tights before pulling on the black skirt.
This was definitely shorter than her usual skirts.
She liked it. There was something about this skirt.
Her attention returned to her clothes. She needed to find something to go with the skirt. Maybe her outfit could be daring as well as cute.
Her eyes fell on a white blouse with a collar. The blouse was quickly buttoned up.
“You should wear the sweater from your cousin,” Parvati said, excitement in her tone.
Frowning, Lavender looked at her best friend. “The big one?” she asked.
Parvati nodded.
Lavender turned to her trunk. When she received this skirt from Ivy, she tossed it in her trunk. Ivy had elegant clothes and she was always stylish. Lavender took a lot of inspiration from her cousin.
The sweater was dusty pink and two sizes too big.
When the sweater was on, Lavender turned to look at herself in the mirror. She frowned. The sweater covered most of her skirt.
“Pull your collar out,” Parvati said as she got up. “I’m gonna ask Fay for her black boots.” She rushed out of the dorm room.
Looking at her reflection, Lavender pulled the collar out. She smiled. This looked so cute! She twirled in front of the mirror.
The door opened as Lavender continued to study her reflection. She could see the stunned face of Fay Dunbar.
“Wow,” she muttered, looking transfixed. She took a few steps toward Lavender, her gaze unmoving. “You look amazing!:
Lavender smiled, warmth filling her chest. This was the reaction she wanted.
“I’m thinking your black combat boots,” Parvati said, walking in behind Fay.
Fay looked over Lavender’s outfit. Her hazel eyes lingered on the other girl’s legs. “No,” she said with a shake of her head. “My knee-high black boots would be better.”
The blonde walked over to her bed and crutched down. She pulled a large box out from underneath.
It was a scarlet box with CeCe by Designed embossed on the top and there was a black ribbon with a bow. Fay stood up, placing the box on her bed.
Curious, Lavender and Parvati moved closer. They watched as Fay untied the ribbon and removed the lid, revealing a few layers of scarlet tissue paper.
Fay pushed the tissue paper aside. The boots were leather with a three-inch heel and a decorative buckle. A pair of black socks were between the two boots.
“Those are better,” Parvati agreed. “I don’t recognize CeCe by Design.”
Smiling, Fay nodded. “CeCe Daniels. My brother works at her bouquet on Morning Dew.”
Lavender nodded, recognizing the name. CeCe Daniels graduated three years ago – she was in the same year as Oliver Wood and Percy Weasley.
“All yours,” Fay said with a wink as she motioned Lavender over.
With a smile, Lavender skipped over. She pulled on the black socks, noting they come up to her knees. The boots were easy to pull on and zip up.
Turning to Parvati and Fay, she asked, “How do I look?”
“Amazing,” Parvati replied.
“Stunning,” Fay whispered with starry eyes.
Lavender felt her breath catch as she caught Fay’s hazel eyes.
“What’s the occasion?” Fay asked. Her gaze dropped to Lavender’s legs.
“Nothing really,” Lavender answered with a small smile. “I just felt like a change.”
Fay hummed. “It’s a really good change,” she said.
“Yes, it is,” Lavender agreed with a smirk.
It was time for a big change. Lavender was done dating boys. It was time for a girl, and she knew just the girl.
