Work Text:
"Are you sure you won't need this?" The question falls from Yoohyeon's peach colored lips as she slips the oversized hoodie over her head, standing in front of the gates of the campus.
"I'm sure." Minji nods reassuringly, putting a comforting hand on Yoohyeon's shoulder. "My apartment is just around the corner, but you have to take the subway."
Minji is right, Yoohyeon knows, she just doesn't want to seem like she's using her senior. The brunette has been so kind to her ever since the year started, often treating her to lunch and snacks, or walking her to classes, helping her with homework and many other things. Yoohyeon doesn't want to think so much into it, but it does make her feel special, because the other girl wouldn't do this for anyone else, but her.
So when she hugs Minji goodbye she really hopes she can't feel the pounding in her chest, both from the close proximity and the warmth of not only the hug, but the sweatshirt as well.
They part ways and Yoohyeon makes sure she is a good distance away from the other girl before she grabs the neck of the hoodie to pull it to her nose. She takes a deep breath, butterflies waking up in her stomach just from the simple scent of the other girl, and she pulls on the hood both for warmth and comfort as she walks to the subway in the chilly march sunset.
She can't stop thinking about Minji on her way home, to be honest, the other girl lives on her mind rent free and she wouldn't mind if she actually moved in with her.
She's sure Siyeon and Bora wouldn't mind it, being the loud prankster and dumbass couple they are, they'd probably enjoy having another person around who they can mess with.
"YOOHYEONIEEEE, SINGNIE ALMOST SET THE KITCHEN ON FIRE." Is the first thing she hears as soon as she opens the door to the chaotic apartment she's been calling home ever since university started. However, right now even the fact that Siyeon almost made them homeless doesn't make her panic, she just walks into the kitchen with a giddy smile.
"But you both are okay, right?" She asks as she checks her best friends up and down, making sure they both have eyebrows and hair.
"Yeah!" Bora smirks knowingly and wiggles her eyebrows at Yoohyeon, obviously noticing the unfamiliar clothing piece on her.
"Why are we smirking?" Siyeon asks with confusion in her voice as she bites into a disgustingly burnt cookie and Yoohyeon gets concerned for a second, but she realizes it's Siyeon we are talking about.
"Babe, that is most definitely not Yooh's sweatshirt." Bora swings her arm around Siyeon's shoulder and ruffles her hair, realization coming to Siyeon as her eyes widen.
"IS IT...YOU KNOW WHOSE?" Siyeon lets out her signature laugh as she reaches out to pull Yoohyeon in a hug.
"YES!" Yoohyeon yells back enthusiastically, hugging both of her friends back before she pulls away and hops on the counter, ready to tell them everything.
----
"Fuck." Minji mumbles as she gets up from the floor. She's been looking for her iPods for the past 20 minutes, unsuccessfully may she add. "Where the fuck is it."
She can't believe she's this unlucky, and groans in frustration when she realizes her earbuds are attached to the device as well.
"DONGIE, YUBINIE, GAHYEONIE." she yells as she exits her room, hoping that her best friends have seen it somewhere. "Have you guys seen my iPods anywhere?"
The living room goes quiet for a second, the trio looks up from their Nintendo Switches before laughter erupts and fills the tiny room.
"I don't know, grandma." Handong teases, "I haven't seen one since like 2010." she giggles mischievously, making Minji snorts as well, and Gahyeon bursts out laughing.
"Yubinie, help me out?" she plops down next to the trio with a desperate sigh, burying her face into her tanned arms.
"You took it with you this morning, so you might have lost it at the campus?" Yubin asks and puts down her Switch, a really rare thing, but right now she sees how panicked Minji is.
Minji starts to think as three curious pairs of eyes keep scanning her facial expressions and that's when it hits her.
It's in the pocket of her sweatshirt. The one that she gave to Yoohyeon.
---
It's past 10pm when Yoohyeon decides maybe it's time to get changed into a loose shirt, even though she doesn't really want to get out of the sweatshirt Minji gave her.
Out of habit she reaches into the pockets once she takes it off, as she often tends to forget paper tissues, her air pods or keys in the pockets of big hoodies.
She lets out a surprised giggle when she finds an old iPod. It's cute, she thinks, how Minji uses one of these instead of simply having music on her phone.
She knows curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction always brought it back.
So she crawls into her bed, clinging onto the device. She hesitates at first, however the more she thinks about it, the less guilty she feels. It's basically like if she followed her on spotify and looked through her playlists.
With a fast motion she opens up the iPod and goes to the songs, and starts to smile widely. Minji does have an amazing music taste, a variety of many genres mixing in her downloaded songs.
She switches to the playlists, and not much to her surprise there are many little files popping up on the screen.
Dance. Pretty self explanatory, Yoohyeon believes, plus she knows Minji is training at a company so it's not a surprise for her to find that as the most recently played playlist.
Driving. Once again, that's something Yoohyeon also has downloaded on her carplay. Much to her surprise, the songs on this playlist are the type of tunes that would make you go over the speed limit and miss a red light. She takes a mental note to use seatbelt if she ever drives with Minji.
With the girls. Yoohyeon smiles softly at the screen, a little string in her heart pulls knowing that she has a playlist that she listens to with her roommates. It's endearing and she starts to feel love in her chest pool for the other girl.
Partyyyy people. Now a soft giggle escapes her lips, realizing she has heard this playlist during Minji's new years party.
The next playlist however, makes her eyes practically fall out of her head. She has to read not once, not twice but three times, and with each read her heartbeat seems to fasten.
Yootoni <3
She has to blink away the surprise and covers her mouth in order to muffle the excited shriek that is threatening to escape her lips. She just found a playlist on Minji's iPod titled with her nickname. She tries her best to wrap her mind around the situation, but she just decides to press play, letting the songs speak to her.
Looking Out for You by Joy Again comes on, that's when tears well up in her eyes, because this is literally the same song that she connects to Minji.
She is way too shy to tell her how she feels about her, how her heart leaps out of her chest whenever Minji laughs and smiles, how she literally forgets her own name when Minji hugs her or holds her hand.
To know that the other girl feels the same way about her, it doesn't take her long to put the sweatshirt back on and practically leap out of her room and run to the front door, hastily putting on her shoes.
She just yells a haphazard "I'm leaving, bye guys." to Bora and Siyeon who are cuddling on the couch in the living room, watching a drama Bora has been addicted to lately.
She hears Siyeon yell back "Be careful and text us!" as she shuts the door behind herself and starts running down the stairs with quick steps.
Thankfully Seoul is a really safe place so despite the late time in the night, she doesn't have fear of running alone on the street at night, she's actually trembling from nervousness, because she is about to go to Minji's apartment and confess to her.
She knows it might be crazy and even hesitates for a second, but when Out of my mood comes on as the next song on the playlist, she is filled with determination again, her veins getting ignited as she runs past the campus and takes the familiar left turn to arrive at Minji's block.
She stands under the 10 story building, catching her breath for a few seconds, and presses the ring to the Kim Minji, Kim Handong, Lee Yubin, Lee Gahyeon" apartment before she could change her mind.
It doesn't take a long time at all, it's like she was sitting by the intercom waiting for it to ring, but Yoohyeon hears her favorite voice over the line. "Hello, yes?"
"Hi," Yoohyeon giggles at how desperate Minji sounds. "It's Yoohyeon. Can you come downstairs for a second?"
"I'm coming." Minji's voice is shaking and Yoohyeon puts her hands in her pocket, a blush rising to her cheeks just by the mere thought of being able to make Minji a trembling mess over the intercom.
A new song starts just as Minji appears in the door and she steps outside, walking under the blinking streetlight where Yoohyeon is waiting for her.
"I found your iPod in the pocket and I thought you might be looking for it so I brought it over." Yoohyeon surprises herself with how collected she sounds, when on the inside she is crumbling and she can't stop staring at Minji's plump lips.
"You didn't have to!" Minji tries to sound natural, but there is obvious nervousness in her voice and panic in her eyes.
Yoohyeon hands her the device, but the earbuds are connected to it and it doesn't take too long for Minji to notice that one side is in Yoohyeon's ears.
"What are you listening to?" she asks with a small and nervous smile, and if it's not for Yoohyeon paying attention to every single detail, she wouldn't even notice the slight blush rising to her cheeks.
Instead of answering, Yoohyeon takes the other end and puts it in Minji's ear, really hoping that the song playing right now can only be found on the playlist that has her name as the title.
She takes it as a yes when Minji buries her head in her hands, as the melody of Yours by Raiden and Chanyeol fill her ears.
"Yootoniiiii," she whines, the usually chick and confident Minji nowhere to be found, and Yoohyeon pulls her hands away from her face, linking them around her own waist and grabbing Minji's face with her own hands.
"You're so silly." Yoohyeon giggles with that smile that could blind the sun and Minji prays this isn't a dream right now because if it is she never wants to wake up. "Nobody has ever done this for me, but as far as I am concerned people usually confess with playlists like this."
"I am more of a pussy than you think I am." Minji mimics Yoohyeon's facial expression once she realizes this situation isn't going to be awkward as she thought it would be.
"For how long have you had this playlist?" Yoohyeon asks quietly as she inches closer to Minji, tilting her head with her question.
"Way too long, I suppose." Minji answers with the same tone, holding Yoohyeon close with her hands on her waist, flushing their bodies together before she closes the gap between themselves, bringing Yoohyeon into a sweet but passionate kiss.
Yoohyeon swears she is seeing stars even behind closed eyes, because for so long she had been dreaming about this moment as she was laying in her bed, all alone in the middle of the night.
Minji, still thinking it must be a dream, tries to make the best out of it while she can, because finally Yoohyeon is here in her arms, and the playlist she made for her dream girl finally found the recipient.
The kiss ends when both of them need to catch their breath, and they just stare at each other under the blinking streetlight, neither of them believing what just happened.
"Yootoni," Minji starts with the softest whisper the younger girl has ever heard in her life, and she nods with shining eyes, encouraging Minji to continue. "Even though I'm pretty sure you already realized, I wanted to tell you that I like you. A lot to be honest. And I'd be the happiest person ever if you...you'd be my girlfriend?"
Girlfriend. The mere word makes Yoohyeon's breath hitch, because the hottest, prettiest and most amazing person the earth has ever carried on its back is asking her to be her girlfriend right now.
She gives Minji a good scare when she doesn't reply for long seconds, but they both soon erupt in soft giggles and laughter when Yoohyeon sings along to the song playing in both of their ears in her flawless english. "I'll be yours, I'll be yours baby."
Minji can't help but pull her into another kiss, not only because she's incredibly happy about the reply, but also because Yoohyeon unintentionally called her baby, which made her blush insanely.
"It's getting late." Minji mumbles between desperate kisses. "And cold."
"But I don't want to go." Yoohyeon pouts, not knowing it's one of the weak points of Minji, melting her whenever Yoohyeon looks at her like a lost puppy.
"Well," Minji pulls her even closer and turns a little, pointing at the door of the building. "You're more than welcomed."
She giggles against Yoohyeon's lips when the younger girl just kisses her as a silent answer.
Yoohyeon makes sure to shoot a "Staying at Minji's tonight, I will spill the tea tomorrow ;)" to her group chat with Bora and Siyeon before walking with Minji to her apartment hand in hand.
