Chapter Text

“the phantom thief has been wreaking havoc over japan for the last month. he has last been spotted at-” tsukasa flipped to another channel before looking at his brother.

“i can’t believe they still haven’t caught the phantom thief! it’s like they’re stealing at the speed of light…” amane didn’t respond, still washing the dishes. then suddenly tsukasa looked worried….?

“it’s kind of dangerous how your new job is dangerously close to these heists.” amane finally turned his head around.

“well, i wouldn’t want to work farther away from you. and besides….they pay very well.” tsukasa had a slight blank stare but turned around towards the tv despite the fact he barely understood his reasoning, while amane turned back around as well.

“are you gonna be alright going to work today, amane?” amane sighed heavily. he knew he would be alright, he knew exactly why he would be alright.

“yes, of course tsukasa.” he faked a chuckle before he went back to cleaning. as the tv chattered away, he felt an uncomfortable sense of guilt.

a sense of guilt he first he felt one month ago. a sense of guilt he had been living with.

not only did the tv talk, his inner voice was talking too. it was all too much eating away at him.

he tried to find one moment where his thoughts could just disappear.

his fingers were shaking violently, how could he keep up this…..this stupid lie.

suddenly he heard a loud shattering sound.

amane looked down to see a broken dish.

now he had brought attention to himself.

tsukasa looked back at him once again. “amane, you’re really bad at lying. what’s going on?”

amane quickly walked over to the broom to sweep up the mess. “i just……” he blanked.

“i just spaced out, i’m fine tsukasa.” he came up with a lousy excuse, while emptying the dustpan of the broken plate.

throwing it away was almost……relieving. he sighed once again before turning to wash the dishes again.

then everything went back to how it was. it was all fine.

amane thought he was lucky that everything fell into place. sure, his life and job weren’t normal, but it was all he could do.

he knew what he had gotten himself into. there was no justifying it, he knew and regretted it.

once he became the phantom thief, once he agreed, there was no turning back.
