Roier and Jaiden knew this day was coming. They had dreaded it. They never wanted this day to arrive. So when it did come, they were miserable. Roier had made his way to Jaiden's house through the way-stones. The warping had left him nauseous. He knocked softly on the door, fixing his hair. Jaiden slowly opened the door, her cheeks were wet. Roier hated seeing her this way.
"Jaiden, we have to go." Roier spoke softly as she nodded. Jaiden shut the door and let out a deep sigh. She followed Roier as he led her to the funeral.
-----
When they arrived, the first thing they saw wasn't all the guests looking over at the two, not all the beautiful decorations that laced the room, but Bobby's lifeless body in his white coffin. Jaiden felt tears in her eyes, she felt pathetic as she leaned on the doorframe and cried silently. Roier sighed and took her hand, leading them to their seats. He looked at the coffin and tears filled his eyes. His pride and joy, was packed into a beautiful white coffin that would later be thrown into the ground. He looked down to the ground, he couldn't face his son anymore. As the funeral went on, it was the parents turn to speak. Roier went up first, giving time for Jaiden to calm down.
Roier cleared his throat and let out a soft breath. "Hola, My name is Roier. If you didn't know." He looked down at the microphone and then back at the crowd. "Bobby was..a fun and creative kid. But he was un niño bien chingon," Roier smiled softly as he received a few chuckles. "He was the best son I could've asked for and more. He gave me a reason to get up every morning, so I could see that wide smile, so I could hear him ask, "Apa, donde iremos hoy?". And I would give anything to hear him ask that one last time. Bobby once told me and Jaiden something that broke my heart, he told us that if he ever died. To remember him through the sunset. To not forget him. So we won't, he's done so much for me and Jaiden. So I don't think we will forget him...In his life he had many friends and people that love him, I hope he knows that, and I also hope that Bobby knows his parents love him so much. Too much honestly. So, to end this. I wanted to tell Bobby this one last time." He turned to look at the coffin, "Bobby, eres un niño increíble, por favor nunca dejes de ser un niño chingon. Te amo." As Roier ended his small speech, people began to clap softly.
He walked back to his seat slowly. Jaiden got up with a sniffle and walked towards the podium. She gave her own little speech, with a little bit of crying in the middle, she finished her speech and walked back to Roier. He held out his arms to embrace her, which she happily reciprocated the gesture. They held each other as others went up to share their own speeches. Once everything was ready, they brought Bobby's coffin outside. As Roier and Jaiden looked at Bobby one last time, they looked at his face one last time. Jaiden broke down crying. Roier put his arm around her and let out a deep sigh. They buried Bobby and it was over. The funeral was over, everyone went up to the two to give their condolences or their 'I'm sorry for your loss'. Roier thanked everyone as they left.
"You should head home, get some rest..please." Roier patted her shoulder. She nodded and warped away. Roier stood there silently. He didn't know what to do now. So, with nothing to do he went home.
----
He opened the door slowly and walked towards the fridge. He pulled out a beer and grabbed a can opener, then walked back to the front of his house. He sat on the front steps and opened the beer. He took a small sip and cringed as he swallowed. It felt like acid, and he enjoyed it. He took another sip and shut his eyes. He took a minute to really think about everything. The wind swayed softly against Roier, the sky was cloudy and he took a deep breath. It was quiet. Until he heard footsteps approaching him. He opened his eyes and looked up to a familiar Brazilian. Cellbit's face held a small smile which had Roier practically melting at the sight.
"Can I sit with you?" Roier nodded and watched as Cellbit sat on the steps with him. He took another swig and turned to look at Cellbit. He offered the bottle and the Brazilian took it. He watched as Cellbit took a sip of it without any emotion. Roier smiled at him. Cellbit looked over to Roier and smiled back.
"So, how are you feeling?" Cellbit placed the bottle down next to his feet and then held Roier's hand. Roier just shrugged as Cellbit used his other hand to touch the Mexican's knuckles.
"I feel..like I need a distraction." Roier muttered softly as he held his head with his hand.
Cellbit nodded and let go of Roier's hand. He stood up and dragged Roier up with him.
"Then let's go."
Cellbit led Roier to the Art Museum. He thought seeing some of the new art would be fun! But it just ended up with Roier's heart breaking even more. Then he brought him to the Favela to play around with Richas. But he was out of it and couldn't play. So Cellbit then led him to Chico Malo's Pizzeria. They greeted Bad and sat at a table. The smell of greasy pizza made Roier feel sick. Cellbit looked at the Mexican confused.
"Are you not hungry?" Roier shook his head. Cellbit sighed and took Roier's hands. "Okay then we can leave" Cellbit smiled and they left.
----
After exploring almost half the island and having no luck, the sun had begun to set. Cellbit ran out of ideas of where to go. They ended up going back to Roier's house and sat back on the steps. Roier looked out to the sunset and took a deep breath. Cellbit looked over at Roier. He sat there admiring him, the way his hair swayed with the wind, the little red slits under his eyes, everything about him was perfect to Cellbit's eyes.
"Sorry." Cellbit mumbled softly. Roier turned to look at him, he was confused.
"For what?"
Cellbit looked to the ground, slightly disappointed in himself.
"For not helping you get a distraction, you know? I wanted to help you stop thinking about what happened because I could see how it was hurting you. But I didn't." Cellbit held his hands together and looked over at the Mexican. Roier chuckled softly.
The Mexican turned his body and took Cellbit's hands into his. Cellbit's cold hands fell perfectly into Roier's warm hands. The golden light coming from the sky hit the pair on the steps.
"Cellbit you don't have to be sorry. You did good," Roier squeezed Cellbit's hands. "Yes, I am still sad because of Bobby. But you tried you're best to help me today...and it was honestly very sweet." Roier smiled and Cellbit nodded. Roier moved closer.
They stared into each others eyes deeply. Cellbit moved closer to Roier.
"So..do you feel better now? Or do you still need something to distract you..?" Cellbit squeezed the other's hands softly.
Roier hesitated for a second. "..Yes." He moved closer. "Can I..um kiss you? Or would that be weird?" Cellbit's eyes went wide and he grinned brightly. He nodded softly. They leaned in. Roier couldn't believe this was finally happening. And as the golden blue sky began to part the world, their lips met. And it was like fireworks had exploded inside off Roier's chest. They sat there for a few more seconds before Cellbit pulled away with a wide grin. Roier already missed the soft feeling of the Brazilian's lips. They embraced each other and Roier couldn't feel any happier.
"Did that help?"
Roier chuckled softly.
"Yes, It did."
They sat there hugging for a while. The sun had set and it was now dark. The lights of Roier's porch had began to light up and illuminate the area. They let go of each other. Cellbit stood up and grabbed a warping stone and looked over at Roier. Roier stood up and smiled at Cellbit. Cellbit leaned in and softly kissed Roier's cheek. After saying his goodbyes he warped away. Roier stood there at his front steps. He was a smiling mess as he entered his house. The cold house was comforting to him, he laid down on the couch and felt a wave of tiredness hit him. As the Mexican began to drift to sleep. The sound of the fridge buzzing was the only thing that could be heard. That day was a day he would remember for a long time...
