Chapter Text

Lena continued to stare at the form in front of her. She was supposed to submit it hours ago, but she had doubts about it now. She sighed as she went to turn on the fan. The summer heat was starting to get to her. She stared at the screen again frustrated that she couldn’t make a decision. She took several deep breaths and decided to focus on another subject she had been putting off: work. There were several projects that needed her approval. One was to approve the location of the new children’s hospital they were building. Another was to open a store location for their tech, and the other was to finish the process of making their company completely green by adding solar powered roofs to all their buildings. She looked through all three files and became even more frustrated. She hated not knowing what decision to make. She slammed the top of the laptop down. She placed her head in her hands and screamed.

After a minute, she felt hands on her shoulders and felt a kiss on the top of her head.

“Is everything okay?” asked Kara softly.

Lena looked up and saw Kara above her. Her bright blue eyes were staring at her with concern.

Lena sighed and said, “I didn’t mean to scream. I am just annoyed that I can’t seem to make a decision recently.”

Kara started rubbing Lena’s shoulders which caused her to relax into her. She started to feel the stress of the day start to drift away.

After a couple of minutes, Kara asked, “Did you want to talk about why you are so worked up?”

Lena didn’t want to talk in particular, but she knew if she didn’t, the shoulder rubs would stop, and she didn’t want that to happen.

“Work has been stressful. I have three projects at work that I’m not able to make any decisions on.”

“Is that all?”

“Yes, why would there be anything else?” asked Lena with a nervous laugh.

“Well, I got a call from Principal Grey. She was wondering why we haven’t submitted the skip grade forms for the girls.”

Lena sighed as the stress started to creep back up her spine.

Lena looked up at Kara with sad eyes and a pout, “Don’t be mad, but…”

“You are having second thoughts,” mused Kara.

Lena looked down in embarrassment and said, “How do you know me so well?”

“It would be kind of bad if I didn’t after all this time,” chuckled Kara.

Lena softly hit Kara, smiled, and said, “Don’t make fun. I’m serious.”

“Okay. Okay. I know that having Liza going to the 7th grade and Alexa in the 8th grade can seem daunting…”

“My babies are only ten,” sniffed Lena.

“They are ten, but they are not being challenged in the current grades they are in now.”

“Maybe we can have them do self study instead while…”

“That is not going to work,” sighed Kara.

“Why not?” pouted Lena.

“Do you remember why we even started the process of transferring them to different grades?”

“The other students were jealous of their brilliance,” Lena scoffed.

“Lena…”

“What? It is true.”

“That is not the whole story. The girls were a distraction in class. Liza would take out a book and headphones and listen to music while she read.”

“At least she wasn’t bothering the other children.”

“And then there was Alexa. She had built a mini stove into her desk and recorded herself making meals and desserts.”

“It showed ingenuity.”

“It caused the class to want to participate in what the girls were doing instead of following the teacher’s instruction. The girls are so far ahead that the teachers don’t have any other assignments that they could give them.”

“There has to be another compromise instead of pushing them up from the fourth grade,” pouted Lena.

“They both tested at the 10th grade level on all of their subjects. What we have right now is the compromise. They at least will be with people that they know. Billy will be in the same grade as Alexa and Zatanna will be in the same grade as Liza.”

Lena sighed in defeat.

“I just want what’s best for the girls,’ Lena muttered.

Kara embraces her, kisses her on the check, and says, “We both do. Which is why I submitted the forms 15 minutes ago.”

“What!”

“This is something that we had agreed to do over a month ago.”

“But, there are so many more factors to consider.”

Kara sighed and said, “You can’t keep doubting yourself. Ever since we have been trying to get pregnant again, you have doubted every decision you make…”

Lena winced and said, “Don’t.”

Kara pulled up a chair and turned Lena towards her so that they were at eye level.

She took Lena’s hand into hers and said, “You have completely shut down since then. Why won’t you let me in.”

“Because it hurts too much,” sobbed Lena.

Streams of tears start to roll down her face. Kara hugs her tightly and kisses her forehead.

Kara rocks them back and forth until Lena said softly, “I failed us both.”

“You didn’t fail us.”

Lena shook her head and said, “But it is my fault that we can’t get pregnant.”

“Oh, Lena…”

“No, but it is true. I made a miscalculation when creating the birth control I was using. Instead of wearing off after 20 days of non use, it may take 10-20 years before it wears off.”

“Well, at least you were able to brand the drug’s effectiveness for those that don’t want to get surgery to prevent pregnancy.”

“Don’t put a positive spin on this. You told me that you wanted at least a dozen children. I failed us both.”

Kara turned Lena’s face up so that she was looking right at her. Lena nearly gasped with how stern Kara’s eyes looked towards her.

“I want you to hear me when I say this. You did not fail us. I love you and the girls and couldn’t be happier. We don’t need any more kids to make our family complete.”

“But you said…”

“I was exaggerating when I said I wanted a dozen kids. I am honestly happy with what we have. Nothing will change my mind about it.”

“Really?” mumbled Lena.

Kara smiled and said, “Really.”

Lena softly chuckles as she wiped her eyes.

“I don’t know what I did to deserve someone who doesn’t run for the hill screaming with all my drama.”

Kara chuckles and said, “It goes both ways honey. I'm lucky you haven’t run away with all my Supergirl stuff.”

Lena slapped Kara softly and chuckled, “Me? Never!”

“I am glad to see you got your sense of humor back.”

“I try to do what I can,” laughs Lena.

“Well, since you are in a better mood now, I do have a favor to request.”

Lena kissed Kara on the cheek and said, “For you, anything.”

Lena kisses start to drift down Kara’s neck which causes her to moan. Kara softly pushes Lena back.

“Hey!” Lena pouts.

“Normally, I am all for this, but we have an entourage waiting for us outside.”

“What? Did something happen?” asked Lena, frowning.

Kara chuckled and said, “No, nothing like that. I just have a little trip planned for us and the others are waiting.”

“What others?” asked Lena hesitantly.

“Don’t look like that. It is just the girls, your mom, Alex, and Kelly.”

“You got my mom involved in this too?”

“Why do you look so surprised?”

“I know that you and my mom have been more civil to each other in recent years, but a several day trip with each other…”

“I have you know that your mom and I have been getting along just fine,” scoffed Kara.

“Okay,” said Lena sarcastically.

“It’s true!”

“Fine. Fine. I believe you. Even if I want to go on this trip, I have so much to take care of with L-Corp.”

“Don’t worry. Your mother handled everything.”

“What does that mean?” asked Lena hesitantly.

“We figured that you would use work as an excuse so your mom roped Sam in to cover for you for the next several days.”

“But there are things that need approval…”

“You can’t use that as an excuse either. We checked and nothing needs approval for a couple of weeks.”

Lena pouted and said, “I can’t believe you and my mom conspired against me.”

Kara chuckled and said, “Well, you have always said you wanted us to get along.”

Lena chuckled. Kara and her mom had come a long way from hating each other to now being all buddy buddy. She is surprised she had missed this new development. She kissed Kara check and led her out of the office.

“Are you going to tell me where we are going?”

“It’s a surprise,” said Kara with a mischievous smile.

“I’ll just ask the girls,” mused Lena.

“No one knows where we are going except for Lillian.”

“Why does she get to know?” pouted Lena.

“Because she wouldn’t help unless I told her. Said that she is not putting in all this work if the place we are going is just crap.”

Lena chuckled and said, “That definitely sounds like her.”

“I promise you that you will enjoy your time there.”

“What makes you so confident?’ smirked Lena.

“I have my ways,” smirked Kara.

“Can you at least give me a hint so that I can pack?”

“That is already done. The only thing I would suggest you do before we leave is to go to the bathroom. It is going to be a long drive.”

Lena gave Kara a quizzical look as she headed to the bathroom. Kara was usually never this mysterious about plans, but if there was anyone that she was willing to walk into the unknown with, it was her.
